Reincarnated as the Only Human-Chapter 960: Chat With The Madame
Chapter 960 - Chat With The Madame
The Madame stared at the tankards on the table for a few moments more before looking over towards Heather, making the other Aviankin shiver as those cold blue eyes landed on her properly, the Madame's full attention weighing down on her.
"I believe the policy I set was no drinking while still on the clock, correct? Or did I change it recently? I understand that I am old, Heather, but surely something as important as a policy change hasn't slipped my mind, correct?"
Immediately the Aviankin shook her head and said "No, the policy didn't change at all Madame!", though before she could continue on the Madame just said "Oh, then why are you drinking whilst still on the clock? Are you above the rules I have set, Heather?"
The instantaneous pressure applied to her by her boss made the Aviankin's eyes widen as she searched for a reason, only for Inik to cough as she said "Well... I kinda asked for the beer, Madame, so-"
"And? You are you, Heather is her own self. You can drink, she cannot. It is that simple."
The Madame cut Inik off and made the two Aviankin fall silent as they were scolded, leaving us in a tense quiet that was only disrupted when the Madame turned towards me and spoke again, her voice gentler than before.
"Would you mind accompanying me, dear? While Inik and Heather clean this up and finish closing the store, you can come and take a look at some of the dresses and jewelry we have for sale."
Getting back up, the Madame leaned on her staff and stared down at me, her other hand offered to help me up while her eyes remained locked on mine; taking her hand, I found the cold grasp of the older Elf to be somewhat soothing, albeit a little unnerving since she was supposed to be alive... and it didn't really feel like it.
"But I'm-"
Inik tried to argue against needing to help Heather with her work, only to be silenced as the Madame said "No arguing. You leave my service so quickly and without warning... you owe me.", causing my wife to slump her shoulders before nodding reluctantly.
Though she did speak up a moment later as she said "Madame, please don't try to-" only to be interrupted again as the Madame replied "I only do that which others agree to, so never blame me."
I understood damn well what they were talking about, and as I looked between the two I had to wonder if she was going to try and make a move on me after we left their company, and I had to wonder if I was against it...
With my hand still in hers, we left the store behind and walked through the hallway quietly at first, only for the older Elf to cough a few times before she asked "What made you pick someone like Inik? You seem to be a... learned girl, an elegant woman. Peculiar, smart, and definitely someone with a warm and noble aura, and yet..."
She made me chuckle as I finished for her, saying "And yet I chose the brash, rude and extremely arrogant Hawkkin to be the one I get into a relationship with? To chose to be my wife, to start a family with?"
"Yes, exactly. I am not saying Inik is unworthy of a beautiful woman such as yourself, but... she certainly wouldn't be the first one to come to mind if I had to guess who would become the wife of such a woman."
The Madame took on an aura that felt similar to Mama's, just a bit colder and more... 'dangerous' in how she spoke, especially since I knew what she was getting at in this conversation; as such, I gave her hand a squeeze and entered a new store with her, waiting for her to wave out all of the staff and staring up at her as I studied her appearance for a few moments more.
"Well, sometimes the best thing about someone is what you can't see. I happen to really enjoy the personality just as much as I enjoy her physicality. As for her being good to me, I can say that she will be, without a shadow of a doubt in my mind, so there is no need to worry."
"How lucky am I that I can hand off the troublesome, always arguing, never easy to deal with Hawkkin off to some responsible and beautiful Dark Elf? It is very reassuring, dear, far more than you imagine. I had thought she might die single at the rate she was going..."
"Now she'll live a life surrounded by many~ people, both from my own family and from the family we make for ourselves."
"Ah yes, speaking of..."
Now that we were alone, the Madame slowly lowered herself down and stared at my belly, causing me to raise a brow as I looked down at her and making me wonder what it was that she wanted, only to have her rest her head against my stomach and listen for anything.
At first I wanted to tell her that there was nothing to listen for, since the baby was barely grown, but she seemed adamant about this, and even as she gently ran her hands over my hips and closed her eyes I just let her be.
Mainly because it was somewhat arousing to see such a powerful woman on her knees for me, but also because it felt like this was a good way to secure her continued friendliness, which might come with some benefits.
When she turned her head back, muttered something beneath her breath and kissed my stomach, my brow arched even higher before she looked back up at me and asked "I am assuming that you are a... newer era Dark Elf, yes? Of mixed blood, presumably?"
There was no accusation or negativity in her voice as she asked that, so I nodded, getting one back as she added "That explains a few things... You're unmarked, and a female Dark Elf being unmarked is unheard of. Though... Dark Elves in general are rarely heard of nowadays. I was just curious... it means you can have any kind of child, not just a Dark Elf."
Seeing the question in my eyes, the Madame slowly rose back to her feet and loomed over me once more, that 'smile' of hers adorning her face as she just gestured for me to continue walking with her.
"Go ahead and peruse the dresses. If you like one, you can try it on; while you do, go ahead and ask away, dear. I am assuming one of your parents - the Dark Elf - doesn't know these things either, but... I know these things. So ask, though I ask if you might consider remaining within sight..?"
"You want to... watch me change?"
Hearing about my bloodline now took a backseat as I asked that, and her smile widened a little as she nodded, leaning on her staff once more as she said "Yes, I do. Inik isn't the only one with a fetish for Elves... I especially am found of your kind, and you being as beautiful as you are... Consider this payment for however many dresses you want, as well as some jewelry."
