Rejected: A love story-Chapter 13: Unexpected Kiss
Narrator’s Pov
Back at Fiona’s house, her father was sitting down lost in thought. He had searched half the city for his daughter, even argued with the police when they called off the search.
"She left on her own sir... and she’s an adult." Those words had been echoing in his mind, just then the door opened.
"Oh honey, Catherine and I stopped at the mall and got you something" Valerie said approaching him with some bags.
Duncan didn’t even look at the bags.
"Val, I don’t need anything right now."
"Oh honey, I know you’re sad because Fiona ran away, but it’s not your fault". She said pretending to be concerned.
"Of course it’s my fault, if I hadn’t been so hard on her she wouldn’t have ran off" He said and it was clear he was angry with himself.
Just then, Catherine also walked in. She sat near him like a deprived poppy.
"It’s like you don’t love me anymore, dad. Ever since Fiona left, you barely look at me. Maybe it’s my fault she ran away... maybe I should punish myself" 𝗳𝗿𝐞𝕖𝘄𝗲𝕓𝗻𝚘𝚟𝕖𝐥.𝚌𝕠𝕞
Duncan quickly hugged her, what do you know? Mother and daughters are such great actors.
"Oh sweetheart, don’t say that. You know I love you and Fiona equally. I just wanted to see Fiona and talk things out as a family" He explained placing a kiss on her forehead. Valerie adjusted her dress, she wanted to find a way for him to hate and forget about that little brat.
"Honey...she started coaxing her voice
"Have you heard any news from the old lady she stayed with"?
"No... nothing " he replied as if drifting into space.
"Well... maybe she left with a man. Remember I told you she stayed late after classes? I suspected she was with someone, but she kept denying it." She smiled inside knowing her lie timing was perfect.
"Fiona? Run off with a guy? She wouldn’t... her mother never raised her like that" Duncan said not wanting to believe it.
"Well, daddy it’s true. Fiona often skipped classes but she threatened me not to say a word. I was so scared" Catherine quickly added hugging him like a scared poppy.
Duncan couldn’t believe his ears, He looked crushed — the picture of a father who might be losing faith in his child.
As soon as the meeting ended, Nathan told his E.A to take over in his absence and only call him if he was really needed. He returned back to Fiona and they both left his office. He smiled as he led Fiona out of the office building, his hand casually placed on her waist. Of course he told her it was for public show. "Where are we going?" Fiona asked, curiosity etched on her face.
"Just a quick errand," Nathan replied, his eyes fixed on her.
"You can’t very well be my fiancée without a phone, can you?"
Fiona’s eyes widened in surprise. "You’re getting me a phone?"
Nathan chuckled. "I am cupcake. I realized you needed it, i want to be able to check on you always"
Fiona’s expression softened, and for a moment, Nathan was taken aback by her beauty. "You’re spoiling me, Nathan."
Nathan’s heart skipped a beat at the sight of her smile. "I’m just making sure you’re equipped to handle our little arrangement," he said, trying to keep his tone casual.
Nathan and Fiona stepped out of his sleek black limousine and onto the sidewalk outside the luxury electronics store.
As they entered the store, the manager, a tall, built man with a warm smile, greeted them.
"Welcome, Mr. Nathan! It’s an honor to have you here today. How can we assist you?"
Nathan looked around, his eyes lingering on the glass display cases showcasing the latest high-end phones. "My fiancée needs a new phone," he replied.
"Show us what you have."
The manager nodded, his eyes lighting up with excitement. "Right this way, please. We’ve got a private viewing room set up for you. Our latest models are on display, including the exclusive Vertu Signature Diamond Edition."
Fiona’s eyes widened as she took in the opulent display. "Wow, these are beautiful,"
Nathan smiled, his eyes fixed on her. "Pick one, cupcake. Anything you want."
The manager presented them with a selection of high-end phones, each one more stunning than the last. Fiona didn’t know which one to pick. As she deliberated, a sales representative brought over a tray of champagne and canapés.
