Rejected: A love story-Chapter 63: Romantic dinner
Nathan’s car pulled up right in front of the school gate, I recognized it immediately.
Normally Nathan would come out but he didn’t, the door opened from inside. I slowed down before getting in, already scanning the back seat.
"Good afternoon, Miss Fiona," the driver said politely as he came down.
"Good afternoon," I replied, sliding in. "Where’s Nathan?"
The driver closed the door and walked around to his seat before answering. "Mr. Keith asked me to pick you up today."
"That wasn’t my question," I said, not harshly though, I was just having a bad moment due to Ella avoiding to hang put with me.
He smiled a little in the rearview mirror. "He’s caught up with work."
I leaned back, crossing my arms. Nathan never sent someone else unless he really had to. Even when he was busy, he liked being the one to come. He liked opening the door.
"Did he say anything?" I asked.
"He said you’d understand."
I scoffed softly. "Of course he did."
The car pulled away slowly and I watched the school disappear behind us, I pulled my phone out, half-expecting a message from him. But there was nothing not even a missed call or text.
I sighed and dropped the phone on my lap, turning my head toward the window. The city moved past us in a blur. Shops, traffic lights, people crossing the road.
After a while, something felt... off.
I frowned slightly and sat up straighter, paying attention now. We’d passed the usual junction, the one that led straight home.
"Um," I said slowly. "We missed the turn."
"Yes, ma’am."
I tilted my head. "You missed the turn."
He glanced at me through the mirror. "We’re not going home."
"Why?" He paused. Just long enough to be annoying.
"Mr. Keith asked me to take you somewhere else."
I narrowed my eyes. "Somewhere else where?"
A faint smile appeared on his face. "He said it’s a surprise."
I groaned, leaning back again. "I hate surprises."
The driver chuckled. "He said you’d say that too."
"Is he there?" I asked.
"Yes."
I relaxed slightly, resting my head against the window. I caught myself fixing my hair, checking my reflection in the window, suddenly nervous for no reason at all.
"What if I’m underdressed?" I muttered.
The driver heard me. "Mr. Keith said you’d look perfect regardless."
I slowly looked away, avoiding any interaction with the driver.
The car slowed eventually, turning into a quiet driveway. I sat up properly now as the car stopped.
The driver stepped out and opened my door. "We’re here, Miss Fiona."
I got down slowly, my eyes taking everything in. It wasn’t a big crowded place, just a calm, elegant building with warm lights and soft music drifting faintly through the air.
The driver gestured toward the entrance. "Mr. Nathan is waiting inside ma’am."
I slowly nodded and walked in, my heart already beating faster. The place was quiet, intimate, a few occupied tables here and there.
Nathan stood just a few steps away, holding a small bouquet of white flowers in one hand and a neatly wrapped box in the other. His eyes locked onto mine, and the smile that spread across his face made my heart beat faster. If this was a dream, I never want to wake up.
"There you are," he said softly.
His eyes were magical enough for me to forgot everything else.
"You look beautiful," he said softly.
I swallowed. "Thank you."
He reached for my hand, his thumb brushing over my knuckles. That simple touch sent me to heaven.
"Come," he said. "I’ve missed you all day."
I let him lead me to the table. He pulled the chair out for me, waited until I sat before taking his seat across from me.
"They’re beautiful." I said dropping them on my laps.
"They reminded me of you."
My cheeks warmed instantly.
"And this?" I asked, looking at the box.
"Open it later," he said. "After dinner."
A waiter came over.
"Have you made your choices sir? Madam?"
"Pick whatever you want," he said, sliding the menu toward me. "Don’t look at prices. I’ll be offended."
I laughed. "You’re ridiculous."
The menu looked kinda confusing, I didn’t even know what to order. Forgive me! I’ve never been on a fancy date before.
"Can you pick for me" I said lowly.
Nathan looked at me with a smile, then turned to the waiter.
"We’ll have everything on the menu please"
The waiter bowed and left.
I leaned in immediately. "Everything? Don’t you think that’s too much?"
"For you? You deserve the whole world cupcake. If you wanted the moon, I wouldn’t hesitate to bring it to you"
I shook my head. "You’re impossible." He only smiled.
"This is unnecessary," I said, trying to sound annoyed but failing. "You know that, right?"
"Cupcake, just enjoy the moment. I haven’t even started spoiling you yet...relax."
He reached out for my hand, his touch were fire!
"You’re the first and only woman, to make me feel alive. You... you made me see what love truly meant.." He smiled then continued.
"The first day I set my eyes on you, I knew I was inlove...I tried to push it away but I couldn’t..."
He paused, looking at me with a mischievous smirk.
"What?" I asked getting confused. Wasn’t he just confessing his feelings seconds ago. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
"The first day I approached you, you acted fierce and even said I was insane" he chuckled softly.
"I know it sounds stupid but, I fell inlove with you more. I just knew you were the one, I mean you have to. You’re so priceless and any man on earth would be a fool to loose you or let you go. I love you Fiona, now, always...and forever."
Before I could respond, some of the staff arrived.
"Tonight’s menu includes gazpacho soup, caprese salad, pan-seared scallops, filet mignon, and chocolate lava cake for dessert," they announce. Nathan smiles at me, and I couldn’t wait to dig in. The food smells amazing, and I’m famished already.
