Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 62: A Unilateral Cold War
The girl shivered and asked doubtfully, "A thousand times? Can you even do that?"
"We’ll know once we try." The boy’s lips curled into a smile that grew wider and wider, until his face twisted into a menacing grin.
Holly Winslow woke with a start to pitch-black darkness. Her mind went blank for a moment before she realized it had been a dream.
’I actually had *that* kind of... dream? And a thousand times?’
’So lewd.’
’It’s all that jerk Mortimer Quincy’s fault.’
Fuming, she grabbed her phone and blocked Scholar Quincy, then pulled the covers over her head to go back to sleep.
...
After the social night, even more boys than before started coming by Class 8 to catch a glimpse of Holly Winslow. She received more love letters, and some boys even sent her chocolates.
Some boys even cornered her at lunchtime, insisting she eat with them and refusing to let her leave.
But Holly Winslow had a temper. When she got annoyed enough, she’d throw the love letters and gifts on the ground right in front of them at the classroom door.
When Julian Carlton found out, he started standing guard at the classroom door after every class, daring anyone to come and ask his star student out!
All at once, the boys stopped coming for Holly Winslow.
Mortimer Quincy hadn’t been able to contact his wife for three days. His calls wouldn’t connect, and his countless texts went unanswered.
Based on his marital experience, he concluded that his wife had blocked him and unilaterally declared a cold war.
The pen in his hand tapped against the desk. ’What did I do wrong this time? Was the kiss too much?’
The chemistry teacher glanced at him several times. Seeing that Mortimer was still zoning out, he stopped the lecture. "Mortimer Quincy, what did I just say?"
The entire class immediately turned to look at Mortimer Quincy. Zeke Zane had a gloating expression on his face.
Mortimer Quincy snapped back to reality and calmly stood up. "Pig iron contains carbon. In the presence of rainwater, it can form a galvanic cell. Iron acts as the negative electrode, with the electrode reaction being: Fe→Fe2+ + 2e-."
"Mm." The chemistry teacher gestured for him to sit down and then resumed his lecture.
After school, Mortimer Quincy packed his bag, slung it over his shoulder, and headed to the gates of Jarton Second High to catch his wife.
Zeke Zane quickly called out to him. "Mortimer, where are you going? Didn’t we agree to go for karaoke this afternoon? Then there’s the class party tonight. Don’t you dare ditch us, man. It’s all been arranged."
Mortimer Quincy nodded. "You guys go ahead. I’m going to pick up my wife. I’ll be there in a bit." With that, he left.
Zeke Zane was speechless. "..."
’Damn, is having a girlfriend that big of a deal?!’
While Mortimer Quincy was waiting for Holly Winslow at the school gate, he had the misfortune of running into Wyatt Winslow again.
They locked eyes for a few seconds before Mortimer Quincy spoke politely, "Uncle Winslow." 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
Wyatt Winslow grunted in acknowledgment. His eyes fell on the bubble tea in Mortimer’s hand. "Get in the car and wait."
Mortimer Quincy got into the car and saw another cup of bubble tea sitting between the driver and passenger seats. "..."
’I feel like throwing this bubble tea out the window.’
Just then, Jarton Second High let out, and students began pouring out of the gates. Soon, Holly and her two friends appeared. After Holly Winslow and Iris Kensington said goodbye to Anna Willow, they walked over to Wyatt Winslow’s car.
Holly Winslow called out with a wide grin, "Dad, school’s out! Hehe, Dad, my score went up by more than ten points on the mock exam this time!"
"Good." Wyatt Winslow let them get in the car.
When she opened the back door and saw the boy inside, Holly Winslow froze for a second. Then, with a slight pout, she got in. "Ellie, you take the front seat."
Iris Kensington saw Mortimer Quincy too but didn’t seem surprised. She hopped into the front passenger seat and greeted Wyatt Winslow, "Uncle Winslow."
"Mm."
Wyatt Winslow glanced at the rearview mirror. The two in the back were sitting on opposite ends of the seat. He then started the car.
Mortimer Quincy scooted a little closer to Holly Winslow. After a quick glance at Wyatt Winslow in the driver’s seat, he whispered, "I was wrong."
