Reincarnated as the Baron's son: My Infinite Card Upgrade System-Chapter 104: Could you do it?
"Alaric!!!"
Ava screamed, racing as fast as she could so she could catch up to him.
All around her she could hear the sound of metals hitting one another.
She didn’t care.
Despite the fact she ran over multiple dead soldiers, she didn’t once give them a second glance.
Some soldiers were not from the barony, and other were, still... Alaric was right before her. Ava didn’t want to lose such an opportunity.
Why was Hina the one chosen to stand by his side?
What on earth could be happening to make Alaric act this way?
She wanted to know everything.
Bash!
Alaric crashed the window as he flying into it, landing right out the mansion.
Ava planned on doing the same thing, accelerating faster so she could catch up to him.
"Awwwwn~ where do you think you’re going?!"
Ava halted immediately, noticing a girl dressed in a cloak now blocking the path leading to the window.
Judging from the black wolf tail and ears, it didn’t take Ava long to realize she was a demon. And if that was the case, she was probably amongst the intruders.
"Get out of my way."
That wasn’t enough to stop her.
Charging forward, Ava was more than ready to push the woman to the side.
At least it was what she planned.
As soon as she got close, an invisible wall showed up, basically separating her from the window.
"Sorry, no can’t do. The master told me not to allow anyone to follow him, I’m simply obeying his orders." The wolf girl uttered, now sitting at the edge of the window with her legs crossed.
"Don’t worry, once he is far enough, I’ll be on my merry way."
"By master? Are you perhaps referring to Lord Alaric?" Ava asked her voice laced with malice.
"Oh right, that’s what you human folks call him. Hmm, sure, I guess too can say that. You know, you idiots are actually very lucky, having such an incredible man rule over you for so long, how selfish, keeping him all to yourself like that. Ahh~ The master is truly something..."
Ava couldn’t help but write her anger on her face, her fist clenched.
"Ruling over the demons has to be a miracle from the demon lord himself! Once all is said and done, demons will no longer need to hide or feel oppressed. All because the master said so. That’s why I said you are luckly, if we had him sooner, we would probably be ruling the world by now."
"It was you."
"It was me what? Believe me, I only gave my undying loyalty-"
"You were the people that made him change so much." Ava gritted her teeth, her aura flowing intensely out of her body, "What did you animals do to Lord Alaric?!"
"Animals? Hey now, just because I am deciding not to hurt you, doesn’t mean..."
Creek!
It started with a slight crack on the invisible wall, and then it spread, until eventually, the entire thing was broken.
Before the demon human could make sense of what had just happened, Ava charged forward, wrapping her fingers around her neck.
The demi human immediately tried to free herself, but every effort she did was all for nothing. Ava was far stronger than she was.
"Sit down and don’t go anywhere. I have some questions to ask you right after!" With a large amount of force, Ava slammed the wolf girl’s back to the walls, rendering her unconscious.
Not even a second later, Ava flew down from the window, getting ready to zoom forward the moment her feet touched the ground.
But to her surprise, Alaric was still in the compound of the mansion, right where he had landed.
His back was faced with her, so she couldn’t immediately see the reason as to why he hadn’t run.
Kika Montclair.
She stood in front of him, her entire face hitched with motivation and a hint of sadness.
"Alaric..." Kika called out, taking a step forward, "That is your right? My son...?"
Alaric couldn’t say a word, be simply stood there, his expression covered by his mask.
"It really is you, isn’t it? My baby, what have you done to yourself? You don’t look to be eating well, where have you been staying? Is something going on that you aren’t telling me about?"
Alaric didn’t intend on answering any of her questions.
As much as it hurt him, he couldn’t. Anymore, and every words and motivation he had told himself would slip between his fingers.
Looking to the opposite side, be was ready to speed off.
"Oh no you don’t!!!"
Ava immediately followed. She was faster, hance, she had no problem catching up for Alaric.
Once she grabbed his hand, she flipped him over, placing her knees on his shoulder to pin him down before removing the mask from his face.
Alaric’s eyes were dead, almost as if he was an empty vessel.
"Alaric..." Ava couldn’t but whisper after seeing face.
"Why are you doing this? If you tell me this is all some kind of big misunderstanding, I promise I won’t question you. If you tell me you just accidentally tried to kill me, then I promise I won’t hold it against you." Her voice shook, clearly almost at the verge of crying.
"Why make such an obvious lie? Would my hand accidentally snap your neck by mistake? It doesn’t work like that Ava."
"I... don’t think I am in the state to hear anything logical."
"You holding me down isn’t going to stop me from accomplishing my goal, Ava." Alaric said with a stoic voice.
"What goal? Is that goal so important that you’d try to kill me and then go out with Hina of all people?!"
Hearing this, Kika couldn’t help but cover her mouth, jaw dropped.
"You never tell me anything, not then, not now. Still, the least you can do right now is to let me understand what is going on with you? I didn’t take it anymore, it’s killing me." Ava gripped his cloth tightly, taking everything in her to control her emotions.
Suddenly, Alaric uttered,
"Ava Isenberg, kills Alaric Montclair, the single terrorist who brought the end of the world. She is proclaimed to me the hero who saves everyone from the villain. An honor befitting of knight".
Terrified, Ava asked,
"W..what are you talking about, lord Alaric?"
"You asked me what my goal is, and that is simply my answer."
"You want to... destroy the world?"
"Yes. The world. I will destroy it and build a new one."
"No, no, no this doesn’t sound! This isn’t right! The Lord Alaric I know wouldn’t make such a statement, he wouldn’t!" Ava lowered her head, trying desperately to take in everything she was hearing.
"You say this despite me being in front of you. Have you gotten that delusional?"
"And why the hell are you speaking like this? This isn’t how you normally speak! Stop acting weird and go back to you already! Please! I beg of you!"
"Let me ask you a question. You once promised to be my shield and blade, which you made clear you’d not hesitate to die for me, is that correct? "
"Y-yes." Ava replied .
"Then imagine this." He moved his face closer, his gaze piercing, unyielding. "What if it wasn’t just me? What if every soul you swore to shield—Erica, the barony, everyone—turned to ash unless you swung that blade through them first? Not to save me, but to stop something clawing them apart from the inside. Could you do it? Spill their blood, watch them fall, if it was the only way to keep the world from choking on itself?"
"You..."
Ava paused, her head trying to wrap around the question Alaric had asked her.
Could she ever think to kill anyone in the barony? Erica? Even lady Montclair?
"Why ask such a..."
"Answer me!!! Could you do it?! Uhn? Could you stain your hands with innocent blood even if it was temporarily?!!! What’s wrong? Can’t answer?!"
Ava looked to the side, unable to give a response.
"You are a kind person. That in Itself should give you the gist of it. I on the other hand, am a soldier. When it comes to it, I know how to lay my heart on the ground to get things done. Don’t get in my way Ava."
"You really...want to kill..."
"Yes! Is that what you want to hear?! Yes! I need to kill them! So get the hell off me already?!!!"
Alaric pushed her away and then slowly stood to his feet.
The fact Kika hadn’t said a word all these times made him a bit cautious, but it wasn’t worth worrying about.
Now looking back at Ava, who was still knelt on the ground, her face filled when disbelief.
"When the time comes, you will have to make a choice. Me, of this world. I trust you’ll make the right decision. Ava Isenberg."
Pheww!
Alaric charged.
It was then Kika finally spoke..
"My son...is gone." She uttered, tears flowing down her cheeks.

[A/N: Have patience.]
