Rewriting My Fate in the Apocalypse-Chapter 70: Keep the Secret Well
Chapter 70: Chapter 70: Keep the Secret Well
Once Leng Pan was out of earshot, Lu Zhen’s smile turned stern and looked down at his brother, "Okay, out with it. What is it that has been happening to you since yesterday?" He asked with a serious expression.
Lu Tao was surprised. When he heard Lu Zhen ask Leng Pan to leave first so that he could talk to her, he had suspected that his actions had sold him out.
But he didn’t expect that his brother had already noticed him since yesterday! He thought he had been discreet with his scrutinizing, but as it turned out, everything was in his brother’s view.
He thought about making something up but before he could think of anything, his brother spoke.
"Don’t think about dropping a simple lie and think I’ll believe you. Tell me the truth."
Seeing that he couldn’t lie to his brother, he chose to tell the truth. He was curious about what was added into that water anyway and why it was so effective in relieving fatigue and restoring superpower energy.
Thus, he was very straightforward.
"What did my sister-in-law add to the water in the dispenser yesterday?" Lu Tao asked without all at once and held his breath. ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
He wondered whether his brother would answer him or just beat him up for being nosy.
Lu Zhen was actually surprised that Lu Tao knew about this issue. He must have seen Leng Pan when she added the spiritual spring water into the dispenser the previous day and she hadn’t noticed him.
Lu Zhen was also amazed by Lu Tao’s ability to keep it together at his age. Even though he had given away some clues as he kept sneaking glances at him and Leng Pan, he had resisted the urge to ask out of curiosity.
"So, you noticed it yesterday. Why didn’t you ask when she added something to the drinking water? Why wait until today?" Lu Zhen asked a question first instead of answering.
He wanted to know what his brother was thinking about something so secretive.
"I thought that since you did something as absurd as going to the kitchen to talk to uncle, you must be trying to distract him.
The only reason you would do that is because you knew about what your sister-in-law was doing, which means that whatever she was adding in the dispenser was not harmful.
Therefore, even though she was doing it in secret, it wouldn’t harm anyone in our family. Of course, you also wouldn’t do anything that has no meaning or benefits, so whatever was added in the water must be useful to us.
I still didn’t know what it was so I decided to test it myself before the others did. I drank a glass of water from the dispenser and noticed that the energy I had exhausted after practicing my superpower had been restored.
What is more, the fatigue from working out that morning, and the sore muscles were appeased. I didn’t know what it was but I had experienced the same thing that morning after drinking the orange juice my sister-in-law gave to me.
I realized that she had added the same thing that was in the juice into the water. I was happy of course. That was something that could help my superpower, but I was still curious about what it was and where it came from." Lu Tao said all that was in his mind in one go without waiting for Lu Zhen to question him further.
He knew that being honest could get him some lighter punishment. In fact, he was overthinking things. Why would Lu Zhen punish him just because he witnessed something that was supposed to be kept secret?
It’s not like he planned it. It was just an accident. Moreover, the fact that he had found out and still kept it to himself without telling another person showed that he was clever enough to understand that the secret couldn’t be spread.
"You did well not to tell anyone else. You have experienced the benefits of the water mixed with that substance. Therefore, you understand its value.
It is the apocalypse now and in no time, supplies and food are going to get scarce. People will fight and probably kill just for a bite of food. What do you think they would do if they discovered that our family had something so magical?" Lu Zhen didn’t reprimand him as he expected or try to beat him up.
Instead, he talked to him with logic about the real situation they were in. Thinking about a world where people would fight each other to the death for a bite of food, he couldn’t help but shudder. Then, thinking about someone discovering how special their water was and trying to get what made the water so special.
He didn’t even want to imagine that scenario. He could guess what trouble his family would be in.
"I promise I will never tell anyone about this. I will also not give anyone outside of our family this water. No matter who they are." Lu Tao hurriedly promised once he thought of the consequences of such information leaking.
He didn’t even want to know where it came from anymore. What if some day his tongue slipped and he said something he shouldn’t? He couldn’t afford that, so he stopped his questions and squashed his curiosity.
"It’s good that you understand what could be said and what couldn’t. The reason we didn’t tell anyone about this is because we don’t want to give others a heavy burden of protecting such a huge secret that could bring upon the demise of our family.
Now that you know, you have to carry that burden as well. But I believe in you. I know that you would do whatever it takes to protect this family. So, I don’t have to worry about letting outsiders find out about this.
It is something beneficial to our family. Something that could make us stronger than others and give us an advantage.
So, keep the secret well."
