Reincarnated With a SSS-Rank Hypnosis Skill in Another World-Chapter 40 - Late Night Discussion With the King
Three knocks on the door.
Loud ones.
It wasn’t Aria. It had to be someone else. There was no chance that my maid would be knocking on my door so loudly in the middle of the night. There was a good chance that it was someone from the King asking for me.
I pulled away from Elena’s embrace and told her to get back in bed and act as if she were sleeping.
I needed to make sure that our relationship stayed a secret from the King. Once I was inside the Academy, that would be fine. But that was definitely not the case for the moment. There were still a few days before my enrollment would begin and my role as a guard would commence.
I walked to the door and creaked it open, acting as if I had just woken up.
"Hello? What is happening?"
A maid whose name I did not know was standing there, looking extremely serious.
"The King has asked for your presence; please follow me right away."
"Should I change?" I asked her.
I was in pajamas. I wasn’t sure that the King would be too pleased with that. However, the maid shook her head.
"No. He wants to see you as quickly as possible. Your clothes do not matter at the moment."
I nodded and realized that this was how maids usually were. It was definitely a change of pace from Aria since the two of us knew each other so well. Our relationship was less... cold, to say the least.
It took a few minutes, but I finally reached the King’s throne room as I watched him rubbing his chin by the end of it.
There was a small hope that I would be receiving another reward from him since I had survived, but I could hardly believe it; he wouldn’t be granting access to the Royal Vault again.
I gave him a quick bow.
"You can straighten your back."
I nodded and looked him in the eyes, unsure of what was going on in his mind.
"You must be wondering why I asked for your presence so late at night?" he muttered as he indicated for everyone in the room to leave at once with his hands, leaving only the two of us.
"Yes, sir."
He softly smiled. "I had to say, you even had me fooled at first. I thought that maybe you had taken on a different path all of a sudden because of your new role. But... the more I think about it, the more I believe there is something else at play here. A greater force helping you."
I frowned, unsure of what to say.
I could tell that he was talking about my sudden change in personality since I had taken over this body. But why would he be discussing such things? It made little sense.
"You’re not saying anything?" he asked with a growing smile. "Well, no matter. I will be the one speaking."
"Back when you were getting healed and you were on the verge of dying, your soul was pulled out of this world and into another one. That’s when I observed that there was another soul within you, a dormant one."
My eyes widened for a split second, but that was enough time for the King to confirm his words.
"That’s when I knew that something strange was happening here. I’m not sure when you took control of this body or why. And honestly, I do not care. I think you’re a much better person than the one before you. However, what I really want to know is who healed you."
I frowned. ’Who healed me...’
I didn’t know if I could even tell him. It didn’t seem like a great idea, all things considered... it was honestly a little troubling to do so.
"You were on the verge of dying. Your soul was pulled away, and when you came back, it was as if nothing had ever happened. You were a new man without a single trace of the poison. So I will repeat my question: who healed you?" He clenched his jaw and his fists. "And don’t you dare lie to me."
I could see it in his eyes; he knew more than he let on about this whole thing.
It was just that I wasn’t sure if I could tell him about the existence of gods. I wasn’t sure if that would anger him. I didn’t want him to turn his back on me. He was my greatest source of power. I needed to keep him.
I made my decision.
Act like the King is a crazy person.
"All you said makes sense. Believe me, it does, but... that’s just not true. No one took control of this body. Maybe I have two souls, but I have no idea why. I don’t know where I was pulled or whatever that means. I swear I’m just as lost as you about this whole thing."
I expected the King to be confused, maybe annoyed.
But suddenly, he started laughing at me.
"HAHAHA!"
"I did believe that nonsense once in the past. Someone who said something similar to you before. But it won’t work this time."
"I know that the reason you are alive is because of a god. I don’t know which one or why he helped you, and I don’t care. I just want you to tell me how you contacted them. I want you to tell me how I can ask for their help. Tell me, and I will let you enter the Royal Vault once more."
I looked at him, unsure of what to say. "I... again, I don’t know what you’re talking about."
"I will give you everything you desire. I will even let you date my daughter if you tell me. I don’t care. Money, power, fame. I will help you achieve everything you desire—just tell me how."
The King looked absolutely crazy right now, consumed by greed.
But the truth was that I really had no idea. They were the ones who had contacted me.
"Trust me. It’s not that I don’t want to tell you. I just don’t know. They are the ones who contact me, not the other way around." 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
I looked at the King’s face, and it was no longer the easygoing person that I once knew. He was angry—very angry... and I had no idea what he would even try next.
