Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 222 - 220: Agritainment
After getting out of the car, they realized the environment was even worse than they had imagined.
"Si Wen, I’m kind of regretting coming here," Guan Yutong said bluntly.
"It’s too late for regrets. Little Fairies, this way!"
Xue Yang led Lin Xi by the hand, following the rural retreat’s owner with Si Wen and the others close behind. As the owner led them forward, they gradually realized the place wasn’t as bad as they had first thought.
They came to a wooden bridge, about ten meters long, with red lanterns hanging from both sides. It created such a stirring atmosphere that for a moment, they felt as though they had stepped back into ancient times, perhaps to a Qixi Festival where one could revel, recite poetry, and match wits.
After a five-minute walk, a three-story Western-style house appeared before them. The first floor featured floor-to-ceiling glass windows, and the interior was brightly lit, revealing neatly arranged decor inside. A feeling suddenly washed over them, like finding a hidden village of willows and flowers just when all paths seemed lost.
Even though it was winter, the occasional chirp of insects could be heard. The evening breeze caressed them, carrying the unique, comforting scent of the countryside. Inside, the house lacked the polished professionalism of a five-star hotel, but the cozy warmth and sense of belonging it offered was overwhelming.
At that moment, only a single thought echoed in the minds of the seven Little Fairies.
This was worth it!
Guan Yutong, as if she had never seen the world before, found everything fresh and new.
"Boss, are we allowed to set off fireworks here?"
The owner of the rural retreat was a middle-aged man of about fifty. Perhaps due to years of exposure to the wind and sun, he looked more mature and weathered than others his age. No one would have guessed he was only in his early fifties.
"Yes, we have fireworks for sale. Just tell me what you want, and I’ll bring it over later," he replied.
"Bring us two boxes to start, one of every kind you have. Thank you."
"Alright."
The owner left after getting them settled in.
"So? Are the Little Fairies satisfied?" Xue Yang asked.
Si Wen and the others had just finished a tour of the house.
"This place is truly amazing."
"This is my first time somewhere like this. I wonder what it looks like in the daytime. It must be even more beautiful."
For Xue Yang, the place was just okay. But for these young ladies who had never experienced commoner life, it was a whole new world. Two days would be just enough to keep the novelty from wearing off. This was precisely why he had suggested coming to a rural retreat. Yancheng had countless five-star hotels, and they were all bored of them. Taking a different path was the right call.
Before long, the owner returned with two large boxes of fireworks.
"Fireworks can be dangerous, so I’ve left them for you outside. If you don’t finish them tonight, just leave them where they are. Please don’t bring them inside the house."
"Got it, thank you."
Xue Yang didn’t smoke and had no lighter, but fortunately, the owner had thoughtfully brought a few for them.
Xue Yang rummaged through the pile of fireworks and pulled out a bundle of wire-like sticks.
"These are Fairy Sticks. They’re really fun."
Si Wen and the others gathered around him.
"Are those the kind you posted in the group chat that time?"
Xue Yang nodded. "Yep."
Lin Xi’s eyes twinkled. "I want to try."
"Okay. It might be a little scary at first, but you’ll be fine as long as you don’t touch the burning part. Here, I’ll show you."
Xue Yang wrapped his arms around Lin Xi from behind, enclosing her completely. "Hold this."
"Okay." Lin Xi obediently grasped the Fairy Stick.
Xue Yang held her hand, which was clutching the Fairy Stick, and used his other hand to flick a lighter and set it ablaze.
Sparks immediately shot out in every direction.
Even though Lin Xi was mentally prepared, she jumped in fright. If Xue Yang hadn’t been holding her hand steady, the Fairy Stick would have already fallen from her grasp. He tightened his grip slightly and guided her wrist in a sweeping motion, instantly creating a beautiful, sparkling halo of fire.
What girl could resist such an enchanting sight? One by one, they all clamored for a turn.
"Xue Yang, hurry and light mine!"
"Me too, Xue Yang!"
"Don’t rush, one at a time," he said. "Be careful not to let the sparks touch your clothes. It would be a shame to burn such beautiful dresses."
At first, everyone was a bit clumsy, and their continuous shrieks filled the air. To an outsider, it would have sounded like something terrible was happening. But even though they were scared, the beautiful girls were determined to play. After trying it once, they weren’t nearly as frightened. The bolder ones, like Si Wen, even dared to light their own Fairy Sticks with a lighter.
As everyone played, Xue Yang felt a tug on his clothes. He looked down to see Lin Xi gazing up at him, her big eyes sparkling with anticipation. Her expression was simply too enticing. What really got to him was what she said next, her voice full of longing.
"Xue Yang, I want more!"
Xue Yang froze, his mind going completely blank.
"Xue Yang, more, please!"
"Wait here. I’ll go get more fireworks," he said, his voice a bit tight. "And don’t talk to me in that tone again."
Lin Xi blinked innocently. "Oh."
Xue Yang quickly returned with a small pack of Fairy Sticks. In addition to the wire ones, he also brought some with wooden handles. Both were Fairy Sticks, but the wire ones burned for a dozen or so seconds longer than the wooden ones.
"Take one, I’ll light it for you."
"Xue Yang, I’m scared. Play with me like you did before," she pleaded.
He fought the urge to roll his eyes. He knew perfectly well that Xiao Naimao had just had Si Wen light one for her while he was gone. He hadn’t seen any fear from her then.
"Please?~"
Sighing, Xue Yang enfolded Lin Xi in his arms once again. They held a single Fairy Stick together, and after lighting it, they watched it burn down to nothing.
It was like watching a moth fly into a flame. It knows it cannot survive the fire, yet it rushes in without a second thought.
When the Fairy Stick burned out, Lin Xi said, "Xue Yang, let’s go for a walk."
"Okay."
Si Wen and the others had the bodyguards help them set off the larger fireworks, while Xue Yang walked hand in hand with Lin Xi around the rural retreat.
The retreat was not small by any means. Besides the house they were staying in, there were several other buildings behind it, making it feel like a small scenic park. There was also a huge pond for fishing enthusiasts, which was where the others were now setting off fireworks by the water’s edge. Some customers came here specifically just to fish for the day. In short, it was an excellent place for leisure and recreation.
And also... a very suitable place for mischief.
Xue Yang and Lin Xi walked back to the wooden bridge they had crossed when they first arrived. In the middle of the bridge, a small pavilion jutted out over the water. They stood on the pavilion’s bench, gazing into the distance.
BANG.
BANG, BANG.
BANG, BANG, BANG.
Not far away, Si Wen and the others had begun launching the fireworks.
They soared into the air, painting the sky in brilliant light and illuminating the person standing beside him.
