Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 73: What Kind of Good Person Are You Playing Now?
Patrick Grant listened to Annabelle Linton’s words, looking at her in surprise.
The girl standing before him now had truly changed.
She used to be such a gentle and frail girl, always saying what others wanted to hear. She especially had no say in her own marriage.
But now, an inexplicable steeliness ran through every word she spoke.
On the surface, it sounded like she was trying to have a simple discussion. But hadn’t she thought through the consequences of every single sentence, backing him into a corner with her veiled insinuations?
What did she mean by ’while we can still discuss the divorce calmly and decide on our future relationship’?
What would happen if things weren’t calm?
Would everyone drop the pretense and scream at each other until they were red in the face?
Patrick Grant didn’t think Annabelle Linton was being unreasonable.
On the contrary, he felt gratified by the woman Annabelle had become. More than that, he admired her.
Just because he didn’t demand it didn’t mean the Young Madam of the Grant Family shouldn’t possess such courage and resourcefulness.
He was getting old. He couldn’t protect them for much longer. From now on, they would have to walk their own paths.
Patrick Grant mulled it over for a moment before speaking. "Annabelle, Grandpa remembers you were very fond of Leona when you were a child. You always said you wouldn’t marry anyone but him. Now that you’re married, you want a divorce. Is it because of Vivian Yates?"
Annabelle Linton shook her head. "My reasons for divorcing Leona Grant have nothing to do with anyone else, and no one is forcing me. I’ve just come to see things clearly. He doesn’t love me, and I don’t love him anymore. So, I see no reason for us to keep torturing each other."
After she finished, Annabelle Linton added, "If he truly likes Miss Yates, I have no objections. I also hope you’ll grant them your blessing, Grandpa. After all, he’s your only grandson, and Leona Grant has the right to pursue his own happiness."
Leona Grant, who was standing just outside the door, heard this, and his expression instantly darkened.
’So kind of her. Where was all this kindness before?’
’Two years ago, when he was fighting tooth and nail against this marriage, he didn’t hear a peep from her. What’s with this saintly act now?’
’She trapped him in this marriage, and now she’s telling him to pursue his own happiness? Even painstakingly trying to convince Grandpa to approve their divorce so he can be with Vivian Yates? Annabelle Linton, when did you become so damn magnanimous?’
’And another thing—only now that she doesn’t love him anymore does she realize being together is torture. When he didn’t love her, did she ever stop to consider that he couldn’t stand the sight of her?’
Hearing this, Roxanne Jennings let out an amused laugh.
"You’re still so young and impetuous, stubbornly clinging to the idea of love. Annabelle, your father and I also had an arranged marriage for business, with no feelings between us. Back then, Mom was still in love with an upperclassman from my school, but didn’t I end up marrying your father anyway?
But I never regretted it, because your father is a man worthy of my heart. The men of the Grant family have always been passionate, and it’s no exaggeration to say your husband is the same. You two might have grown tired of each other, or perhaps you have no feelings at all right now, but love can grow over time. Do you believe me? If you just try to get along, you’ll develop feelings for each other in less than three months.
And putting all that aside, think about it from a woman’s perspective. You’re the Young Madam of the Grant family, the most distinguished woman in all of Lynton. You have it all—wealth, status, and an exceptional husband. Everything you possess is something an ordinary woman couldn’t even dream of. Any children you have will be born with a silver spoon in their mouths. Once you have a child, your status as the mother will make your position completely unshakable. For Leona, you are a suitable wife. And for you—I can say this with absolute certainty—if you leave Leona, you will never find a better husband. Are you really prepared to give up such a dazzling future?"
