Chapter 88: Chapter 88: He Loathed the Way She Looked at Him Like a Stranger

’She shouldn’t be this calm! She shouldn’t be this calm!’

’Weren’t you so sharp-tongued just now?!’

’Argue with me! Bully me! Come on, slap me, Annabelle Linton!’

"Annabelle..."

Annabelle Linton’s lips curved into a slight smile. "I never said you were stealing my credit. All those things in the past... you did them for him. I never did anything for him."

’She’d rather have never sacrificed anything for him. Let all those stupid things from the past be Vivian Yates’s doing.’

"Annabelle, you still won’t believe me..."

"Annabelle Linton, that’s enough!"

Vivian Yates was about to continue her act but was cut off by Leona Grant’s furious roar.

She glanced smugly at Annabelle Linton. ’It seems my little performance wasn’t for nothing.’

Leona Grant stared at Annabelle Linton, his face dark. His voice was practically a shout, jarringly out of place in the crowded hospital room.

The moment he spoke, the entire room fell silent.

’He’d been watching over her in the hospital day and night these past few days, almost forgetting about this whole matter.’

’Why had she done so much for him in the past but never told him?’

’Why, after sacrificing so much—even nearly her life—would she so nonchalantly give all the credit to someone else?!’

He wanted to ask her why, but his pride wouldn’t allow it. In the end, the words that came out were just her name and "that’s enough."

’This woman just kept ignoring him! After that one casual glance earlier, she hadn’t even looked his way!’

’He absolutely hated the way she looked at him like a stranger!’

Annabelle Linton shot him another cold glance, her lips twisting into a sarcastic sneer, and strode out of the room.

A flash of panic crossed Leona Grant’s eyes, and he hurried after her.

Back in Annabelle Linton’s hospital room, he saw maids packing her things. Annabelle was sitting on the edge of the bed, pale and clutching her chest.

It seemed the fall down the stairs had left lingering effects. The slightest exertion left her dizzy and breathless.

Leona Grant watched her with concern. "Are you checking out? The doctor said you need to rest for at least a month, or there will be permanent complications." 𝘧𝓇𝑒𝑒𝑤ℯ𝑏𝓃𝘰𝑣ℯ𝘭.𝘤ℴ𝘮

Annabelle Linton stood up, ignored him, and grabbed a set of clothes before heading into the bathroom to change.

Leona Grant pressed his lips together. He’d thought she was just going to the restroom, but seeing her take the clothes, he knew she hadn’t listened to a word he’d said.

"Come out!" Leona Grant pounded on the door, but there was no response.

Frowning, he kicked the door angrily a few times, but there was still no sound from Annabelle Linton.

Three minutes later, Annabelle Linton emerged. Leona Grant took a step forward, his voice tense. "Annabelle Linton, didn’t you hear me? I told you not to leave the hospital! You need to rest and take care of yourself!"

"I don’t need you here playing the good guy!"

"You’re my wife—at least for now! You should listen to me, and I have the right to take care of you!"

BAM—

Annabelle Linton kicked over the bedside table. Fruit, books, and other items went CLATTERING to the floor.

"What are you pretending for now? When all of them were about to take turns slapping me, where were you, my ’husband’? Every time I’m hurt and need comfort, where are you, my ’husband’?

"This isn’t the first time Mrs. Yates has acted like this! A moment ago, when she was calling me a vixen and a slut, where were you, my so-called legitimate husband? When I needed you to stand up for me, you played dumb. So why are you acting so righteous now?"

Annabelle Linton vented her anger, a sliver of old pain unexpectedly stirred within her heart. A tear slid from the corner of her eye.

She looked at Leona Grant, her vision blurring with tears.

’She was reminded of herself from her previous life.’
