Regressor's Harem Of Vengeance-Chapter 49. Monster Tide [2]: Northern Barricade.
Later that evening, Mira went over to the Northern part of the village.
She quietly stood beside Ray and stared into the horizon, just like him.
She could see how dark the trees were and how much the forest had become silent.
There was no wind and no sound even from the insects.
This indicated that the monsters were truly close now.
Mira sighed deeply and Ray could feel how worried she was, thanks to the bond they shared.
Monsters had killed her parents when she was young, so it made sense for her to be worried about the numbers that would be storming into the village soon and Ray couldn’t help but place a comforting hand on her shoulder.
"You know you can stay at the village center right?" Ray didn’t want her to stay where the concentration of the monsters would be saturated.
He’d rather have her battling the smaller number of monsters that might pass through their defenses.
That way, Mira wouldn’t feel worried about the number of monsters she would face.
"No, I don’t want to. I want to stay here." Mira said, trying to remain brave but Ray couldn’t help but find it cute as he smiled softly and instantly came to a decision.
"Alright, my mind is made up. If you’re able to kill a hundred monsters tonight. I’m giving you a hundred kisses all over your body."
"W-What?" Mira’s cheeks turned crimson instantly and Ray couldn’t help but smile and chuckle lightly. But his smile instantly turned into a frown the moment he noticed the number of monsters charging into the range of his <<Void Sense>> skill.
Mira noticed his sudden mood change and asked. "Are they close?"
"Yes."
Mira turned back to the forest and for the first time, she could now hear the vibrations that spread through the ground.
There was also a low rumbling sound, but she could mostly feel the vibrations caused by their sheer amount.
In short, it felt like a powerful thunder was slowly approaching the village.
Meanwhile, down at the Northern barricade, a group of villagers was slowly beginning to hear the vibrations as well.
Two young farmers in particular, stood beside each other and asked.
"Did you hear that?" The first asked.
"Yeah, I did." The second replied.
They both listened quietly and they could now hear the rumbling growing louder.
The trees at the edge of the forest began to move from the impact made by the monsters.
It was easy to see that something or more precisely, a lot of monsters were passing through and causing the entire tree line to sway frantically.
The two young farmers tightened their grip on their weapons, along with everybody else, and within seconds their eyes widened in fear as the monsters burst through the forest in hundreds, causing their hair to stand on end.
"Goddess help us." A middle-aged man uttered as everyone’s heart began to pound heavily in their chests.
In front of them, wolves, goblins, horned stags, and a couple of other monsters leaped out of the forest as though something even more terrifying was chasing after them.
Giant spiders skittered alongside the wolves but these monsters didn’t attack each other.
They were natural predators and prey to each other, but at the moment, neither of them gave a damn about the other.
All they cared about was escaping the goblins and Hobgoblins behind them.
These two creatures would definitely hunt down wolves and spiders to serve as food for the Ogres chasing after them.
But the wolves, spiders, and stags weren’t going to just sit around and become Ogres food.
They lunged into the northern barricade like a wave hitting a wall and the village exploded with noise.
"HOLD THE LINE!!" The voice of a middle-aged man cut through the noise as the villagers reacted to his words immediately.
The villagers held their line for exactly four minutes, but then the wolves approached.
Some immediately rammed themselves into the sharp stakes, impaling themselves in the process while others stepped over their dead colleagues to leap over the barricade and land among the fighters before any of the villagers could even react to their quick thinking.
But Ray swiftly activated his <<Void Step>> ability, then flickered across the barricade line to appear beside the first wolf.
His Frost blade slashed through the neck of the wolf in a single clean strike and the wolf dropped to the ground without a single sound.
A second wolf had already leaped into the air as well and sunk its jaw into a villager’s hand when the bloke suddenly appeared to block its path.
The middle-aged man screamed in pain and shock as he yanked his arm away, forcing the last piece of his flesh to tear off in the wolf’s mouth.
Ray noticed this, and he simply grabbed the side of the wolf’s head with his hand while the wolf chewed on its meal, then his fingers began to sink into the wolf’s flesh, crushing its thick skull.
The wolf’s eyes popped out of its socket and its skull cracked until it became unrecognizable.
The pure strength of a level 10 Awakener should never be underestimated. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
Ray swiftly turned around and noticed Mira launching her spear at the monsters in front of her.
The pure force behind her throw propelled the spear until it pierced through three goblins and four wolves at the same time.
Seeing this, the edge of Ray’s lips stretched into a grin.
His beautiful Tauren really wanted him to give her a hundred kisses.
Ray was reminded once again of how strong a Tauren girl was in contrast to humans.
If she had awakened already, Ray could easily see Mira being a Level four Awakener with that kind of strength and force.
Anyways, that wasn’t important right now.
There were more pressing issues to attend to.
Ray reminded himself as he pulled his gaze away from Mira who was already retrieving another spear from the pile of spears she’d positioned behind her.
The battle continued for hours.
For the first hour, the goblins constantly probed the barricade, then they scrambled at some wooden stakes, trying to find any gaps they could use to get through.
They pulled at the rope barriers with their clawed hands but the villagers beat them back with spears, axes, and torches.
