Chapter 51: Ding!

"Did you figure out anything yet?"

"No, unfortunately."

Sitting beside Celestina after sleeping for 2 hours, I was examining her staff with all my focus, trying to understand anything about it.

The soul-bound artifacts were made completely of soul essence even though they looked otherwise, they weren’t just like souls, but literally part of them. I only knew this after seeing how Celestina’s soul density was decreasing everytime she summoned her artifact.

That was why they can never be destroyed and can always fix themselves, they were like soul injuries that only need to regenerate.

When an Exalted or a cultivators summon them, they come out of the soul as soul threads before gathering into their physical form, while what keeps them connected to the original soul is the part of the soul threads that stays spectral.

When someone dismisses their artifact, it simply dismantles into threads again and returns to the soul before merging with it.

Currently, I was thinking about my ability to make a part of my soul leave my body.

Wasn’t that the same as summoning soul artifact? The only differences were that I could control it, feel through it, and turn it into spectral form without returning to the body.

Before I awakened my trait it had been just an application for my affinity, so what if I could make a soul-bound artifact for myself?

I had the talent, the affinity, some soul threads and some materials that were related to the soul such as the bag and the Knights’ armors, I also had many souls that I captured, so all I needed was to figure out how to achieve that.

Returning to this moment, I kept touching and swinging Celestina’s staff while observing the threads that were connecting them.

The first step was figuring out how to either use the threads I had to connect my soul and will to an artifact, or simply make soul threads out of my own soul directly.

Of course, I wouldn’t try the second method, so I just decided to see if I could learn anything from observing.

But there was almost no progress.

For a moment, I had an urge to cut one of Celestina’s threads to see how it would return, but I decided against it. I didn’t want to risk her artifact — or even worse, her life — just to satisfy my curiosity.

Additionally, since my soul had become abyssal, my soul attacks started causing pain unlike before. And I definitely didn’t want to cause her pain.

After 3 hours, I turned my head to Celestina and called her: "Ms. Celestina, I’m done, and thank you."

She nodded to me as she took her staff back. "No problem. You can ask for it anytime."

For the next few hours, we kept talking while looking at the dark passage, until we suddenly heard a sound.

"Huaaah." Maxwell yawned like a bear as he sat upright.

Rubbing his eyes, his gaze suddenly fell on us.

He blinked twice, then narrowed his eyes before his eyes opened wide as if he finally recognized us. His lips curled into a stupid grin before waving to us. "Yo, good morning, or good evening? I don’t really remember but you know what I mean, right?"

"Y-yeah."

"It’s okay."

The next moment, he turned his head towards the sleeping — or the unconscious — Andrea.

"Andrea, wake up." Maxwell suddenly grabbed a stone from the ground and threw it directly on Andrea’s head.

Andrea woke up instantly while rubbing his head. "Who dares!"

"Andrea, I have a good feeling today. We are leaving this time, trust me."

"Shut the fuck up! I’m really tired of your stupid feeling."

"Come on, today is our lucky day!"

"We don’t even know the day!"

I watched them fighting again as I stood up and got ready to move.

We could only keep trying and hoping that we would find an exit. In the worst case, we would have to explore all paths until we find an exit.

After all, the maze wasn’t infinite, or At least that was what I hoped for.

Feeling Celestina gripping my hand, I watched her as she had turned off the barrier before moving forward.

And just like that, we continued our journey.

•••

"That fucking dead end that I hate!"

"That’s just... too much."

Covered in blood, Maxwell screamed from the depths of his throat, his voice filled with pure hatred, and Andrea hugged his knees on the ground while murmuring something to himself. ƒrēewebnoѵёl.cσm

And I... I just couldn’t understand.

There was no way we were moving in circles, because everything was new except the fact that we always found dead ends!

For a brief moment, I believed what Maxwell said about the maze being alive.

But maybe we were just... unlucky.

Like how each time I devoured a soul I ended up with a death memory, just pure bad luck.

We were ready to turn around and try another path, but suddenly—

*Ding!*

We heard a beautiful sound that was like a notification from the sky.

Hope, happiness, relief and many more emotions filled us once we heard the familiar notification sound.

It was truly, truly a perfect timing. Whatever we would get as a gift would help us either by making us stronger or helping us find a way out.

I wanted to rush to those gifts right now, but first, we had to secure ourselves.

"We need a barrier, quickly!" I shouted loudly, probably from the excitement, but I didn’t care at this point.

Celestina drew some runes on the ground, making her usual golden barrier to protect us.

Once she was done, I looked at the notification.

My eyes widened as I read the last note. It meant that we didn’t lose the opportunity of the last month!

With a wide smile on my face, I decided to read the messages first.

As usual, I ignored the eclipse monarch message because I hated him and the person with the random name, leaving only 1 message I had to ignore.

"Son of bitch! why more eggs?! Are you having fun seeing my suffering?!!"

I got distracted by Maxwell’s screams, which were justified at this point.

Like seriously, couldn’t his VIP viewer send him something different?

Ignoring him, I had thought for a moment before deciding to ignore the cat’s message.

Choosing the other 8 messages, I started reading the first one.
