Chapter 142: Chapter 142: A Fierce Fight

Although Leng Pan was angry and wanted to eliminate that little zombie immediately, she still had her rationality left. She could tell that the zombie was different from others and maybe fighting with it for a while could act both as training and may help to uncover something more.

Thus, instead of using her mist to kill the zombie immediately, she looked at her husband who seemed to understand what she meant even without saying a word.

Leng Pan put down her crossbow and picked up the Tang sword her mother-in-law had been using. The next moment, she and her husband stood back-to-back again and put all the training they had undergone in the last two weeks to use.

Luckily, they understood that some circumstances might force them to suppress their superpowers and fight with physical weapons in close combat someday. Therefore, they had been training nonstop to fight zombies with cold weapons daily.

Now, that training was showing results in a real and serious battle. They had been training among themselves or when killing zombies, but the ones they usually deal with are completely brainless and only have one instinct; to kill.

Nevertheless, it looked like their opponent today was different. After all, that zombie boy could evade the arrows she had shot, which means that it had some level of intelligence. It didn’t matter whether the intelligence was low, but this sent a message to them. Zombies were evolving way faster than expected.

Both Leng Pan and Lu Zhen swung their swords with brute strength and with every swing, a head or two would roll.

While decapitating the zombies close to them, they also had to keep an eye on that small zombie and at the same time deflect the wind blades it was attacking them with.

The wind blades were sharp and if one was careless, they would have parts of their body missing. Sensing that they might eventually have to use their spiritual power, Lu Zhen decided to withdraw his fire ability and immediately Leng Pan covered him with a mist.

She was still afraid of her family finding out about some of the secrets she and her husband kept. Therefore, she didn’t let the mist touch Lu Zhen directly as it might end up healing his wounds that were just made. That would surely scare them.

It is not that she and Lu Zhen didn’t trust their family but because they wanted to protect them. That was why they were reluctant to tell them about the space and the meteorite.

Moreover, Leng Pan was worried that their family might not yet understand the viciousness of human nature and let the issue of having supplies in space slip. Even though she had not told them anything, Leng Pan didn’t plan to keep the secret forever.

She wanted the other family members to first experience what the real apocalypse was. She wanted them to witness relatives killing their kin for a mouldy bun. She wanted them to see friends turning against each other and killing each other for a pack of dry noodles. She wanted them to see a son cut off his mother’s leg to make soup because cannibalism was the only way to survive.

Once they see such things, she was sure that they would die before they utter a word about the space or the supplies in it to anyone. Because they would understand that the space and those supplies were the only things stopping them from becoming food for others.

Now, looking at how the small zombie was getting more and more excited and releasing even more wind blades to attack them, she knew that the day when humans would start to turn against each other wasn’t too far.

Leng Pan and Lu Zhen had been killing zombies for half an hour and were already ten meters from the small zombie.

Leng Pan had noticed that while they attacked the zombies while blocking the wind blades, they were slowly moving towards the small boy. But the boy didn’t move from his spot and was just moving his hands in gestures she couldn’t understand.

But, the faster the zombies’ hands moved, the faster and the more numerous the wind blades attacked them. At some point, they stayed in the same spot and even stopped killing the zombies around them just to focus on fending off the wind blades.

"Either that zombie is still not intelligent enough to understand that it will run out of spiritual power soon, or it has set a trap for us to go to it and has another way to attack us once trapped." Leng Pan commented while raising her sword with two hands to block a large wind blade that was about to fall on her head.

As the wind blade collided with the Tang sword, there was the sound of vibration and Leng Pan felt her wrist go numb. She had to admit that the strength with which that wind blade fell, if it were an ordinary person, they would have been cut into two.

Lu Zhen suddenly pulled Leng Pan to one side and at that moment, another wind blade passed behind her. It was a close call. If her husband hadn’t pulled her, and if she wasn’t protected by the mist barrier, she would have had her butt cleaved off. What a tragedy.

"It still doesn’t have the intelligence and cunningness to set up traps yet. It has not moved because it’s too focused on controlling its superpower and attacking us." Lu Zhen replies to his wife as he covers his Mao saber with fire and changes his method of attack.

He had to protect his wife and couldn’t indulge that zombie anymore. Moreover, their aim was to train and get a better understanding of their real skills in a more dangerous battle and they had already achieved that. There was no need to drag the fight out any longer when they weren’t gaining anything out of it.

"Let’s end this now." Lu Zhen suggested another zombie that came into contact with his Mao saber melted on the spot.
