Reincarnated As the Enemy's Wife: Married the Rival, Bound by Revenge-Chapter 233: From the Rich to the Plutocrat
Zachary found Daniel’s reaction unexpected but reasonable.
It was unexpected because Zachary didn’t know the boy had learned his responsibility as the eldest brother. But at the same time, he had always known that Daniel was a precocious kid. Some people said the boy took it from his father.
Zachary couldn’t help thinking about his own brother. When they were still kids, he used to take care of Simon just like this.
"So?" asked Zachary.
Daniel said with determination, "In the future, I’ll stay honest, and I’ll do it better. I must make myself stronger if I want to take care of my brothers and sister."
Hearing his words, Zachary was so proud. "He has become such an outstanding kid," he thought.
Daniel was a top student at school, and his learning ability was far beyond that of his peers. This promising young boy mastered more than three languages and had great potential in the business world.
Angela had her own talent, while the other kids were still too young to tell. Jimmy appeared to possess the quality of a good soldier, but Andy and Tommy hadn’t shown anything special yet.
"Daniel, your mother and I have always been very proud of you. I believe you will set a good example for your brothers and sister."
Upon hearing Zachary’s words, Daniel’s eyes lit up instantly.
"Really?" asked Daniel with surprise, because he had never received such positive comments from his father.
"Yes."
Zachary rarely used direct compliments when educating his children, but this time, his praise was like a seed planted in Daniel’s mind. Decades later, when he became the famous prodigy, the rising economist, and the leader of the era, he still remembered what his father told him that day. Just like Zachary had expected, he did also become a good example for his siblings.
In the evening, Yvonne put the kids into their beds and finally had time to tidy up the mess in her bedroom.
After a careful examination, she found that the kids had ruined seven bottles of her perfume, three spilled and four broken.
Her designer’s coat was also covered with her cosmetic products. The delicate fabric couldn’t survive being washed and therefore she could no longer wear it. What’s more, a sheepskin handbag was stained with lipsticks and had to go directly to the trash.
To sum up, the total loss was one bag, seven bottles of perfume and several clothes.
That was not much and she could afford it effortlessly. After all, she had officially taken over Yesmina’s Shining Group and become the director of the biggest cosmetic company in the country. The Lilliput Project had brought her about thirty percent of the shares of the Leinster group. And as Zachary’s legal spouse, she was entitled to half of his wealth. Some friends teased her by saying she had become richer than Zachary. She used to be well off, but now she had made herself a real "plutocrat".
But of course, she was not richer than Zachary yet. Shares of the Leinster Group were only a small portion of his personal wealth.
He owned numerous real estate properties around the world, and the numbers regarding his investment portfolio were astronomical.
Anyway, she had no reason to care about few bottles of perfume, but still, she was a congenital prudent consumer.
As she walked out of the bathroom after a shower, she saw Zachary coming back from his study. Still dressed in suits, he was holding a laptop in his hand, looking sharp.
Yvonne had changed into a white shirt and a pair of pink shorts. She quickly walked over and held him by the hand.
"Honey," said she.
...
The next day, Zachary took Yvonne to the mall.
Zachary owned more than eighty percent of the shopping malls in Hiltonan. In order to make Yvonne feel like she was shopping, they chose a mall that was not under his name.
Eden Mall was a top shopping complex in the city. Walking on the first floor, they were surrounded by the fragrance of fancy perfumeries.
"Didn’t you just lose several bottles of perfume? Let’s go pick some new ones since I’m here."
A lot of men hated shopping, but Zachary had always been very patient with Yvonne when she shopped.
Yvonne came to a boutique and began to try on some perfume.
"Madame, you have an exquisite taste. This is our seasonal limited collection. Would you like to try it?"
The salesgirls could see they were of strong financial viability and therefore were trying their best to close a deal.
But when Yvonne saw the price tag, she became a little hesitant.
"Honey, the price in local boutiques is much higher than the price in its original country, not to mention the duty-free stores. Although it’s still not expensive, I couldn’t help but feel I’m throwing money away."
As she said, she reluctantly put the bottles she had selected back.
"Forget it. Let’s buy it at the duty-free store next time."
She still had many other perfumes at home. It was not necessary to buy some new ones right away.
She had done the math. If she chose to buy it in the local boutique instead of the duty-free store, she had to pay a few hundred bucks more. International traveling had been easier and easier. As a result, fewer and fewer people tended to shop at the local boutiques.
However, Zachary disagreed with her.
"Duty-free stores, overseas shops, and local boutiques all offer different kinds of experience. If you want it now, there’s no reason to wait till your next trip."
"But... "
"We’ll take them all. Wrap them up if you please," said he.
