Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 378 - 376: None of the words I told you were false.
Yu Kexin knew prying money from the boss wouldn’t be easy.
She had been fantasizing about booking a luxury restaurant to really make him pay, which would serve him right for keeping the boss’s wife so well hidden all this time. A beautiful boss’s wife like that should be widely announced, to make those who had designs on him finally give up.
However, managing to squeeze a barbecue out of him was already a great victory, especially with so many people. It was so late now that even if they had booked a restaurant, the staff might not have had time to prepare for them.
A barbecue was a different story. As long as they prepared the ingredients themselves, it would be quick.
At this thought, Yu Kexin slapped her forehead. "Oh, right! I need to hurry and pass this message along, then have each floor send out a couple of representatives to prepare the venue and ingredients."
Although there were a lot of them, they still needed to give everyone time to prepare. After all, some people might still have urgent matters to attend to.
Yu Kexin went to the front desk to find Wu Xiaoya and told her the news.
"Why would Boss Xue suddenly treat everyone to a barbecue?" Wu Xiaoya asked curiously.
"The boss said we should fleece him as fast as we can, while he still has control of his own wallet."
"So that’s how it is. But why did you only manage to squeeze a barbecue out of him, and a self-service one at that?"
"It was the boss’s idea. Besides, I thought about it, and with so many of us, a barbecue is the most convenient and fastest option. It’s too late to pick another restaurant now."
Wu Xiaoya agreed that there really wasn’t enough time. "Getting him to pay for anything is a win. I even got my pay docked by the boss just to secure this barbecue."
Wu Xiaoya froze. "Wait, does that mean you’re the one paying for this?"
It was only then that Yu Kexin realized.
"You’re right. The boss said the cost of the barbecue would come out of my docked wages. Doesn’t that mean I’m the one paying, but he’s the one taking credit for treating everyone? What a damn capitalist."
But it was too late to do anything now that she knew she’d been tricked. She couldn’t exactly storm into the office and argue with Xue Yang.
"So, should we still tell everyone?"
"Of course, we have to! The money’s already been docked. It’d be an even bigger loss not to eat," Yu Kexin said indignantly.
"Okay."
Wu Xiaoya immediately sent a notification to every work group chat. She selected three people from each floor, telling them to wait on the ground floor, and then headed downstairs to organize everything.
Dejectedly, Yu Kexin returned to her desk and started pounding on the keyboard as if it were Xue Yang’s face.
When Xue Yang returned to his office, Lin Xi had just finished writing the day’s Chapter and sent it out.
"Finished writing?" Xue Yang asked.
"All done. I never expected so many people would like our novel."
Xue Yang sat down beside her. "I’m surprised too. It shows you have a real talent for this. You’re well-suited to be a novelist."
Lin Xi rested her head on Xue Yang’s shoulder. "I’m a long way from being a novelist. I just happened to write about a subject that people enjoy. Are you done with your work?"
Xue Yang gently pinched the back of her hand. "Tonight, the company is organizing a self-service barbecue. I am formally inviting you, as the boss’s wife, to attend this event. May I have the honor of Miss Lin Xi’s presence?"
Lin Xi was amused by Xue Yang’s serious expression. "A barbecue? You mean like the one we had during the New Year in Hui City?"
Although her trip to Hui City was short, Lin Xi had been incredibly happy there. She felt it was a wonderful place to live, and if she had the chance, she would love to go back.
"That wasn’t quite a barbecue, more like a rustic farmhouse meal, but they’re pretty similar. You’ll see tonight."
Lin Xi snuggled her head against his shoulder. "Okay."
Xue Yang took her hand again. "Come on, I’m taking you somewhere."
"Where are we going?"
"You’ll know when we get there."
Xue Yang stood up, pulling her gently toward the door.
The trip from the 33rd floor to the ground floor didn’t take long. Wu Xiaoya was in the lobby with a team, organizing tasks. When she saw Xue Yang and Lin Xi step out of the elevator, she had everyone quickly form two lines. They stood at attention, bowed deeply, and shouted in unison, "Greetings, Madam Boss! Greetings, Boss!"
The scene was like something straight out of a TV show.
Wu Xiaoya approached them. "Madam Boss, Boss, how was that? Was it loud enough for you?"
"For shouting that loudly, I’ll reward each of you with a big chicken leg," Xue Yang announced.
"Boss, we shouted so loud and we only get one chicken leg?"
"You can eat them until you’re full."
Wu Xiaoya pursed her lips. "Boss, you’re just trying to get us to fill up on chicken legs so we won’t eat anything else, aren’t you? So devious."
"Are you a mind reader? How did you guess?"
Seeing she was getting nowhere with Xue Yang, Wu Xiaoya turned to Lin Xi. "Madam Boss, you have to control the boss! He won’t let us eat!"
Lin Xi, with her arm linked through Xue Yang’s, blinked innocently and said, "He isn’t stopping you from eating."
"Fine, you two are always in sync. I can’t win against you."
Xue Yang held up his wrist and glanced at his watch. "Since you know you can’t win, you’d better hurry up and get ready. There are less than two hours until quitting time. If everything isn’t sorted out by then, I’ll dock each of you a chicken leg."
"Xue Yang, if you dock their chicken legs, can I have them?" Lin Xi chirped.
"Of course."
Having been subjected to their public display of affection, Wu Xiaoya pouted, then turned back to her duties. She shouted to the others, "Everyone heard that, right? If we don’t get this barbecue set up quickly, the boss isn’t going to let us eat!"
"Why didn’t you say anything when she said that about you?" Lin Xi asked Xue Yang curiously.
"It’s all in good fun. No one takes it to heart."
"Oh, I see."
Lin Xi had a flash of understanding. She felt as though she’d learned something new just from being around Xue Yang today.
"By the way, where are you taking me?"
"Do you remember me saying that once I had money, I’d give you a milk tea shop?"
Lin Xi said in surprise, "I thought you were joking."
Xue Yang looked at her earnestly. "I never joke about the things I say to you."
He led Lin Xi to the Gu Ming milk tea shop where they had gone on their first outing.
Back then, she was alone at Xue Yang’s home. She couldn’t even cook instant noodles and had to gnaw on the dry noodle cakes, going hungry for a whole day. After what felt like an eternity, Xue Yang finally came back, and the first thing he said was, "Why are you still here?"
"You actually remember saying that?"
Lin Xi pouted. "How could I forget? I was hungry, dizzy, and scared. I waited for so long for you to come back, and the first thing you did was try to kick me out."
The memory alone made her feel incredibly wronged.
"I thought I’d given you bus fare, so you would have left by the time I got back," Xue Yang explained. "I was planning to terminate the lease on the apartment once you’d gone home, but you didn’t leave."
"I know why you rented that apartment."
Xue Yang’s grip on her hand tightened. "Xiao Xi, I..."
"Why are you so nervous? I don’t mind. After all, you’re my boyfriend now, aren’t you?"
