Reincarnated As the Enemy's Wife: Married the Rival, Bound by Revenge-Chapter 231: We Need to Maintain a Distance
Late at night. In Daniel’s room.
As the firstborn child in the family, Daniel had a face that was a smaller version of Zachary’s, and even his temperament was identical with Zachary’s.
The decoration of his bedroom was mostly of dark color, with a strong masculine aura. Most of the furnishings were white and gray, so it could also be called sexless style.
Daniel was sitting behind his desk reading a heavy book.
On the side, there was a stack of documents, which bore all kinds of complicated mechanical drawings and annotations.
This was the file attached to Jacob’s invitation. All the "advisors" invited to the robot exhibition needed to keep up with the development of the newest robots.
Daniel had shown amazing talent for machines since childhood. However, many children in other families had hired people to interpret and explain these robot manuals, but Daniel, a boy with high IQ, could handle it unaided.
Originally, Daniel could go to bed at this hour.
But after hearing what had happened to the three boys, he had been worried for quite a while and then "lectured" them, so he had to stay up to finish what he should have finished during daytime.
The rustle of paper as he turned the pages was heard in the room...
At this moment, the door of Daniel’s room creaked open.
Daniel swiveled his head around.
He spotted a tender little girl at the door.
She was wearing pajamas, a pillow in her arms, standing drowsily in the doorway.
Click. She closed the door expertly.
"Daniel, why are you not sleeping?" Angela asked, intending to throw herself onto Daniel’s bed.
"What are you doing here?" Daniel stood up from the bed.
"What’s the matter?" Angela rubbed her eyes with one hand.
"This is my room," Daniel emphasized.
"I know this isn’t Andy’s room."
"The problem is, what are you doing in my room in the middle of the night?"
Daniel had fair skin and exquisite features. He was tall, lean and looked like a dashing young man now.
It was said that there were many schoolgirls having a sneaking affection for him.
Angela, however, had got used to her brother’s existence. She said with the air of a spoiled little sister,
"I can’t sleep. I’m scared to death ... " Angela raised her voice a little. "I had a hard job getting some drowsiness, and it’d disappear if you ask me any more questions!"
"But... " Daniel hurried over to her to stop her from getting any closer to his bed.
"But what?" Angela sounded faintly annoyed. "Previously, you always kept me company when I couldn’t sleep, didn’t you?"
Daniel pressed his lips together as his face gradually reddened.
"That was in the past," Daniel said firmly.
"Are things any different now?" Angela asked artlessly. "Is it that we have three little brothers now and you don’t wanna look after me anymore?"
"It’s not like that."
"Then why can’t I sleep here?"
"Boys and girls are supposed to maintain a distance between each other."
"What do you mean?" Angela asked, tilting her head to one side.
"Well, a boy and a girl should avoid physical contact even when passing objects to each other."
Angela promptly gripped Daniel’s hand.
Daniel was thinking that a boy and a girl should avoid physical contact even when passing objects to each other, but Angela directly grabbed his hand. A flush spread to his neck.
Angela had to admit that this forbidding, handsome boy was so good-looking when his face was flushed.
Angela said matter-of -factly, "Neither of us will be passing anything to the other. We’ll just be sleeping together."
Sleeping together...
Daniel was regarding himself as a grown-up.
This was obvious when he had been lecturing the three boys, but his deadly earnest seemed rather weak when he was faced with a situation like this. His neck was even redder now.
With that, Angela made her way towards Daniel’s bed.
"No." Daniel shook off his sister’s hand and said word by word, "Angela, go back to your own room."
"B - But I really can’t sleep. I’m afraid..." Angela looked as though she had been
possessed by Andy’s soul. These years, Andy had almost got everything he wanted by playing cute, and Angela was taking her cue from him.
"Earlier this day, I heard about the scary things Andy and the other two experienced in the hospital. Just now, when I was lying in bed, I saw the flickering shadows on the ceiling and I had a hunch that someone holding a knife was about to burst into my room. I was scared to death," Angela said, sounding on the verge of tears.
"Then I’ll go talk to our parents," Daniel said resignedly.
"Mom and Dad are sleeping, and I wanna sleep in your room. We always slept on the same bed when we were young!"
With that, Angela walked around Daniel and threw herself onto his bed!
On top of that, she burrowed her face into Daniel’s quilt and pillow!
Then she happily rolled once around the bed and wrapped herself up in the quilt.
"It smells so good. This is the very scent I wanna smell. It’s been my favorite smell since I was a little girl," Angela said in a babyish voice.
"You were very young at that time... " Daniel wanted to say something else only to find that Angela did not give him another chance to speak.
She had covered her whole body with the quilt, leaving only half of her head showing, and her breathing was gradually becoming even.
Surprisingly, she fell asleep.
Daniel held back the words on his lips. Moments later, he let out a sigh like an adult and then sat back into his seat.
He began to turn the pages of that thick book with a rustle again.
...
The next day, shortly before noon, Daniel was awakened by a commotion.
He found that he had, to his surprise, drifted off while slumped over his desk last night, and that he had even dribbled saliva onto his book.
