Chapter 55: Chapter 55: My Husband for Everything

Holly Winslow let out an awkward cough. Sticking to the principle of ’deny everything unless caught red-handed,’ she said, "We were just square dancing. Oh, look at the time, I have to go brush my teeth." With that, she hung up on Mortimer Quincy.

Looking at the girl’s radiant smile on his phone’s screen saver, the boy’s long, slender finger tapped her picture on the head. "Wait ’til you get home, I’ll deal with you then, you little troublemaker." After speaking, a smirk played on his lips.

...

「Monday」

The weather was getting colder. To get the students more active, the school replaced the daily group calisthenics during second period with a run.

Halfway through the run, Holly Winslow’s stomach started to hurt. She clutched it, bending over slightly. Her period had started the night before.

Iris Kensington, who was behind her, noticed and whispered as she ran, "Holly, does your stomach hurt? You should ask the class president to let you sit out."

Anna Willow, who was in front of Holly, heard their voices and glanced back. "I’ll go tell the class president. Ellie, you help Holly back to the classroom."

"Okay." Iris Kensington helped Holly out of the line of runners. "Excuse us, please. Thanks."

Once they had gone, Anna Willow moved over to the boys’ line to ask Sean Hayes for permission for Holly to be excused. Afterward, she went to the school store to buy brown sugar.

「Classroom」

Iris Kensington filled a cup with hot water for Holly. "Holly, hold this against your stomach to warm it up."

Holly was already feeling much better. "Thanks, Ellie."

Iris Kensington pinched her cheek and said with a grin, "No ’thank yous’ allowed. We’re best friends."

Just then, Jared Zimmerman returned. He glanced at Holly, who was slumped over her desk, then quickly left again.

A moment later, Anna Willow returned, panting. "Holly, are you feeling any better?"

"Much better, Anna." When Holly saw the brown sugar in her hand, her heart warmed. "Thank you, Anna."

Anna Willow laughed and rolled her eyes at her. "Thank me for what? You should be calling me the best Anna in the world, hahaha."

"Anna, you’re so shameless," Iris Kensington said, poking her in the waist.

After drinking the hot brown sugar water, the pain in her stomach had mostly subsided.

Just then, Jared Zimmerman returned and handed her a fully charged electric hand warmer. "Here." With that, he went back to his seat and started playing a game on his phone.

Iris Kensington and Anna Willow exchanged a look and giggled mischievously. Anna whispered, "Holly, maybe you should just give in to him, hehe."

Holly gave her a gentle pinch. ’If I dared to cheat on him, that Mortimer Quincy fellow would probably tear me to shreds with his bare hands.’

’This was the one bad thing about school. Whenever a girl asked to be excused from running, everyone knew it was because of *that*.’

After class, Mina Shaw proactively got her some hot water, Sean Hayes erased the blackboard for her when it was her turn for cleaning duty, and Xavier Jennings bought her several packs of brown sugar.

During second period physics class that afternoon, Holly had a sinking feeling as soon as the lesson began that she had leaked. She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.

Now she was sure of it.

She was mortified. She was wearing light-colored jeans today.

Class was in session, so she couldn’t very well tell Anna Willow and Iris Kensington. While Julian Carlton was writing on the board, she stealthily took out her phone and sent a message to Mortimer Quincy: Hubby, I leaked in class. What do I do?

’Years of being with him, like a marriage, had taught her one simple rule: find her husband when there’s a problem, and find her husband when there isn’t one.’

’Every problem would be solved.’

Mortimer Quincy replied almost instantly: Hang on until class ends. Hubby is on his way.

The moment she read he was coming, Holly quickly replied: Don’t! I’ll just ask for leave after class and go back to my dorm.

Mortimer Quincy didn’t reply. He had PE that period, so he found the gym teacher and said he needed to leave because of a family emergency.

Teachers never questioned an excuse from a top student. They were fully confident that if he said there was a family emergency, there was a family emergency.

The gym teacher said kindly, "Go ahead. I’ll call the gate guard for you right now."

"Thank you, sir."

Mortimer Quincy left the school grounds and immediately hailed a taxi. "To the nearest mall, please."

"You got it."

The driver nodded. Once they arrived at the mall, Mortimer went straight to a women’s apparel store on the fourth floor. Enduring the salesclerk’s surprised and flustered stare, he picked out two pairs of women’s underwear and paid for them.

...

Holly felt like this class was lasting an eternity. As she kept her head down, pretending to take notes, her mind raced, trying to figure out how she could stand up after class without anyone noticing she had leaked.

In the last few minutes of class, the room grew noisy as students began murmuring about something.

Holly glanced toward the window and saw Mortimer Quincy, dressed in a thick, black trench coat. He made a reassuring gesture to her, telling her not to worry, and much of her acute embarrassment faded away.

Julian Carlton saw Mortimer too. He smiled at the class and said, "I understand the desire to look at a handsome guy, but please, just bear with me for a few more minutes. Physics problems can be quite handsome in their own way, you know."

The whole class couldn’t help but laugh.

After class, Julian Carlton stepped out of the room and saw the bag Mortimer Quincy was holding. "Ah, Mortimer, bringing some clothes for Holly?"

"Yes, Mr. Carlton," Mortimer replied politely.

"Go on in." Julian Carlton left, book in hand.

Mortimer knocked politely on the classroom door before entering. He first spoke politely to Sean Hayes, "Hi, could I get by for a moment? Thanks."

Sean Hayes nodded and stepped aside. Mortimer took a long, black padded coat from the bag. In his magnetic voice, he said, "Weren’t you cold? Put this on."

A girl in the class whispered, "Oh my God, he’s so handsome."

Holly took off her short jacket and put on the long coat. Then she looked at Mortimer and blinked.

Mortimer knew she was referring to the chair. He took a seat cushion out of the bag for her. "Sit on this. It’ll be warmer."

Once all that was done, Holly could finally breathe a sigh of relief.

The two of them left the classroom and headed toward the dorms. Many girls stared at Mortimer along the way.

Wrapped in the long coat, Holly looked up at the boy beside her, her eyes shining brightly, and whispered flatteringly, "Hubby, you’re the best."

"Good enough to go square dancing?" Mortimer looked at her, raising an eyebrow.

Holly: "..."

’She took back her previous statement.’

She spoke to the dorm mom, who glanced at her and then at Mortimer. "No boys allowed inside."

Mortimer handed the bag to Holly. "I bought you everything you need to change."

Holly took the bag, nodded, and tugged on his sleeve. "Will you wait for me? I’ll be down really quick."

"I’ll wait. No rush. Put your dirty clothes in the bag for me; I’ll take them home to wash."

After she left, Mortimer took out his phone to check a message from Zeke Zane, who was asking if everything was okay and if he needed any help.

He replied that everything was fine and had already been taken care of.

A few minutes later, Holly came back down. She had changed into a pair of black pants, and the combination with the long black coat made her look especially small.

She handed the bag of dirty clothes to Mortimer. "Don’t scrub the pants, okay?"

"Okay."

Mortimer took the bag and reached out to stroke her head. "Does your stomach still hurt?"

"It doesn’t hurt anymore. It just hurt for a little while this morning." Holly remembered something and pulled a red apple from her coat pocket, handing it to him. "A reward for my hubby."

Mortimer laughed and took it, his eyes fixed on her lips. "Hubby wants a kiss."

Holly glanced around. Seeing no one, she stood on her tiptoes and gave him a quick kiss. The dorm mom emerged from her small office and gave a pointed cough, but said nothing more.

She had seen it all before.

’Kids these days.’

Holly’s face flushed red. She grabbed Mortimer’s hand and ran off.
