Return of The Alpha Heiress-Chapter 63: Clarissa – Birthday
Edwin spoke with complete confidence, as if what he had done was perfectly justified.
I scoffed, looking at them the way one looks at a clown. "Luna, then who is it that doesn’t know how to appreciate anything here?"
My words made Luna Eileen flinch, guilt deepening on her face, while Edwin openly glared at me.
"Don’t act all holy, bitch!" Edwin snapped. "You go everywhere using the Green family name. Even if you didn’t use that allowance, you still benefited a lot just by being part of this family!"
Hearing Edwin’s words, Luna Eileen’s expression visibly softened.
Watching her reaction, I no longer felt anger or sadness. Only certainty.
Leaving this family was the best decision I could ever make.
I spoke calmly, "Luna, do you really believe Edwin? He secretly used that allowance without telling you, making you look like a cruel mother in my eyes."
"CLARISSA!" Edwin shouted furiously.
He immediately turned to Luna Eileen, clutching her hand as he pleaded, "Mother, you know what I’m like, right? It was just a small prank. I didn’t mean any harm. I just hate seeing that ungrateful thing acting so shamelessly."
It seemed Edwin had always used the phrase ’just a small prank’ to justify everything he did.
I stayed silent, waiting for Luna Eileen to take a stance. Even if she would never throw Edwin into the basement the way Alpha Will had done to me, this was far beyond a childish prank. He deserved punishment.
Seeing Luna Eileen hesitate, Edwin suddenly shouted, "Then I’ll run away from home! I won’t go to school anymore!"
He threw a tantrum like a seven-year-old who refused to wake up for school.
Childish.
But Edwin was long past the age where behavior like that was acceptable. Luna Eileen surely wouldn’t fall for it—
"Don’t say things like that, Edwin," Luna Eileen said in panic. "Alright, alright. Mother believes you."
She then turned to me with a guilty look. "Clarissa, please forgive your brother. After this, Mother will make sure the allow—"
Her words stopped when she saw me walking out of the dining room. I had no intention of listening anymore.
After hearing Larry’s story, I once thought Luna Eileen ignored him because she was too busy dealing with Edwin’s misbehavior.
Turns out, she simply didn’t care.
Edwin was her golden child. The one who filled the emptiness in her heart after losing her baby.
No wonder Edwin turned out like this.
This house was full of hypocrisy.
As I walked out of the dining room, I could still hear Luna Eileen calling after me, "Clarissa, where are you going?"
Edwin answered her casually, "Mother, don’t worry. She’s just sulking. She’ll come back later. She’s always like that, pretending to run away, then crawling back after a few hours because she can’t survive outside."
I smiled bitterly, realizing that the Alpha Green household was far more terrifying than I had thought. Neither Edwin nor Luna Eileen even knew that it was Alpha Will’s bodyguards who caught me every time I tried to escape.
Either they were too self-absorbed, or Alpha Will was a fox who worked in the shadows behind his own family’s backs.
Either way, this family was deeply twisted.
I walked out of the villa and got into the car.
Tony, the driver who worked for Larry, started the engine and drove away.
"The lodging is ready, Miss. It’s safe there. No one planted by Alpha Will," he said.
I nodded.
For the past week, Tony and I had been preparing my escape.
Tonight, I would stay at the inn, far away from the Alpha Green family drama. I also wouldn’t have to see Alpha Will, who might hit me again for whatever reason he could think of.
But tomorrow, I would still attend the birthday party.
Turning eighteen meant I could own property and make decisions under my own name, without a guardian.
However, I would still be registered as a member of the Green Pack. As long as I remained part of the pack, it would be difficult to truly break free.
While I was part of the Alpha Green family, the only way to join another pack was to get permission from the head of the family. In this case, Alpha Will.
There was another way, but it wasn’t possible for now. Marriage. After marriage, a woman would belong to her husband’s family, and the head of the household would become her father-in-law or husband.
But I would choose neither of those options.
I would sever family ties.
By doing so, I would become the head of my own family and gain the right to change packs.
Alpha Will cared deeply about his reputation. If I showed up tomorrow and forced a public severance in front of everyone, he would let me go.
Whether I had to cry, beg, or cause a scene like a madwoman, I would make sure that tomorrow, I would officially be free from that family.
Fueled by determination, the next day arrived.
I left behind the com-orb Luna Eileen had given me in the vila, and for the first time in a long while, I slept soundly. No disturbances at all.
The birthday event started at six in the evening, but I arrived at the peak hour. Eight o’clock at night.
Wearing a short-sleeved shirt, loose trousers, and a backpack over my shoulders, I arrived at the seaside venue.
As soon as I entered the hall, the guests recognized me. Their eyes scanned me from head to toe, filled with disdain.
"Isn’t that the Alpha and Luna’s adopted daughter? Why is she so late?"
"Is she trying to disgrace the Alpha family by dressing like that?"
"Look at that arrogant stare. She really has no shame."
Accompanied by sneers, I walked further inside until I saw the Alpha family on the stage. They looked happy, smiling like a perfect, harmonious family.
My gaze swept across the hall. The glass wall on the side revealed the ocean view. Tiny lights dotted the sea in the distance, likely ships glowing in the night.
On the left side stood elegant decorations. Simple, but beautiful. Flowers were arranged to form the words:
’Happy Birthday, Our Shannon’
So because I disappeared, they changed the name immediately? Arranging flowers like that clearly took more than a day. Alpha Will had never planned to celebrate my birthday.
Perhaps if I had stayed at the villa, he would have come, accused me of something, and locked me in a room.
I let out a bitter laugh.
I snapped out of my thoughts when two tall women in dresses, faces I recognized as the bodyguards who always caught me when I tried to escape, flanked me on both sides.
And then, from the stage, Alpha Will spoke with a furious expression.
"I do not wish to ruin Shannon’s birthday celebration, but this matter must be announced to all our honored guests."
"Starting today, the Alpha Green family officially severs all ties with the daughter we once adopted, Clarissa Green."
I froze, caught between shock, suspicion, and relief.
’Even if you didn’t do it, I was planning to.’
