Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 99: Give him back.
Ava glared a bit, taking a second to look at Alaric’s unconscious body and then at the Duchess, who was still on the ground.
If only someone could walk through those doors—a knight, anyone. She could use that as a means to take Alaric to safety.
Even though she didn’t fully understand what was going on and why Hina was suddenly acting the way she was, she knew Alaric’s safety was her top priority.
The fact that none of Alaric’s summons had appeared was just as concerning.
"Whatever it is you’re plotting, it’s of no use. It’s not going to work," Hina uttered.
This made Ava look at her, almost disgusted but also a bit puzzled.
"I still don’t understand why you’re doing this. Why poison him because some goddess said so? It doesn’t make any sense."
"My reasons are for me alone. Lord Alaric is under my care. You can rest assured your duties end here, Ava Isenberg. I’ll handle whatever is to come."
"What’s that supposed to mean?"
"Think whatever you wish. I don’t care. I’ll be leaving now."
Hina grabbed Alaric’s hand, and almost immediately, Ava grabbed the other.
"Where do you think you’re taking him?" Ava’s instincts flared.
"Are you trying to get in my way? You know you can’t win," Hina uttered.
"..." Ava sighed. "Let go of him, Hina. I’m sorry, but I don’t want to have to hurt a friend."
Hina scowled. "Screw you."
From nowhere, a huge force erupted from around Hina, sending everything around her flying—ripping the ground apart and breaking every piece of furniture in the room.
Ava was no exception.
She was sent flying, her back slamming against the wall violently.
By the time she came to, she could see Hina at the edge of the window, with Alaric on her shoulder while she looked back.
Immediately, her eyes snapped open, about to leap into action, when from nowhere, a blade ruptured her chest from the other side of the wall.
Blood spilled from her mouth, just as much as it did from the open wound on her chest.
’H... how...’
Ava could barely open her mouth, the injury on her chest spreading with every passing second.
It was then that Hina spoke, her voice calm and sinister.
"I told you, you can’t win. I have people working for me, stationed all around the castle. Learn your place."
And then, she leaped out of the window, landing on a flying mammal that soared through the sky.
Questions ran through Ava’s mind—how on earth was Hina able to gather people, and who exactly were they?
She could still feel the person trying to pull the blade out of her chest.
The pain sent heat all through her body, causing her limbs to go numb.
Yet, as she watched Hina take her lord away—the man she loved and was willing to sacrifice her life for—every ounce of feeling she had completely vanished.
Not the pain, not the fact that she was bleeding, not her attempts to understand Hina—nothing mattered.
In that moment, all she wanted to do was get Alaric back.
"Give him back!!!"
Ava screamed with her weak lungs, her blade appearing in her grasp as she charged forward, mana flowing out of her, covering her impressive speed.
Charging out of the window, she got ready to use her feet to push against the wall when, from nowhere, two individuals dressed in black showed up beside her.
"Uhn?"
Both individuals sent a huge force of flames her way, the power pushing them back.
Of course, Ava was unharmed.
She landed on the ground, her body rolling over before standing to her feet and immediately taking to her heels.
Her clothes were burning, only getting put out by the force of the wind as she ran, chasing after the flying mammal.
"Hinaaaaa!!!" Ava screamed, somehow catching up to the flying beast.
Hina looked down, noticing Ava chasing behind her, with over six other black-dressed individuals trying to catch up to her.
"Dammit, this freaking girl can be so annoying!" Hina clicked her tongue before aiming her hand at Ava.
Boom! Boom!
She began to shoot out a green orb-like attack at Ava, an attack that melted anything it came in contact with.
Ava was prepared, using her blade to slice them all up before they could reach her.
During the distraction, the men in black somehow caught up to her and managed to grab her, pinning her down one by one.
Before Ava’s body could touch the ground, she gathered some spit in her mouth, fused it with her mana, and then spat at Hina.
Like an arrow, the spit charged forward, hitting Hina on the forehead with enough force to knock her down from the beast.
Now, she was covered by over ten different men, with no way of moving as they had all pinned her to the ground with their bodies.
Hina, on the other hand, had already fallen to the ground with a huge thud.
She used her body to protect the fall so Alaric wouldn’t get hurt.
With a broken arm and a bleeding forehead, she managed to stand to her feet, her face twisted with anger.
As she looked to the side, she noticed the pile of dead bodies at the other side of her vision—yes, the men who had been chasing Ava were all dead.
"Ahnnn?"
Hina was confused, an expression that soon turned to fear when Ava appeared behind her, blade aimed at her neck with the eyes of a hunter targeting its prey.
Acting fast, Hina grabbed Ava by the arm and flung her to the opposite side, watching as Ava gently touched the ground with her foot.
And then she uttered...
"Hand him over."
Hina frowned.
"How long do you intend to get in my way?! Uhn?? I told you he’s in safe hands, so why on earth won’t you mind your damn business?"
"Coming from someone that poisoned Lord Alaric, I think you can—"
"It had to be done! It has to be done!!! Do you think Alaric would choose to follow me if he knew it was for some selfish reason to save him?! You know him just as well as I do! Quit getting in my way!"
"Sorry, not happening. Give him back."
