Reincarnated As the Enemy's Wife: Married the Rival, Bound by Revenge-Chapter 285: Let’s Call It Eve
Eva’s heart melted at Nicholas’ words.
"Woof!"
The puppy flipped over and showed its belly, its head rubbing on her feet.
If the puppy could talk, it would say, "Let me keep you company! I’ll be good! Woof!"
"Alas, you guys... Does the puppy have a name?"
"Not yet. Do you have one in mind?"
Eva had no clue about naming the dog.
"Let’s Call It Eve," Nicholas suggested.
Eva couldn’t help rolling her eyes. "What are you insinuating?" said she.
Nicholas burst into laughter and then suggested again, "How about Bion? It’s a cute name."
Later, Eva adopted the puppy. She didn’t choose either of the two names Nicholas came up with, but decided to call it Haby.
The word "Habibi" in Arabic- language means "my love". Eva found the word cordial, but at the same time, it had been used too much in popular culture. So, in the end, she decided to name the puppy "Haby", which meant someone kind and loyal. It was a perfect name for a human’s best friend.
Haby, a three-month-old Pomeranian, was full of energy.
The weather had been pretty fine recently, and Eva often took Haby out to play in the garden of Nicholas’ villa.
Haby loved the garden. When the puppy ran around on the beautiful green lawn, its white fur was gently brushed by the soft breezes, shining in the dazzling sunlight.
After a few days together, Eva had fallen in love with her new pet. Recently, she found playing with the puppy even more fun than playing the piano.
And of course, Nicholas was taking good care of her. Not just for one night, he had been preparing meals for her himself for the past few days.
But today, he had some urgent matter to attend to in the company and had to leave.
After playing with the puppy on the lawn for a while, Eva heard her phone rang.
When she saw the phone number, her face turned pale.
May had complained to many reporters that Eva refused to answer her phone calls. But in fact, Eva didn’t even know her number. As a celebrity, she usually declined all the numbers that she couldn’t recognize. May had only called her a couple of times, and it wouldn’t be surprising if Eva had ignored those calls.
May called Eva ungrateful in front of all the media, causing Eva to suffer serious damage to her reputation.
Looking at the incoming phone call, Eva breathed a sigh as she hesitated to answer.
Until the call was going to be declined automatically, she finally picked up the phone.
"What’s the matter?" she said with an indifferent voice.
"Eva, I left with Ned first that night because you didn’t seem to be in a good mood. But we haven’t finished our talk yet... Do you have any plans today? Can Ned and I visit you?" May just wouldn’t let it go.
Blue veins stood out on Eva’s temples.
"I haven’t even married Nicholas yet, but she already wants to take advantage of me. This is Nicholas’ villa. As close as we are, I don’t want to bother him, but she doesn’t even mind," Eva thought to herself.
"Don’t even think about it. The security wouldn’t let you in," Eva said with great annoyance.
Being declined, May changed her attitude immediately. "Then how can I see you? Are you saying you are only willing to talk to me with the presence of media?"
Eva was infuriated. May just threatened her again. She was not scared of being blackmailed, but this mattered couldn’t be delayed any longer.
"You name a place, and I’ll come over. We must finish our talk today and I’ll never see you again."
After saying that, Eva hung up the phone in anger.
Eva left the puppy in the care of the butler and went to the place May had told her all by herself.
She was very cautious along the way.
Ever since Eva and Nicholas’ relationship was made public, she had been the subject of a myriad of trending news.
Even many of her former classmates sent her congratulations after knowing the news.
As for Hailey, who had never got along well with her, and Tina, her former mate at the orphanage, both had mixed feelings seeing the official announcement of their relationship.
To avoid the relentless paparazzi, Eva chose to spend her time with the puppy and hadn’t shown up in the public eye for days.
To avoid the prying eyes, Eva put on her "full armor" today. She also told May that she was going to meet them in their current residence instead of some public place.
May still hadn’t paid back Nicholas’ 300-thousand-dollar loan, and therefore was
living a lavish lifestyle.
When Eva arrived, she found that May and Ned were living in a pretty decent hotel in Hiltonan.
If one room cost about 100 dollars, two of them would spend 200 dollars a day.
They had been here for a while and their date of departure was yet to be determined. It appeared that they stayed for a purpose and refused to leave until they got what they wanted.
Eva had been working very hard and she earned much more than the Huff family, but she never spent her money in such a careless way. People around her were diligent and hard-working, and most of them never squandered. Life in a big city like Hiltonan was never easy and a lot of people were living on a strict budget. However, May and Ned, who had no means of living and relied totally on other’s charity, frittered away the money that didn’t belong to them in the first place. "They are truly heartless creatures!" she thought.
But Eva didn’t want to worry about their future. She went straight to the point. "How much more money do you want?"
"Eva, we’ve spent a lot of money on your sick brother, and your father took the rest of it to invest in his business, but it didn’t end up well ... We don’t want to put too much pressure on you. Nicholas is running such a big company and there must be many small departments under his management. Since he loves you a lot, it wouldn’t be difficult if you ask him to give your little brother a good position in the management team, like a manager or a deputy manager. Eva, will you help Ned?" said May.
Eva couldn’t believe what she just heard. May’s words were so shameless that they made her feel nauseated.
"A good position in the management team? Ned as a manager? How dare they ask for my help? They are simply shameless and greedy!" Eva thought to herself furiously and let out a mocking laugh.
"Madame, you’ve watched too much TV. Not everyone can become a manager. What can Ned do? Does he have any working experience? It took most people years of effort to make it to a management position. What makes you think you can give a person of no experience such an important job?" Eva said with a serious voice with her arms crossed over the chest.
May did understand what Eva was saying, but she refused to see how absurd and unfair her request was.
May didn’t say anything, but Ned wouldn’t give up so easily.
"Eva, what do you mean? You call me a person of no experience, and it’s true. But how can I have any experience if you don’t even give me a chance? Nicholas runs such a big company and you’re his woman. As your brother, I should be entitled to some privilege. If he truly loves you, he should help your family," said Ned.
"Indeed! As the elder sister, you not only refuse to help your own brother but also speak for other people," May echoed her son.
Their outrageous words really got on Eva’s nerves.
"It’s because of our mutual affection that I don’t want to bother him with your stupid mess! I’ll make it clear. You must pay back the 300 thousand dollars except for the medical expense. Here is 30 thousand. I’ve been putting my back into my work and this is all that I’ve saved over the years. I give it to you, to thank you for bringing me to this world, but that’s it. Take the money and we’ll stay strangers from now on."
After saying that, she left a small case of cash and left.
No one saw the tears in her eyes.
Soon, Nicholas knew about Eva’s meeting with May.
There was no need to guess what happened. May and Ned must have done something hateful again.
The assistant who informed Nicholas of the incident also mentioned that Eva seemed to be in a bad mood when she left.
Nicholas left the company and went back home immediately. 𝒻𝘳ℯℯ𝑤ℯ𝒷𝘯ℴ𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝑐ℴ𝑚
When his black luxury car stopped at the entrance of the villa, he saw Eva getting out of a taxi, her eyes still red.
Nicholas parked the car and walked over to her in silence.
