Chapter 38: Chapter 38 - Now or Never

[Blood Dagger]

[Grade: Epic]

[Description: Forged in silence beneath the ruins of a forgotten blood cult, this dagger feeds not on metal or magic—but on the blood of intention. Its edge never dulls, and its thirst is never quenched.]

[Effects]

[Superior Bloodbind (Passive): On a successful strike, the target is Bloodbound for 60 seconds.

While bound, Jake:

Can instantly sense their location, emotions, intent, and even future attacks.

Gains +20% damage against them and +15% evasion from them.

If the target dies while bound:

Jake regains 25% mana and 10% HP.

Cooldowns of all skills are reduced by 5 seconds.

Leaves a Blood Echo, a 10-second clone of the target’s combat style under Jake’s control.]

[Veinpiercer (Passive): When striking a target whose Loyalty to Jake is ≥50, the attack:

Ignores all defenses, resists, and immortality effects for 5 seconds.

Guarantees a critical hit with +200% crit damage.

Stuns the target for 2 seconds.

Applies "Soul Fracture," preventing healing or resurrection for 30 seconds.

If the target dies, Jake absorbs one of the following (random):

A portion of their combat knowledge.

A fragment of their soul (buff for next fight).

A permanent stat bonus (rare).]

The two skills had powered up like never before, especially Veinpiercer, which now allowed me to absorb strength from others. However, the only thing that was annoying about it was its clear restriction that only those with above 50 Loyalty could be affected by it.

It did mean that killing those close to me would be easy. But... they would normally be my allies; was there even a point to having this skill?

Maybe it would be useful if I were a cruel bastard who only thought of myself, manipulating everyone I knew. But... that wasn’t really the path I was hoping to take for the moment. Otherwise, I would have taken the God of Poison’s offer.

Still, while those two skills were already overpowered as they were, I even managed to get a new skill, which was on par with those two without a shadow of a doubt.

[Shadow Form (Active Skill): When activating this skill, you can hide in the shadows for 30 seconds. Your steps don’t make any noise. It is a very powerful skill that is perfect for sneaking up on your opponents. Use it wisely.]

[Cooldown: 3 Minutes]

As the description said, it was a perfect skill for infiltrating some highly restricted areas. It could even be useful when fighting at night or in a place with a lot of shadows. Though, that wouldn’t be the case in the arena since it was open to the sun, lighting up the whole place.

Though, with a powered-up Blood Dagger, who knows? Maybe I might be able to have a chance against my final opponents.

One could hope, right?

[Edward Vale’s POV]

I could hardly believe it.

The skills and talent that my son had shown to the world were absolutely incredible. The way he moved and fought, I’ve never seen him try so hard in my entire life.

It’s the most focused that I have ever seen him.

Did something happen within the Royal Castle?

Why is he suddenly trying?

Did his daughter really have an effect on him? Did he fall in love?

I kept having those questions pop up inside my mind, especially with the last skill that he used inside that cloud of poison. I could hardly see, but I felt it. That very skill was completely out of this world. The energy he used was so pure, it almost seemed otherworldly.

Maybe the King had been right. He might have been the right choice to protect his daughter.

The only problem is that my son has a lot of enemies.

Once he is inside the Royal Academy, many students will target him. His younger years were not simple to handle. He kept sneaking around with all kinds of women, and even his own brothers hate him to the core. They might even try something...

I shook my head.

I could only hope that he would manage to hold his own in there.

Still, I was happy that he had changed since he left.

I wasn’t sure, but that did not matter.

It looked like my son had finally gained a purpose in life.

I walked back toward Elena’s room. The sun had already set; I had definitely slept for a very long time, and my body needed a lot of healing. It was a good thing that the King had postponed my match. Otherwise, I would have been disqualified without a shadow of a doubt.

Still, I had the whole night to rest now.

I walked toward Elena’s room with a smile on my face, slowly opening the door.

Elena was right in my face, hugging me as tightly as possible.

I could hardly believe just how... physical she was around me now. I wasn’t sure if it was related to the memories that her hypnotized version had created, but it was definitely a nice change of pace.

"Y-You’re finally here~!" she exclaimed, clearly excited to see me.

Her arms wrapped around my neck, barely able to touch the floor because of the height difference.

"Are you fully healed up now?" she asked with a smile, as she wouldn’t let go of me even as I walked forward.

"Yes. I’m all healed up."

I smirked as I watched her.

If there was a time to seal the deal with Elena, the King’s daughter, it was right about now.

I looked dead into her eyes, extremely serious.

"You were cute earlier... did you really think that I would die?" I muttered in her ear, whispering.

I could see her become all red, embarrassed. But that was exactly what I was looking for.

"I-I was... just worried. T-That’s all."

I smirked as she struggled to speak.

"D-Did you really think that I... was cute?"

"Of course."

I wrapped my arms around her and pulled her even closer, my hands slowly going down her back, dangerously getting closer to her tight and round ass.
