Remarriage Failed Again Today-Chapter 20: I Will Go to Work on Time Tomorrow
The light was so bright it illuminated every corner of the room.
Annabelle Linton’s things were gone from the vanity, making it look much emptier.
He looked at the spacious bedroom—the large bed, the huge wardrobe, the sofa, the computer...
Even though everything was arranged just as it had always been, he couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing...
A faint, elegant scent of orchid lingered in the room.
It was there, and yet it wasn’t.
Leona Grant frowned as he surveyed the bedroom he had lived in for years. A subtle, unprecedented sense of desolation bloomed deep within him.
He stood there for a long time with an indifferent expression before finally flipping the switch off again.
He went downstairs, got in his car, and left.
That night was exceptionally quiet. There was no one left to feel sorrow or regret over his departure.
...
The next day, Leona Grant didn’t come back.
The acquisition of the Linton Group was imminent, so Annabelle Linton had to hurry and review the basic facts, key players, and relevant documents.
Among the wealthy elite, fawning over the powerful and kicking those who were down were two sides of the same coin. Money was always the most direct way to secure relationships and status.
She still vividly remembered her past life, after the Linton Group was acquired, and the life of scorn she and Ryan had endured.
Annabelle Linton spent the entire morning in her room, poring over documents. 𝚏𝕣𝐞𝗲𝐰𝕖𝐛𝐧𝕠𝕧𝚎𝚕.𝐜𝚘𝗺
"KNOCK KNOCK—"
The door was knocked. Madam King came in holding a cordless phone. "Young Madam, the hospital called. Your leave ends tomorrow, and they’re asking if you’ll be returning to work. If you’re not feeling better, you can continue to rest..."
’Work...’
Annabelle Linton paused.
’How long has it been since I last heard that word?’
In her past life, ever since she’d fallen for Vivian Yates’s so-called advice that "Leona Grant doesn’t like his woman making a public spectacle of herself," she had never returned to the job she loved.
Because after quitting her job to be a good wife and mother, in Leona Grant’s eyes, she was just a useless freeloader with no ambition.
So, in a fit of anger, he had her blacklisted from the entire medical field.
From then on, she couldn’t find a job even if she wanted to.
In this life, she understood the importance of a woman’s independence. She had to rely on herself; she had to take her future into her own hands.
Seeing her daze, Madam King thought she was hesitating and advised, "Young Madam, I don’t think you’ve fully recovered yet. Why not rest at home for a few more days? Your health is the most important thing, after all..."
"That won’t be necessary!" Annabelle Linton interrupted Madam King excitedly, then quickly offered her a faint smile. "I’m fine now. Please tell them I’ll be at work on time tomorrow."
Madam King was taken aback for a moment as she looked at Annabelle Linton’s smile.
She realized that since the Young Madam had woken up, she was like a completely different person—cold and distant, especially toward the Young Master.
This was the first time she had smiled in the days since she’d woken up.
’It’s quite beautiful, though...’
"Alright."
With that, Madam King quickly relayed to the person on the other end of the line that Annabelle Linton would be back at work tomorrow.
As she was leaving, Madam King couldn’t help but say, "Young Madam, you have a beautiful smile."
Annabelle Linton responded with another faint smile.
’That’s right. A person has to smile. Even when life is disappointing, you have to smile for yourself.’
...
It was dark again by the time Leona Grant returned, just as Annabelle Linton was having dinner.
To him, this house was just a place to rest or grab a meal whenever he pleased.
In her past life, Annabelle Linton would always wait for him to come home for dinner, sadly keeping watch over the empty villa by herself. But every time, he would just grab what he needed with a cold, silent expression and leave. On a good day, he might sleep in another room, only to leave early the next morning.
