Regressing Through the Apocalypse with the Third Male Lead-Chapter 39: Volume 2.
Chapter 39: Volume 2. Chapter 39
Three months ago...
Manila
Thundered roared and rain poured down...
"They are heading to Bohol." Paula said as she traced all the last message from Freyah.
"Chief! Paula! Most of the planes were not available anymore."
"But there is a second plane the flew ahead of us." Grace said.
"That must be the last working place." Rudy said.
"Then we can’t get to Bohol." Grace sighed. "Should we just head back to Pampanga.
"There is still one way where we can get there." Their Chief said. "We can go and take the ship. From here, it should not be far to go and reach the pier." He continued.
Paula bit the thumb on her right hand. Then walked back and forth. "Yes. That could work."
However with so many cars blocking the way and zombies, it took them two days to reach the pier.
"Dad. I’ll stay here in Manila." The chief’s turned to her daughter, Lora when they finally secured a ship for themselves.
"I’ll return back at Pampanga and oversee things there." Lora said. "Though the person you are keep saying will destroy the world. I don’t really think I can stand the thought of someone killing a fellow human whatever the reason behind."
"It seems you have thought this over."
"Yes. Dad."
"I’ll accompany her back, Chief." Grace said. "There are not many zombies and cars in the way, since we have cleared it. So it won’t be very dangerous."
"Alright." The chief agreed though he was a bit worried. But this journey, he knew that it could be very dangerous that was why he was also relieved deep inside.
"I’ll wait for you, Dad." Lora hugged her dad. Then whispered something before she released the hug.
The chief looked at his daughter with a meaningful gaze. "I’ll come back. Wait for me, Lora."
Then the Chief looked at Grace. "Take care of my daughter."
"I will, Chief." Grace answered firmly.
"You. Don’t be reckless." Lora looked at Paula. "One wrong move and there are things that you won’t be able to repeat again no matter how much you regret it."
Paula clicked her tongue inside her mind. ’The problem with talented and special people like her is they always think that they have a say in everything.’
But why does she need to say something like this?
Paula gave her fake smile. "I’m always careful. And we will all return."
Moments later...
Lora watched as the ship went away. She was waving her hand back at her dad until they were far enough.
"I never trusted her." Lora said. "But dad trusts her. I hope dad is right this time."
Grace watched the ship going away. She remembered the battle they had with Freyah. Freyah’s comrade tried to save her. But at the last minute Freyah forced herself not to fall down and pushed her comrade away, receiving all the knives rained down on herself instead.
"Based on what you told me before... A person who could sacrifice herself for others. That even if she was being saved, she refused to do so. A person like that was the one who was going to destroy the world." Lora stated. "What do you think, Ate Grace?"
"But it didn’t change the fact that Paula posted all those countermeasures online before the apocalypse and saved us all." Grace said. "If not for that, we would all be dead."
"Is it really true though? Is she the one who posted that?" Lora asked.
"She is the account holder. She even showed that to us." Grace said. "Let’s just wait. When they return, we will be able to live without worrying about ourselves."
"Is it true? The person who is the one who posted is on that ship? Where are they going?"
Lora and Grace froze when they heard a man’s voice behind. They looked behind and they couldn’t help but tremble at the sight of the man.
Simeon came forward, blocking Lora behind. "Who are you?"
The man who was a few meters away from them, wore half a white mask. There were bandages surrounding every part of his body. But between some of the bandages, there was deep scarred skin due to burns.
"I’m Ferdinand. But you can just call me Ferdi." The man introduced himself and bowed. "You see, I had my tour somewhere in Manila making beautiful fireworks left and right ’cause Christmas and New Year is near...boom... boom..." he said while opening and closing his two hands. "Then you know all of a sudden, I saw this plane in the sky. Not only one but two. Men, I was really surprised. Though I plan to go there after three more days, but I decided to go to the airport on the spot. Then I saw all of you there. And I follow you down here to the pier. Now I’m here." The man who introduced himself as Ferdi, stepped forward.
But Grace brought out her gun. "Do not come any closer."
Ferdi raised his hand. "I’m not dangerous or anything. Or is it because of my look? I get it, really. I look like a walking dead. But you know, it still hurts a little when people who saw me for the first time treat me like a monster or a dangerous person."
Lora stepped beside Grace. "Why did you follow us?"
"Is it normal to follow a fellow survivor?"
"Then why did you not reveal yourself the first time you saw us?"
"Because I always got that reaction." Ferdi pointed at Grace.
"You can check on me. I don’t have any weapons on me."
"Even if you don’t have any weapons. We don’t know if you have a skill that can..." Grace was not able to finish his sentence... Ferdi appeared in an instant in front of him. Then reappeared back in the distant.
There was a fire and smoke between them. "You’re caution. I understand that." Ferdi said as he raised the handcuffed he snatched from Simeon.
"My handcuffs..." Simeon looked at his right side.
"Sorry about that, I still can’t control my skill well." Ferdi said as he twirled the handcuffs on his right index finger.
"If you wanted to hurt us, we will not be having this conversation," Lora said.
"I don’t want to hurt any of you." Ferdi stopped twirling the handcuffs.
Locked. He immediately locked both of his hands on it. Which surprised Lora and Grace. "I promised crossed my heart until I die, I won’t cause any harm to any of you or your friends. I give my best to help all of you."
"What do you really want from us?" Lora asked.
"What I want is a refuge. It’s really scary out there." He said with a sad smile. "Seeing fellow survivors do you know how happy I am."
Grace and Lora looked at each other. He was contradicting every of his words from the start. "What do you think should we do, Kuya Simeon?"
"I don’t trust him." Grace said out loud enough for Ferdi to hear. "But I can’t abandon a fellow human. You can come with us. But the moment, you do something funny, I’ll deal with you."
Ferdi acted like he was crying. "Oh thank you, thank you! I am going to be in safe place now."
"I’ll drive. Let’s hit the road before the skies turned completely dark." Lora walked ahead.
Then Grace walked to Ferdi. Then he removed the handcuffs on his. "Don’t snatch my things out of nowhere."
"Yes. I will. Sorry for that." Ferdi grinned. Then the three of them headed to their white van.
"Where are the three of your companions heading?" Ferdi asked as soon as he entered the van.
"You don’t need to know about that." Grace said.
"Ok. Ok." Ferdi said while gesturing like he was zipping his mouth. Then he looked outside as the van started moving away. His eyes became bored and sleepy as he looked at the scenery. "I’m sleeping." He said then moments later... soft snores resounded the van.
"Will this be alright?" Lora asked.
"This is what your father would do in this situation." Grace said. "But I’ll be monitoring him always."
Lora sighed. "I just dad and the others will return as soon as possible."
"They will especially the Chief. After all, he knows that you are waiting for him."
A tired smile escaped Lora’s face. "Yes. I know he will."
This was not really the first time that Lora was separated to her dad. Due to his line of work in the police, it even took months sometimes for them not to see each other. But with death lingering all around the world, the usual fear she was feeling, doubled.
But his dad would always return. No matter what happened. He never missed every single important detail of her life.
"Dad, please, all of you, be safe out there."

Meanwhile...
"Look, we found this people onboard hiding in the cabins!"
Simeon pushed four people on the upper deck of the ship. Two women and two men.
"Please don’t hurt us." The people kowtowed.
The Chief looked ahead. They were far from the pier already to return. "Don’t worry. We won’t hurt all of you." He said trying to reassured them. "But I’m afraid we can’t go back to the pier anymore."
"It’s alright." One of the men said. "We are fine anywhere as long as we are safe."
