Rejected by the Campus Belle, I Find My True Love-Chapter 22 Boys going out must protect themselves
"?"
Lin Xi was utterly confused.
"Oh, come on. You know, the thing guys use."
"?"
"It’s just..." Su Yu whispered into Lin Xi’s ear. Lin Xi’s face instantly turned bright red, and she frantically waved her hands, trying to explain.
"It’s not... we didn’t... Don’t get the wrong idea..."
I’m done for. There’s no way to explain this now.
"Seeing you act like this, you must not have brought any. You’re so careless. Luckily, I brought some. Here, take a pack."
After a moment’s thought, Su Yu took out another pack from her bag. "Your boyfriend is so intense, he probably needs two packs. Just don’t do it too many times; it’s not good for your health."
Lin Xi saw the large words printed on it: Ultra-Thin 001...
Her face flushed crimson once again, looking just like a thoroughly cooked shrimp. She could feel the scorching heat on her own cheeks.
"..."
SOB... I really want to cry.
"We really aren’t a couple, please believe me."
Su Yu just assumed she was being shy. She looked over at Xue Yang and said, "It looks like they’re almost done setting up. Let’s go over."
Su Yu took Lin Xi’s hand and led her back to where Xue Yang and Cheng Dong were.
It was past three in the morning by the time they finished setting up the new tent. The one from Cheng Dong was obviously better than Xue Yang’s; it even had a skylight. Lying inside, you could see the entire river of stars above.
"Thank you both so much," Cheng Dong said. "I’m a first-year student at Yanbei University. You should come visit our school when you have time."
"We’ll do that someday," Xue Yang replied.
"Well, we won’t disturb your rest then," Cheng Dong said. "Yu, let’s go."
Xue Yang and Lin Xi waved goodbye to Cheng Dong and Su Yu.
Before leaving, Su Yu didn’t forget to give Lin Xi a playful wink, as if to say, ’You have to be happy, girl.’
Lin Xi was petrified all over again.
Cheng Dong’s arm rested naturally around Su Yu. "Honey, I don’t have a place to stay now. Please take me in."
"You gave them your tent on purpose, didn’t you?"
"No, no, I just felt sorry for them. You wouldn’t have the heart to make me sleep outside tonight, would you?"
"Fine, you can sleep here. But keep your hands to yourself."
"I promise I won’t move an inch."
"..."
Lying back down in the tent, Lin Xi clutched the two packs Su Yu had given her, wondering how to get rid of them. They were out in the wild with no trash cans. If she just threw them away, she wouldn’t be able to get over the guilt of littering. Besides, if someone else saw them, wouldn’t that be even more mortifying...
She was so preoccupied that she didn’t even notice Xue Yang looking at her.
"What’s wrong?"
"Nothing! I’m fine. What could possibly be wrong with me? Don’t overthink things."
"I was just asking. Why such a big reaction?"
"Was that a big reaction? I don’t think so. It’s late, let’s just go to sleep!"
Lin Xi might as well have had "SOMETHING IS WRONG" tattooed on her forehead.
"..."
Watching her frantically turn her back to him and pretend to sleep, Xue Yang’s gaze fell upon her right hand. His instincts told him there was definitely something there.
Then, when Lin Xi wasn’t paying attention, Xue Yang suddenly pounced.
"AH—Xue Yang, what are you doing?"
"Let me see what you’re holding."
"AH—DON’T LOOK—"
Lin Xi shrieked, but it was too late. Xue Yang had already snatched the two packs from her hand.
It’s over... sob... sob...
"..."
Lin Xi covered her eyes, not daring to look at Xue Yang. "If I told you I wasn’t the one who brought these, would you believe me?"
Xue Yang glanced at the label. Ultra-Thin 001... His gaze deepened for a moment. "What do you think? I bring you out to watch the moon and the meteors, and you’re planning to sleep with me!"
Indeed, a boy has to protect himself when he’s out and about.
"No... it’s not what you think! Su Yu gave me these two packs! She thought we were a couple and told me I needed to protect myself, so... I didn’t know what to do with them, so I just held onto them."
"Do I look like I believe you?" Xue Yang coolly placed the two packs in his backpack. "Your intentions are too dangerous. It’s better if I hold onto these for safekeeping."
"..."
Waaah... Lin Xi was on the verge of tears. Xue Yang would definitely think she was some kind of lecherous girl with ill intentions toward him.
That’s not it, Xue Yang! Listen to my excuse... no, my explanation!
Xue Yang had already turned his back to her and lain down. "Sleep."
"..."
Around four or five in the morning, the same sounds from earlier broke the quiet of the night. Blearily, Lin Xi sat up and nudged Xue Yang. "Xue Yang, do you hear that? It sounds like ghostly wails and wolf howls. There aren’t actually wolves here, are there?"
"Mhm, there are wolves. If you don’t go back to sleep, the Big Bad Wolf will come and snatch you away to eat you."
Terrified, Lin Xi’s face went pale, and she quickly scrambled into Xue Yang’s arms. "That’s so scary! Xue Yang, let’s never stay overnight on a mountain again."
Xue Yang held her close, gently patting her back to comfort her. "I’m here. Don’t be afraid."
His comforting seemed to work. Lin Xi’s shivering subsided, and she gradually grew quiet, her breathing evening out.
Lin Xi fell asleep, but someone else couldn’t.
He opened his eyes and gazed at the starry sky above them. Their spot was directly facing the Milky Way, which looked like a luminescent, ivory ribbon stretching across the heavens.
He could almost picture the heartless Queen Mother of the West using a silver hairpin to separate the two star-crossed lovers. The Xue Yang of the past didn’t believe in such myths, but tonight, for some reason, he found himself believing.
Lovers who are forced apart must feel such terrible pain. I hope I never have to be separated from the one I love because of our parents.
When they woke up, it was almost noon. Most of the surrounding tents had already been taken down. Only a few remained scattered about, and their owners were also in the process of packing up. At a glance, Xue Yang and Lin Xi’s tent stood out conspicuously.
The ground in the distance was a complete mess, and you could even see some carelessly discarded "small umbrellas."
Xue Yang looked away just as a sleepy-eyed Lin Xi emerged from the tent. Seeing him, she awkwardly averted her gaze. "Why are people littering like that?"
"Yeah, they have no class."
"Xue Yang, what’s that thing over there? It looks like a balloon, but I don’t remember anyone playing with balloons last night."
Xue Yang followed her gaze to where a few of the "small umbrellas" lay on the ground. He gave a few light coughs. "Kids shouldn’t know too much. Let’s finish packing so we can head down the mountain."
"Oh."
They say going up the mountain is easy but coming down is hard. The ascent had taken them nearly three hours; the descent took almost four.
When they finally made it to the foot of the mountain and reached the spot where they had parked their bicycle, the area was empty.
"The bike is gone."
They scanned the entire area, but their little beat-up black bicycle was nowhere to be seen. All the other bikes that had been parked there were also gone, clearly stolen.
"What do we do now?"
