Reincarnated as incubus: I didn't mean to seduce you!-Chapter 402 - 177: The Age of Embers (10K, please follow)_3
But clearly, for some reason, the will of the world did not want to stand on the side of the Alliance.
Right, if it were merely about standing with the Alliance, there wouldn’t be a need to deploy all its forces as the World Will had said. Handled well, a single elite Ranger unit would suffice to break through from the inside out.
At that moment, a voice suddenly erupted from the earpiece hanging beside Kael’s ear:
"Captain, we have received urgent communication. The patrol team in the desert outside the city has encountered a group of Desert Spine Snakes, numbering around 10-15.
They didn’t have time to kill them, and at least 9 snakes have burrowed into the sand.
The closest goblin cleaning squad is still out on a mission, so I’m afraid you’ll need to lead the Ranger Squad to clean up these monsters and ensure they don’t get anywhere near the residential areas."
Kael immediately pictured the Desert Spine Snakes in his mind.
They are a type of ugly snake, at least eleven or twelve meters in length. Their mineralized crystal scales and slippery scale powder make them so tough that even an adult with a machete would struggle to tear through their armor layer.
The tumor-like venom sacs on either side of their mouths could spray a highly corrosive poison mist up to fifteen meters in front, and accidentally inhaling even a bit could rot one’s throat or even the lungs.
Logically, these monsters were most easily killed using the goblins’ firearms.
But unfortunately, their protective coloration matched the vast desert perfectly, making it very difficult to track them down from afar. Usually, when encountering these creatures, Wandong City’s council would send out a Perception Professional to help the troops exterminate them.
But as luck would have it, several of Wandong City’s Perception Professionals had gone with a team to collect water sources.
Thinking of this, Kael spoke into his earpiece, "Then I’ll go. Have someone prepare my weapons; I’ll head directly to the city gates."
"Our people are already waiting at the gates. I’m sorry, we had agreed to give you the day off today, but you’re the only one with significant perceptual abilities available in Wandong City now."
Kael didn’t respond but moved swiftly, reaching the city gates in five minutes.
The goblin stationed at the gates saluted him and handed him a half-meter-tall box.
Kael calmly opened the box, took out a dark brown armguard, donned it, and then grabbed the Alloy Axe and shield. He nodded at the soldier, and the massive city gates were pulled open by mechanical devices.
He stepped out and walked toward the sand-filled outside world.
…
[Wandong City-Council Hall]
In a well-lit corner of Wandong City, the meeting room was somewhat silent.
Sitting in the corner, Kael rested his head on a hand, his face showing an unshakable fatigue.
"Children, don’t look back, this isn’t home!"
In a blurred dream, he heard an old man’s agonized cry. Even in his doze, his heart involuntarily skipped a beat, and the rush of blood tore through his sleepy eyes.
He felt irritated, the memories he had acquired in the historical echoes were impacting him more than he had anticipated.
This shouldn’t be the case.
If they were affecting him this much, it would be even worse for his subordinates.
However, by taking advantage of today’s venture out of the city to clear away the Desert Spine Snakes driven by the elves, he had successfully rendezvoused with the rangers who had entered the Dungeon.
After carefully inquiring about the condition of the other rangers, he found that though they were also affected, it wasn’t as severe as it was for Kael.

This was somewhat incomprehensible to him.
It couldn’t just be because he was more handsome that they targeted him, could it?
He frowned tightly, his demeanor showing his discomfort.
In a daze, he felt the atmosphere around him suddenly become noisy, faintly hearing whispers of a crowd.
"Just like back then, we need a massive evacuation."
"We can’t evacuate now - how could we possibly do that? Do you think it’s like when the war just started? Do you have any idea what managing the day-to-day lives of four hundred thousand citizens entails, and moreover, where could we even hide?"

"How many of our own can the military spare?"
"Our conventional military, patchy as it is, might make up about forty thousand?"
"That’s not enough, just not enough! Many brothers died on the west coast two days ago during that wave of undead..."
"Captain Kael, Kael, are you listening?"
Kael jerked awake from his drowsy state, nodded towards the middle-aged man who had awoken him, and watched the group of men and women silently confront each other around the round table, a deep fatigue flashing in their eyes.
"Everyone, we’re running out of time."
The senior goblin gently tapped the table and said in a low voice, "I hope you can quickly make a decision. Time is life, and if we miss this last chance to evacuate..."
"We will be the sinners!"
Kael glanced at a booklet printed in the smallest size and neatly bound.
"Statistical and Evacuation Planning due to the Monster Attacks and Undead Tide on the West Coast."
Kael gently flipped through the booklet. It had no plan, and it wasn’t until he had read halfway through the booklet that he realized, every line was filled with "dead people."
Simply put: The west coast defensive line had just faced a massive assault from the undead tide. The goblins’ rapid response squad, exhausted and running low on ammunition, had managed to exterminate the undead tide but were then forced to fight the monsters again, almost getting wiped out entirely.
They had tried their best, but human effort has its limits and cannot contend against the supernatural!