Daniel, "... "
He gingerly detached the page of the book from his cheek.
Then he tried hard to recall what happened last night.
He remembered that... he had been studying... and then... Angela had walked inside.
He thought, "That’s right. Where is she?"
Daniel turned his head and found that the quilt was left in a heap on the bed, but his little sister was nowhere to be seen.
At that moment, a thin blanket slipped off his shoulder...
Daniel was momentarily astonished at the sight of the thin blanket.
But soon, he heard another loud commotion from downstairs, and someone seemed to be yelling, "Daniel! Daniel! Come down here! Hurry!"
"The sun is on your butt!"
"You’re such a sleepyhead, Daniel!"
Daniel checked the time only to find that it was almost noon.
At this hour, the three boys’ tutor should have just left, and the housekeeper was probably cleaning the garden, and there were no other adults in the house.
At ordinary times, he, the elder brother, was responsible for taking care of the three boys, but last night he stayed up so late studying that this morning he failed to hear the alarm clock.
He hoped that the three brats hadn’t caused any trouble...
Daniel hurried downstairs and, unsurprisingly, found that the three boys were exactly as he expected.
The tutor had just left, and the three boys were roughhousing madly, chanting his name and asking him to come downstairs.
As Daniel descended the stairs, the three boys downstairs instantly screamed and scampered in all directions, shouting, "The sleepyhead monster has woken up! Help!!"
Before he reached the ground floor, he heard Tommy’s voice say, "Andy is here. Take him! Take him!"
And then Andy complained, "You’re cheating, Tommy!"
Jim jumped out of his hiding spot and crowed at Andy and Tommy, "Aha! Gotcha!"
"Stupid Jimmy, you are not the Chaser anymore. Daniel is the sleepyhead monster! You’re such a fool. Go hide yourself!"
The three boys were romping in the living room. At the sight of Daniel, they decided to clear off.
Daniel was just about to remind the three boys to be quiet.
Suddenly, all the three boys stopped dead in their tracks, gaping at Daniel, their eyes wide open, as though they were seeing the most astonishing thing in the world.
"What happened to your face, Daniel!?" Andy was stunned.
"Daniel, what happened to your eyes!?" Tommy promptly asked.
Daniel didn’t have a clue what they were talking about.
Daniel looked at himself in the mirror in the living room and with that his face darkened!
His cheek bore several lines of words. It was because last night he sat slumped over his book, and his saliva wetted the book and then the words were printed on his cheek.
On top of that, since he had stayed up very late, he now had dark circles under his eyes!
Predictably, the three boys, having noticed the funny abnormality of his face, burst into laughter.
"Ha ha... Daniel, you’ve indeed become a sleepyhead monster. Your face looks so strange!"
"He’s not a sleepyhead monster. He’s a panda spirit!"
"Angela, come over here! Daniel’s become a panda spirit! He’s got a book on his face! He’s a book spirit!"
The commotion caused by the three boys soon attracted the attention of Angela playing with some toys.
Angela had been a little unhappy, but at the sight of Daniel’s face, she burst out laughing as well.
The four children laughed on and on in the living room, pointing out Daniel’s face to each other.
"We’re coming to bring down the panda spirit!" Andy lunged at Daniel, as if to make the situation even messier.
"Take this, monster!"
He promptly grabbed a throw pillow from the sofa and hurled it at Daniel, yelling,
"Charge, brothers! Save the world!"
Before Daniel could bring his mind back from the mechanical knowledge he learned last night, a pillow hit him.
He also knew that the pillow that heftily hit him full in the face was no doubt from Jim.
Mature as Daniel appeared, he was only a child a few years older than the three boys.
After being hit by the first volley of pillows, he grabbed two pillows from beside his feet and hurled them at Andy and Tommy respectively.
"The panda spirit is fighting back! Let’s press our attack harder!" Tommy also began to egg his brothers on.
More pillows flew towards Daniel!
This time, Daniel noticed that even Angela joined the fray.
There were not enough throw pillows in the living room. Tommy immediately ran into the toy room and then the study, returning with more throw pillows and dolls to use them as "cannonballs".
"The big monster’s fled into the storeroom. Give chase, warriors!"
Outnumbered, Angela fled into Yvonne’s checkroom and hid there, but the boys still found her.
The five children quickly filed into Yvonne’s coatroom, various throw pillows and dolls in their hands.
"Target locked! Launch the missile!"
Slap!
Slap!
Clash!
It was over.
At this moment, a discordant sound of glass breaking was heard in the coat check.
The five children’s laughter instantly stopped.
They stared blankly at the shards of glass in front of them.
Smelling the mixed scent of the perfumes, the kids looked from the wetted and stained clothes and handbags to each other.
They thought, "We’re toast."
Their mother’s favorite perfumes, the pink one and the golden one, had both been smashed.
On top of that, some of the cosmetic products had splattered across the coats and handbags their mother had hung up on the back of a chair.
Right at that moment, the sound of locking a car issued from the garden.
"Crap!"
"Mom and Dad are back!"
