Return of the King, Dominating the City-Chapter 1528 - 1513: A Needle Hidden in a Smile
Over ten minutes later.
Sam arrived at Ma ChunTian’s house.
When he saw only White Tiger alone in Ma ChunTian’s home, Sam immediately knew that something was wrong.
"Sam, sit down."
Ma ChunTian gave a smiling gesture for Sam to sit.
Sam’s face instantly changed, and his lips trembled slightly as he said, "Ma Sj... the people... where are they?"
"What people," Ma ChunTian asked.
"It’s... it’s the friends you mentioned, who... who do foreign trade." Sam’s face grew increasingly pale.
"Them? They’ve already left. Oh, not that I blame you, coming so late, but it’s fine, we can have a couple of drinks too, can’t we?" Ma ChunTian asked.
"Of... of course, Ma, Ma Sj, if you’re drinking, I surely have to join you." Sam said with a forced smile.
"That’s necessary, hahaha. Don’t be nervous, ah. You seem so tense, and it’s not like you haven’t been to my house, right? Though tonight might be the last time, don’t be so nervous about it." Ma ChunTian said.
"Last... last time here... Ma Sj, you... you really like to joke. I... I’ll be coming often in the future." Sam said, his voice trembling slightly.
"In the future, my place won’t be able to contain such a big presence as you. You’re going to do business with Wen Commerce Association’s head; how would I dare have you accompany me drinking?" Ma ChunTian said with a helpless shake of his head.
"Ah."
Sam reacted as if he’d been caught cheating by someone’s husband, his body trembling, then he looked at Ma ChunTian and exclaimed, "Ma Sj, no, absolutely not... I definitely don’t plan to do business with Wen Commerce Association’s head. You know, we Americans are the most straightforward in business, Ma Sj, I absolutely haven’t deceived you."
"Really?" Ma ChunTian asked suspiciously, "As foreign friends, I certainly believe what you say."
Seeing Ma ChunTian’s intention to believe him, Sam quickly said, "Of course it’s true, absolutely true, undeniably true. Ah, Ma Sj, you too, I was able to establish such a line in SH with the United States all thanks to your help, without you, what would I be? Right? How could I possibly do such a thing."
"But I heard from White Tiger that you seem to think I’ve given you too little, and it also seems like you two have been cooking the books, right?" Ma ChunTian asked.
"This..." Sam rolled his eyes and said, "Ma Sj, I was just saying things casually at the time, and actually, I was also probing White Tiger for you, really. In my opinion, since White Tiger is your partner, he shouldn’t hold anything back from you, so I tested him a bit, and he immediately told you, which proves that White Tiger is absolutely loyal to you."
Upon hearing these words, White Tiger was a bit surprised. He thought Sam would immediately turn against him, but unexpectedly, in such a circumstance where he’d clearly betrayed Sam, Sam was still speaking for him. Of course, Sam speaking for him was smart, at least it didn’t evoke negative feelings from him. Otherwise, if he decided not to spare Sam, Sam would truly be finished.
"Testing, is that what it was?" Ma ChunTian asked.
"That’s definitely how it was, Ma Sj. Why would I deceive you? We Americans have our pride, and we won’t deceive our friends, absolutely not." Sam said, patting his chest.
"Oh, it seems we’ve misunderstood you." Ma ChunTian’s face showed a embarrassed smile as he said, "Suspecting his partner, I’m... I’m truly sorry."
"Look at what you said, it’s nothing, just a little misunderstanding, that’s all, misunderstanding," Sam said with a smile.
"In that case, come, Sam, let’s have a few drinks." Ma ChunTian said, "It’s been a while since we’ve had a drink together."
"Well, since Ma Sj wants to drink, a couple of drinks won’t do. I should punish myself with a few more, for making Ma Sj worried." Sam said.
"Alright."
About an hour later.
Sam left Ma ChunTian’s house with a red face.
Sam left, feeling slightly drunk.
Meanwhile, inside Ma ChunTian’s house.
White Tiger was still drinking with Ma ChunTian.
"You know, people are really inclined to be blinded by greed."
Ma ChunTian said, squinting his eyes with a wine glass in hand, "Finding a good partner these days is really difficult."
"All things in the world are driven by profit."
White Tiger said with a laugh, "Ma Sj, you don’t need to worry too much about these things. If partnerships don’t work out, they can simply end."
"I won’t allow anyone who has betrayed me to live in this world." Ma ChunTian shook his head and said, "White Tiger, have your people take care of Sam, and do it cleanly, without causing problems for me."
White Tiger nodded with a smile and said, "No problem."
Sam left Ma ChunTian’s house, already slightly tipsy, feeling incredibly lucky for managing to stabilize Ma ChunTian under such circumstances. If it were anyone else, they’d have been scared witless by Ma ChunTian long ago. It was his cleverness; otherwise, he might have ended up having a fallout with Ma ChunTian, and SH was Ma ChunTian’s territory. If Ma ChunTian decided to make things difficult for him in the future, he would be in real trouble.
Thinking of this, Sam suddenly pondered why his cooperation with Wen Changlin was discovered so quickly, and when he connected it to White Tiger... Sam realized he must have been set up by White Tiger.
Of course, it doesn’t take much thinking to figure this out; anyone can see it.
"Damn, I was still thinking of finding him a financial path." Sam vented his frustration, spit on the ground, and directly walked out of the city committee courtyard.
Outside the courtyard, a taxi was passing by.
Sam raised his hand, flagging down the taxi.
The taxi stopped, Sam opened the back door, and got in.
"To XX Grand Hotel." Sam instructed.
"Okay."
The driver nodded and then started the car.
Sam sat in the back, burping from drinking.
To make Ma ChunTian happy and satisfied tonight, Sam drank recklessly. Although he could hold his liquor, the aftereffects of the spirits were now hitting him, causing his head to spin and his eyes to blur.
Sam squinted slightly, rested his head against the door, and after cursing White Tiger for a while, he closed his eyes and dozed off.
No idea how much time passed.
Sam felt the car slowly stop.
Sam straightened up and looked out the car window.