’Doesn’t matter what it was, just admit fault first.’
Holly Winslow huffed. "And what exactly were you wrong about?"
Mortimer Quincy: "..."
"I was wrong about everything."
"You don’t even know what you did wrong."
Mortimer Quincy: "..."
"Please, my dear wife, enlighten me."
Holly Winslow huffed again, took out her phone, typed out a long message, and showed the screen to Mortimer Quincy.
Mortimer Quincy: "..."
’A thousand times?’
He raised an eyebrow. ’So, his wife thinks he’s quite... capable, huh.’
...
When they reached the entrance to the Andor Community, Mortimer Quincy and Holly Winslow got out. Iris Kensington had been dropped off a little earlier.
Mortimer Quincy looked at Wyatt Winslow’s stern face and gave a nervous cough. "Uncle Winslow."
Wyatt Winslow looked at him. Mortimer said, "Uncle Winslow, I’d like to take Holly out for dinner. Would that be all right?"
Wyatt Winslow frowned but agreed nonetheless. In a stern voice, he said, "Be back before eight o’clock."
"Okay." Mortimer Quincy breathed a silent sigh of relief.
Wyatt Winslow pulled 500 yuan from his wallet and handed it to Holly Winslow. "Call me if you need anything."
"Thanks, Dad! You’re the best!" Holly Winslow giggled, taking the 500 yuan and stuffing it into her pocket.
Since they were going out to eat, Wyatt Winslow didn’t head home, driving to the factory instead.
The two of them went home to drop off their schoolbags. Knowing it was a party for Mortimer Quincy’s class, Holly Winslow changed into a nicer outfit.
It wasn’t time for dinner yet, so the class was at a KTV. When the two of them arrived, a song was already in full swing, and whoever was singing was painfully off-key.
They pushed the door open and walked in. Everyone looked over. There were about ten people in the room, three of whom were girls, and one of them was Valerie Walsh.
Pantheon greeted her with great enthusiasm. "Cousin! Come on, come sing!"
"You guys sing, I’m not very good." Holly Winslow said, feigning modesty.
"It’s fine, it’s fine! None of us can sing either." Pantheon shoved the microphone into her hand.
Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy. He raised an eyebrow, reached out to pat her head, and said dotingly, "Go ahead and sing if you want. Your husband will pay for it later."
He said the last two words in a very low voice.
The moment she heard he was paying, Holly Winslow no longer held back. She selected an English song, found the beat, and began to sing, "Talk to me softly, there’s something in your eyes..."
She sang the English song fluently, her voice pleasant and smooth.
Pantheon clicked his tongue in admiration. "Mortimer, where’d you find a girl... I mean, a cousin like that? Hook me up with one too."
Mortimer Quincy lazily sat down. "In your dreams."
Pantheon: "..."
’Mortimer, are you even human?’
After finishing her song, Holly Winslow sat down next to Mortimer Quincy. The scoundrel stealthily took her hand in his.
After a while, one of the boys suggested a game of Truth or Dare. Everyone agreed, and they started spinning a bottle.
Holly Winslow had some bad luck and was chosen on the very first turn. The boys decided not to give her a hard time and let one of the girls ask the question. Valerie Walsh asked sweetly, "Holly, is there anyone you like?"
At sixteen or seventeen, that was the kind of topic everyone was most interested in. The room erupted in a chorus of teasing hoots. Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy and said, "Yes."
One of the boys grinned and joked, "Aw, man, guess I don’t have a chance anymore."
Mortimer Quincy shot him a cool glance.
Pantheon said, "You never even had a sliver of a chance! Hahaha! Quick, spin it."
On the second spin, the bottle landed on a boy, and the question got a bit more daring. Pantheon let out a mischievous laugh. "Have you ever kissed your girlfriend?"
The boy flushed slightly. "Yes."
The fifth spin landed on Mortimer Quincy. Pantheon and Zeke Zane exchanged a look, clearly ready to stir up some trouble.
Pantheon asked, "Truth or Dare?"
Mortimer Quincy said, "Truth."
"Everyone, step aside! I’ll ask this one!" Pantheon rubbed his hands together excitedly. "So, tell us, what did your first kiss with your girlfriend feel like?"
