Reincarnated With the World Domination System-Chapter 23: Who’s looking down on me?
Chapter 23 - Who's looking down on me?
As soon as Rael stepped into the headquarters, he felt a powerful, heavy presence that rooted him to the floor.
It lasted only a moment, yet his heart pounded as he realized he had no chance against someone that powerful.
While it lasted only a second for him, it was different for Jayme.
The young adept stood frozen, his right hand trembling as he tried to raise it in a salute, but it was too difficult for an adept of his level.
A sudden whistle echoed across the headquarters, and a woman in a black-and-white futuristic bodysuit appeared in front of Jayme, slamming her fist into his stomach.
His suit and helmet cracked, shattering into shards that flew behind him in the shock wave.
Jayme staggered, clutched his stomach, and took a few steps back.
"Thank... you... for... going... easy... on... me... Ma'am..." Jayme uttered before dropping onto his back, sprawled and unconscious.
No one else moved or spoke.
As for Rael, he had turned his head toward Jayme just before the blow connected.
He didn't see the woman clearly, but he saw Jayme's suit explode into pieces that scattered under her strength.
You must be shitting me!
[As Lord Rael's servant, it is in my best interest to steer Lord Rael away from such explicit language, but this phrasing indeed describes Lord Rael's emotions the best.]
[E-Epic punch...]
Trembling, Rael stared at her with wide eyes.
He noticed her tight suit up close and might have admired her curves if she hadn't just sent Jayme flying.
It was exactly because of her brutal blow that Rael couldn't look anywhere but her sharp face, framed by thick blonde hair tied into a long ponytail.
Her crimson eyes met Rael's for a second before she smirked and turned to her adepts.
"Battlefield is dynamic. I don't blame you for siding with an unknown variable and teaming up with him to defeat your opponents and secure the objective. If anything, I commend Jayme for taking that chance and working with your new little friend."
So that's why she knocked him out cold, everyone except Rael thought, knowing Jayme would be overjoyed by her praise and ignore any scolding.
"But..." she continued, making the others break into a cold sweat, "after fighting the humanoid mosquito five times, the tactic you came up with was pathetic. Besides that, all of you lack the risk factor! None of you used the Limit Breaker until your new little friend stepped in! None of you ever considered using it first for the team because you're scared of your own performance!"
All five adepts lowered their heads.
In this virtual reality, no one died, but each commander had their own virtual world with distinct simulations and rankings.
Adepts competed to sharpen their teamwork and skills, aiming for rewards like weapons, suits, and enchantments, such as Prime Core, which enabled the Limit Breaker and was coveted by every soldier.
"You're dismissed for today. I'm considering putting all of you in different teams, so wait for the details," the commander said.
All five saluted and logged out, and Jayme's body disappeared a moment later, likely woken up by a teammate.
Rael suddenly realized he was alone with the commander.
She told him to follow her.

Only now did Rael take in the cube's interior, similar to his training room but furnished with enough sofas and chairs to accommodate over a hundred visitors.
On the way upstairs, he noticed a small arena with massive transparent screens near the ceiling, likely a room where the commander tested adept candidates.
Soon, he stepped into her office at the top of the cube, which featured even more screens displaying various adept battles, their statuses, and other classified data.
The commander sat at her desk, propped her legs at the ankles on its surface, and spoke.
"My name is Alexandra von Karmesinthal, a commander of the Central Continent's Liberation Army, formerly under the late Mr. Ainsworth. Now, I'm just a commander passing down his values to potential soldiers."
[You have learned to whom this virtual reality belongs!]
[You have finished your quest!]
[You have received 1000 EXP!]
Putting aside those system messages, Rael saluted as Jayme had and introduced himself.
"I'm Rael, Ma'am!"
"Copying Jayme won't help you," Alexandra said. "He's good at carrying out orders and following them, but he lacks the risk factor and a tactical mind. On the other hand, you dared to invade my virtual reality and approach my adepts. Where are you from? Earth? Another world? The Future Eden? Who's your backer? Who's looking down on me?"
Her crimson eyes seemed like those of a beast as she asked the last question.
Rael swallowed hard.
