Redemption of a Born Demon-Chapter 61: Great Bao Lian Temple: Famed Far and Wide with Numerous Followers (Part 2)
"Beidou?"
Watching the figure walk past, Jiang Yanxin called out tentatively.
The tall figure stopped and turned around.
"And you are?"
Yi Beidou looked down at Jiang Yanxin, a puzzled expression in his eyes.
He didn’t recognize the girl in front of him.
"It really is you, Beidou! You don’t even recognize me? We were classmates just a month ago!"
Jiang Yanxin stepped forward, looking Yi Beidou up and down.
’A classmate?’
Yi Beidou’s memory was a bit hazy. Back in university, his true self had not yet been realized; he was still undergoing his tribulations and had sealed himself off from the world. Aside from his studies, he barely interacted with anyone, let alone participated in class or club activities. The university even took his mental health issues into account, granting him an exemption from his thesis defense. All he had to do was submit his paper.
So, it was perfectly normal for him not to remember his classmates.
However, he didn’t hold any ill will toward his university classmates. After all, they had been quite tolerant of an "outcast" like him.
Seeing Yi Beidou’s reaction, Jiang Yanxin felt a sense of helplessness.
"I’m Jiang Yanxin. By the way, what are you doing in Siam? Did you come alone? Your autism..."
Jiang Yanxin asked, glancing around suspiciously.
Yi Beidou didn’t know her, but she had a deep impression of him. In fact, there wasn’t a single student in their class, or even their entire year, who didn’t have a deep impression of Yi Beidou.
After all, he was a quiet and reserved outcast with some mental health problems. And yet, he was tall, handsome, and masculine, radiating a powerful male charm that was paradoxically coupled with a stoic, ascetic air. He stood out from the crowd; it was impossible not to notice him.
This combination of traits was enough to make anyone’s imagination run wild. Rumor had it that someone in the girls’ dorm had even drawn fanfiction of Yi Beidou.
His autism seemed quite severe back then, to the point where he barely spoke to anyone. How could he possibly be in Siam all by himself now?
Scenarios involving kidnapping and human trafficking couldn’t help but cross Jiang Yanxin’s mind.
After all, with Yi Beidou’s looks and physique, he would be highly sought after.
"My autism has been cured. I’m just out for a walk by myself now. Thank you for your concern."
Yi Beidou said with a nod.
"Ah, that’s wonderful! Why don’t we go together?"
Jiang Yanxin said, her eyes sparkling.
"No, thank you. I have things to do. It was nice seeing you, Jiang Tongxue. Until we meet again."
Yi Beidou shook his head slightly at Jiang Yanxin, then turned and walked away, giving her no chance to say another word.
He was doing it for their own good.
If they got any more involved with him, the two of them might never leave Bao Lian Temple alive.
When ordinary people get entangled in the karma of a Human Immortal, they are ground to dust.
"Even with his autism cured, he’s still so cold."
Jiang Yanxin couldn’t help but pout as she watched Yi Beidou’s retreating back.
"Hey, was that your old college crush? Our little Xinxin is so pretty, and he just completely blew you off."
Tian Peijun asked with a grin, draping her arm around Jiang Yanxin.
"What? Don’t be ridiculous!"
Jiang Yanxin’s face flushed slightly.
’It wasn’t a crush, exactly,’ she thought. ’I just... read the fanfiction.’
She then recounted Yi Beidou’s story from their university days to Tian Peijun.
"His autism is cured, and you’re not going to seize the opportunity?"
Tian Peijun urged her on.
"Enough, enough! I really don’t feel that way about him!"
Jiang Yanxin was completely exasperated.
"Huh? It looks like your classmate is heading toward the back courtyard,"
Tian Peijun said suddenly, a hint of surprise in her voice.
"Ah?"
Jiang Yanxin followed Tian Peijun’s gaze and indeed saw Yi Beidou’s figure walking toward the entrance of the temple’s back courtyard.
"He’s not here to ask for a fortune slip, is he?"
Tian Peijun asked doubtfully.
"It’s possible. I heard his family is quite influential. But he might just be curious and going to take a look."
Jiang Yanxin said.
"The way he’s walking straight there... it doesn’t look like he’s just browsing. He has a clear goal. I get it! His autism being cured must have something to do with a master at Bao Lian Temple."
Tian Peijun felt like she had uncovered the truth.
"That sounds a little far-fetched."
Jiang Yanxin shook her head.
"Come on, let’s go over there too. We’ll find out what’s going on."
Tian Peijun pulled Jiang Yanxin toward the back courtyard.
Soon, however, they froze in place, their eyes wide and their mouths slightly agape.
They saw Yi Beidou standing before the back courtyard gate. Several tall monks seemed to be shouting at him, trying to make him leave.
Yi Beidou ignored their warnings and continued forward. The guard monks immediately raised their weapons, preparing to expel him by force.
Then they watched as Yi Beidou swung his palm, sending the guard monks crashing to the ground, one by one, with a single slap each.
The crowd of tourists near the back courtyard descended into a panicked, noisy chaos. Yi Beidou paid them no mind, continuing to stride forward before striking the heavy mahogany door with his palm.
The mahogany door burst open with a BOOM, and he stepped into the back courtyard, his figure vanishing from sight.
Tian Peijun and Jiang Yanxin witnessed the entire scene, standing stunned and speechless for a long time.
"Your classmate... what the hell is wrong with him?! Does he have a death wish?!"
After a long moment, Tian Peijun finally took a deep breath and asked.
This is Siam! Not our home country!
Causing trouble back home might land you in jail at worst, but here, it’s perfectly normal for people to just vanish without a trace.
And what’s more, this is the Great Bao Lian Temple!
"I don’t know either... Let’s go take a look!"
Hearing Tian Peijun’s words, Jiang Yanxin also realized the gravity of the situation, and a panicked look appeared on her face.
They had been classmates, after all. She didn’t want anything to happen to Yi Beidou.
"We can go check it out, but you have to listen to me. You can’t just act recklessly in a place like this!"
Tian Peijun said sternly, grabbing Jiang Yanxin’s arm.
「Elsewhere.」
The back courtyard of the Great Bao Lian Temple.
In a tea room outside one of the main halls.
The secretive celebrity Jiang Yanxin had seen earlier, accompanied by her assistant, had been led by a monk to the tea room. She had now removed her sunglasses and mask, revealing an exquisite face.
A monk pushed open the door to the tea room and invited the celebrity inside. She frowned slightly, because the room was already filled with people.
Among them were some familiar faces—well-known socialites and bosses from her home country.
"Well now, Ms. Zhou is here too. Come, have a seat over here?"
A refined-looking middle-aged man stood up and said to Zhou Bailu with a smile.
"Ah, it’s Boss Zheng."
Zhou Bailu put on a polite smile. She had worked with this Boss Zheng a few times and was fairly familiar with him, so she didn’t refuse his invitation and sat down in the empty seat beside him.
"Boss Zheng, what’s the situation today? Why are so many people here? Is the master not seeing guests?"
Zhou Bailu asked Boss Zheng, a little confused.
"A big shot just arrived. I heard it’s the Third Prince of Siam, who came for an impromptu visit. The masters are still attending to him, so we’ll probably have to wait for a while."
Boss Zheng whispered to Zhou Bailu.
