Rejected By My Mate, Now Mated To The Lycan King-Chapter 90
~ ROWAN
I saw fucking red.
Rage bubbled up inside of me, twisting my insides into something hot and angry. I’d known Henry was a bold mother fucker, after all, I had my own history with him. However, I didn’t think he was suicidal as well because that was the only explanation as to why he had his arms around my mate and his lips on hers.
A growl rumbled through my chest and I stalked forward but before I could even make it halfway across the room to them, a sound of pure indignation left Nyssa’s lips.
With both hands, she shoved him off hard, causing him to stumble back a few steps and I watched in shock as she slapped him hard across the cheek, the sound echoing through the otherwise quiet room.
Behind me, Aria snickered and I couldn’t help but smile as well.
Nyssa’s chest was heaving with harsh breaths and a red mark bloomed on Henry’s cheek from where she hit him. His jaw ticked in annoyance, but he didn’t look deterred.
Fascinating.
"Are you insane?" Nyssa hissed out, venom coating her words. "What the fuck is your problem? How dare you?"
"Nys, come on, it’s me."
He took a step towards her but she stepped out of his way. "I know exactly who the fuck you are! If you touch me I will fucking hit you again."
His lips pursed, his frustration bleeding through the façade he put on, but he managed to keep it locked down.
I could have stepped in, but I was more curious to see the game he was playing. Nyssa also seemed to be handling herself well enough and I couldn’t imagine that she’d want me to get involved unless it got to be too much.
"Look, I know I made some mistakes, but I know the truth now. I know you weren’t involved in the rogues. Someone else was trying to frame you. I was just trying to protect my pack, surely you understand that. You love the pack too. We can put it all behind us and be a couple again—"
"You must be fucking delusional," she snapped. "I’m glad you’ve figured out what I told you then, but you can fuck off. I am not interested in having Alisa’s sloppy leftovers. You agreed to mate with her, didn’t you?"
He sighed deeply, running a hand down his face. "Look, I get it, but I made a deal with her father. He helped with the rogues as long as I mate with her. I don’t love her, I love you. You can be my mistress."
Of all the things he’d said, that pissed me off the most.
Nyssa was not the kind of woman to be sidelines to being a mistress. She was beautiful and brilliant with a streak of fire inside of her that lit me up from the inside every damn time.
Henry reached out for her once more so I decided to step in then. "Get your hands off my mate."
He froze, his hand mere inches from her wrist, his eyes landing on mine. His gaze held nothing but hatred and disdain but I ignored him and made my way to my mate.
I reached out for her, curling a hand around her hip and pulling her to me. She didn’t protest, merely stuck by my side, her eyes watching me intently.
I turned my attention back to Henry, pinning him with a blank stare. "I don’t know what game you thought you would play upon arriving here, but I have indulged you long enough. Get the fuck out of my palace, now."
He set his jaw stubbornly, his hands crossed over his chest in defiance. "Not without her."
I chuckled darkly. "I don’t think I was clear the last time, I was not asking. You will leave my palace, and if you try to touch or contact my mate again, I will ensure that you regret it for the rest of your miserable life. Do you understand me?"
His face turned a splotchy shade of red, the vein at his forehead pulsing with anger and frustration. He turned to Nyssa, eyes pleading with her to say something but she wouldn’t even meet his eyes.
"He’s not a good man, Nys," Henry whispered, shooting me a glare. "He has done despicable things."
"You are not a saint either, Henry," she answered back, her tone soft. "I don’t want to go back with you. I’m done with that pack. Please leave."
"I am giving you what you always wanted."
"The key word there is wanted... past tense. I don’t want it anymore, Henry. Yes, there was a time I would have dropped to my knees thanking the goddess that you chose me again, but I’m not that girl anymore. Even though you didn’t apologize, I forgive you for thinking me cruel enough to attack the pack. Please leave."
He just stood there in shock, mouth agape as he stared at her like she was a stranger he didn’t recognize.
Mixed feelings of relief and pride settled in my chest at the way she conducted herself. I’d be lying if I said a part of me did not worry earlier that she would go back to him... that she would want him.
If that happened... I shook my head, not wanting to think about it.
"He has you in his traps, doesn’t he? I mean look at you, you’re dressed like a—"
A warning growl left me. "Careful how you finish that sentence."
He ignored me but was smart enough not to finish. "I will prove to you that I am the better man. Mark my words, Nyssa, I will show you—"
I fought the urge to roll my eyes, suddenly bored of his whining.
Aria must have thought the same thing because within a minute, she was walking into the throne room, three guards trailing behind her.
The guards grabbed Henry by his arms and began hauling him out of the room. He fought against their holds but they didn’t release him. I watched as they disappeared back through the doors.
His voice carried down the hall, screaming promises to my mate who just stood there, unmoving.
"He will be sent out of the pack," I assured her. "He will not bother—"
"What did he mean when he said that you were not a good person?"