Before Yvonne could refute, he had already taken out a black card and paid for every bottle of perfume she had tried on.
Yvonne was rendered speechless.
After buying the perfume, she already wanted to go home.
She felt she should never shop with him ever again. Every time he came with her, he just paid for everything without any hesitation. She couldn’t even enjoy the fun of shopping, which was to compare and to select.
"I’m done shopping. Let’s go home."
She pouted as she walked out of the perfumery, then stopped and refused to take another step.
"What’s wrong? Are you angry?"
"No, I just want to go home."
"Are you sure you’re not angry?"
"I’m not."
"Then let’s go to buy you a new hand bag."
"No!"
Drat!
Shopping was one of her favorite pastimes, but every time she went shopping with him, she had no fun at all. He just paid for whatever she showed the slightest interest in and wouldn’t even give her any advice. It felt like shopping with a robot.
"I don’t need to buy anything. You have been buying me every seasonal collection and many clothes in my dressing room are still brand new. Let’s go home."
As she spoke, she turned around and wanted to walk away.
Zachary pulled her into his embrace all of a sudden.
"I buy you things because I want to please you, but I’m also afraid that you don’t like my taste. So I’d like to shop with you too."
"I’ll just go shopping by myself in the future."
"If you go shopping by yourself, I know you will definitely pay with your own money. As your man, I feel less confident when you don’t use my money."
Hearing this, she looked up at him with her Bambi-like eyes.
"Really?" said she.
"Yes."
She had never thought about that before. It turned out that he would truly get upset if she refused to use his money.
"Then... let’s go buy a new bag?"
"Sure!"
A bright smile spread across Zachary’s face when Yvonne finally agreed to shop with him.
...
"If you shop with me, you have to respect my decision! Instead of buying it all, we only buy what we need. Your old spending habit is very wrong."
In her previous life, her indulgence into material things led her to misery, and that was why she became very wary of consumerism in this life.
Even if all these years had passed and she had become quite wealthy, she still kept a good spending habit, which was to buy what she needed and liked instead of what might satisfy her vanity.
A decent person would not spend money on unnecessary luxuries but would pay for what one truly needed, even if sometimes the right thing cost a very high price.
"Fine." After pondering for a moment, Zachary decided to respect her decision. "Hooray!"
Yvonne jumped up happily like a kid, just like the first time they met. When she saw Zachary in the mall for the first time, she rushed towards him and kissed him on the cheek.
"Honey, you are the best. I love you!"
But unlike the first time they met, this time, she did not run away.
Zachary put a hand behind her neck and made their kiss even more passionate.
When Yvonne and Zachary came back home from the mall, the kids didn’t see any bags in their hands. They thought they didn’t buy anything, which was new.
But they were wrong. For several days in a row, many things were sent to their home.
It turned out that their parents had purchased so many things that they didn’t bother to carry them home by themselves. The mall took care of the delivery.
Yvonne didn’t just shop for herself but also bought a lot of things for the kids and gifts for Frank and Yesmina, because it was going to be Yesmina’s birthday soon.
On Yesmina’s birthday, Yvonne and Zachary planned were going to Yesmina’s place with their children to celebrate.
At the gate of Lord Villa, Yvonne was about to get into the car, but then she felt something heavy climbed on her legs.
She was one hundred percent sure that it was Andy playing his koala bear game again.
When she was going to check on Andy, Zachary walked over and picked the kid up, and then he stretched his arms out straight and held the child in mid-air.
At first, Andy found it quite fun and giggled cheerfully, but soon he got scared, his arms and legs waving in the air.
"Dad, I’m sorry. I’ll not mess with Mommy again. Help... " Andy’s adorable words made everyone burst into laughter. "Naughty boy."
Zachary could get jealous very easily. He even became jealous of his sons sometimes. When Zachary felt the boys were too clingy to Yvonne, Andy in particular, he would get slightly annoyed.
Andy was put into the back seat of the seven-seater business car right away. Tommy and Jimmy would surely tease him a little, and soon they began to play together.
When one had five children, a sedan would no longer work. A seven-seat MPV was necessary for family occasions.
Their friends all teased them, saying that they would need to drive a bus if they wanted more children.
Yvonne, sitting in the front passenger seat, gave Yesmina a call.
"Mom, we are on our way and will arrive in about thirty minutes," said she.
"Yes, of course. All five children are coming. We’ll celebrate your birthday together."
...
After chatting for a while, Yvonne hung up the phone.
Yvonne and Zachary had cleared their schedule for Yesmina’s birthday a long time ago. They brought all five kids to visit their grandma.
Yvonne had not visited Frank and Yesmina for a while. She was busy with work and children of course, but it was also because her parents were living a very happy and fulfilling life with Emma by their side.