After a few minutes of deliberation, Fiona’s eyes landed on a sleek, gold Vertu phone. "I love this one," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
"I’m not sure how expensive it is though... Nathan how much"? She asked innocently.
Nathan knew where she was heading. "Wrap it up," he said, handing over his credit card.
The manager nodded, his smile growing wider. "Excellent choice, ma’am. I’ll get this prepared for you straight away." Fiona’s face lit up with happiness.
Nathan smiled, pleased with her reaction. "Happy?" he asked.
Fiona nodded, her eyes shining with happiness. "Very happy," she said and gave him an unexpected hug which surprised him but he liked it.
"I’ll just need to activate it for you madam.
The manager said and quickly took care of the paperwork and activation process. A few minutes later, Fiona’s phone was fully activated and ready to use.
The manager discreetly handed over the phone, and Nathan handed it to Fiona. "All yours, cupcake" he said, smiling.
Fiona’s eyes widened as if suddenly realising something. "Nathan, this is too much."
Nathan leaned in, lowering his voice. "I want you to have the best, Fiona. Besides, you’re my girlfriend afterall." He said with a wink.
Fiona raised an eyebrow, but Nathan could see the excitement in her eyes. She was going to enjoy this.

Nathan pulled over in his mansion driveway, the sun was setting already, casting a warm glow over the estate. Nathan turned off the engine and turned to Fiona, his eyes locked on hers.
"I had a great time today," he said with a smooth voice that made fiona’s heart skipped a beat as she met his gaze. "I did too," she replied, her voice barely above a whisper.
As Nathan leaned in, his face inches from hers, Fiona’s heart raced. She thought he was going to kiss her, and a part of her wanted him to. But instead, he reached for the phone in the center console and handed it to her. "Here’s your new phone. Make sure to charge it tonight."
Fiona took the phone, her fingers brushing against his. As she did, Nathan suddenly leaned back. Her eyes narrowed as she realized he wasn’t going to kiss her.
"Oh, is that all the phone was for?" she asked, clearly teasing him. "An excuse to get close to me?"
Nathan’s looked confused for a sec, but he saw through her teasing. "You wish," he said, with that same smooth voice. "You’re the one who’s been staring at my lips all day, thinking about kissing me."
Fiona’s eyes widened, and she scoffed. "I have not!"
Nathan chuckled, his eyes glinning with mischief. "You’re a terrible liar, Fiona. You brought it up, not me."
Fiona’s face turned pink as she realized she had walked into a trap. "Shut up," she muttered, trying to cover her embarrassment.
Nathan’s smile grew wider, and he leaned in. "You know, if you want to kiss me, all you have to do is ask."
Fiona’s eyes flashed with embarrassment, and she opened her mouth to retort, but Nathan didn’t give her the chance. He pressed his lips to hers, silencing her.
Fiona’s eyes widened in shock, and for a moment, she didn’t respond. She wanted to push him but she didn’t and as Nathan’s lips moved against hers, she melted into the kiss, her arms wrapping around his neck.
Nathan’s heart skipped a beat as he deepened the kiss, his tongue tracing the seam of her lips. He had wanted to kiss her since he met her, and now that he was, he didn’t want to stop.
But just as things were getting heated, he pulled back, a smile forming on his lips.
"See, you wanted to kiss me," he said with a smirk.
Fiona’s eyes were still closed, and she looked like she was about to faint. Nathan chuckled, feeling a sense of satisfaction.
He got out of the car, slammed the door, and walked around to Fiona’s side. He opened the door, his eyes locked on hers. "Coming cupcake?" he asked, knowing quite well she was still in shocked.
Fiona’s eyes snapped open, and she looked at him, her face still flushed. For a moment, Nathan thought she was going to slap him. But then, a small smile played on her lips, and she got out of the car.
"You’re going to pay for that," she said.
"Looking forward to it cupcake
