Reincarnated as the fourth son of a noble and tamed an SS-rank dragon-Chapter 48: Intervention by the Merchants’ Guild
The slaves went with Kaly to buy clothes, Darius didn’t want to sit around waiting for them to change and after a few hours of choosing what they wanted to buy, he let Kaly decide how much she wanted to spend. San and Zenith went along, they also wanted new clothes.
He stayed in the mansion and used all his mana to make more potion bottles, which he had to take to the factory, as well as bottles and more metal for some weapons. Then he used the mana necklace and got some of it back, and with it, he generated some more flyers, which he would distribute to reinforce the tournament.
In a few days’ time, the selection of participants would take place. He did some math and took five days off to travel from the city furthest from the capital. He didn’t just stick to the cities of Velmont, so he knew that he could cause some confusion with another country because a nobleman wanted to hire the force of a foreigner.
Even if that wasn’t wrong, it wasn’t something to look forward to. Darius himself wasn’t so worried, he just wanted to improve his family’s personal army, since one day they would fight demons, he had already seen their strength up close, considering the possible upcoming attacks, he should increase the military power for his family’s protection.
"We need more knights and mages," Darius said at one point to his father. But Lucian disagreed and said that they needed to focus on their family image and improving their position.
The years went by and Lucian remained in the past, the other nobles were growing their armies every day and he remained with a tiny army.
Darius said: "Let’s have our army improved and stronger," Lucian accepted that he was wrong and let Darius take care of the situation.
Orphelia and Amanda didn’t like this, although they recognized Darius’ talent, this should be the job of the head of the family, not the fourth son. Which actually turned out to be the third son, since the first was disinherited.
But Darius accepted the mission without complaint, after all, it would be a way for him to show that he was better than his father.
The former army captain left and a woman came in. At first, Darius saw Julia as just any old mage, but gradually he saw her strength and her ability to make decisions and strategies, so it was only fair to ask for her help in the selection. Kaly, Elara, Lucian, and Darius decided which participants would join the four who went through to the final.
Lucian could pay for the services, but being able to pay and being willing are different things.
The purchase was made, and the expense was greater than Darius had anticipated, but to say that they could take advantage of it was a mistake on his part.
The slaves were paying attention to what Sandra was saying, but there was a problem, Darius hadn’t anticipated that they wouldn’t know how to do basic mathematical operations, which wasn’t unusual, since the literacy rate was low and many children never went to school. Neither did he, he learned at home, school taught other subjects, so it wasn’t unusual to read a book with a totally different grammar from another book. Since signs didn’t exist and there were words with different spellings.
It was relatively common for people to make up rules in their heads. Like signs to indicate a question or a statement. Even mathematical operations were different. There was no pattern to almost anything.
He wrote down on a notepad that he should teach them to read and do mathematical operations, but Kaly went ahead, used her technique, and managed to teach all three in a few seconds.
Darius had forgotten this, it had been a while since he had learned like this, at a certain point he had learned everything he had to learn from her, so gradually some things stopped being part of his routine.
Sales continued, but there were other vendors who were complaining, even more so because of the time of day, their sales had plummeted, and they didn’t know why. But seeing someone selling very cheap food was a sign that they should band together to put an end to the vendor.
Darius always followed one rule, to sell as cheaply as possible, but he wasn’t extreme, since the prices of potions could be much lower than the price of food.
But the idea of selling much cheaper than the competition was followed, for example, the sale of paper, 100 sheets of white paper were sold for 5 silver coins, and recycled paper cost only 5 copper coins. Although in his world recycled paper was a little more expensive, he based the price on the paper of that world, which was yellowish and thick.
Paper sellers charged at least 1 gold coin for 15 sheets of paper; the paper that poorer people bought was of much poorer quality and was still expensive.
Darius had an endless supply of paper, and all the wheat from the loaves made a profit for his family, as did the spices. He was able to sell for much lower prices because of how much he spent on each food item, he was rich, so he could take that risk.
The other sellers were people with less money and couldn’t lower their prices any further.
At the end of the day Darius was visited by the head of the merchants’ guild, whose name was spoken so quickly that Darius didn’t pay attention.
After a description of the expenses, the head of the Guild demanded that he show all the expenses the next day and until the Guild allowed him to sell, he was forbidden to sell the food. The other vendors began to celebrate.
Darius was furious, so he solved the problem with an agreement with the Adventurers’ Guild, he got permission to offer the food there and they could sell it there, as long as he bought the meat from the Guild’s monsters. The profit would decrease, but he could continue with his work.
He managed to solve the problem before the deadline the man had given, "what’s his name?" Darius kept thinking until he gave up.
He was feeling victorious, but he partly understood the side of the other vendors, but it wasn’t his fault, he didn’t even sell at the same time, he always chose at least an hour apart from the other stalls.
He wondered if someone else was behind it, the only one that came to mind was Baron Rodri, Darius didn’t think that this man had that much influence, but he could be wrong. So it wouldn’t hurt to investigate, and for that he thought of using the Guild’s investigative services, making Elara happier with more money coming in. Since she never finished paying for the demon bodies, the value was too high and the sale of the products was at a standstill.
In a way, too many demon parts products on the market would raise some unwanted curiosity. That’s why she sold them slowly and at prices that weren’t very attractive either. That’s why any inflow of money was considered desirable, especially considering the bankruptcy.
Back at the mansion, the slaves were looking for a sheet to sleep on, but Darius wouldn’t allow it. He used his teleportation magic and took them to the factory, which he hadn’t visited for a long time. He took the opportunity to deliver the potion bottles and introduced the team that lived there.
Nyme was frowning, she knew that Darius was using clones to kill the class, but she started to do the same.
Then he took the slaves to the bedroom floor.
"He keeps adding to the harem," Cayena.
"But I don’t judge, I’d be part of it, he’s a good catch," added Celene.
They both spoke louder than they should have, but Darius pretended not to hear and left it at that.
"He’s going to take the three of them to the bedroom, he’s got fiber," Zai said almost shouting. The slaves heard, but pretended not to, except for Deb, who was frightened. The other two were expecting sex and then to be thrown onto the cold floor.
But that wasn’t it, he took them to the bedroom and then showed them the bathroom.
"This is my room, but you can sleep in the bed and I apologize for only having one, tomorrow I’ll try to buy two more beds."
"Are we going to sleep in the bed?" Naph asked as she looked at the giant bed in front of her.
"Yes, I don’t use this room, so it’s yours, and don’t worry about anything, just make the bed when you wake up. Mess is never nice, but otherwise, feel free and use it as you like."
They stared at each other.
"We can’t pay for this and my sister won’t be able to have sex until she’s comfortable with the idea," Lilian seemed nervous about the situation.
"You don’t have to pay, I’m offering, after all, I promised I’d take care of you." 𝘧𝘳𝘦ℯ𝓌𝘦𝒷𝘯𝑜𝑣𝘦𝓁.𝒸𝘰𝓂
They began to cry, in all their lives they had never received any form of love, except from Darius.
He couldn’t understand this situation, so he stayed silent and let them cry, then tried to comfort them, but in the end, he wished them well and left. He wasn’t good in situations like this.
