Holly Winslow’s mind went blank. What did this have to do with Xavier Jennings?
’Wasn’t it Scholar Quincy?’
When she finally processed it, she let out a soft "Huh?" Looking at Julian Carlton’s face, she opened her mouth to say something but couldn’t make a sound.
’Why did I just shake my head? Didn’t I just indirectly admit to being in a relationship!’
’How am I supposed to explain this to Mr. Carlton now?’
’If I say it wasn’t Xavier Jennings, he’ll definitely ask who it was.’
’The "crime" of me being in a relationship is already a foregone conclusion.’
’I need to drink some milk tea to calm my nerves.’
After struggling for half a minute, she took a deep breath and prepared to explain. "Mr. Carlton, I..."
A voice cut her off. "Mr. Carlton, I need to see you about something."
Jared Zimmerman walked over, one hand stuffed in his pocket. He had probably just woken up; the left side of his face was still red from being pressed against something.
He was the one student Julian Carlton didn’t bother disciplining, because he couldn’t, and it wasn’t worth the trouble.
Jared Zimmerman’s parents worked for the Education Bureau. Not just the teachers, but even the principal had to be polite to him.
Julian Carlton had no choice but to say to Holly Winslow, "Holly, you can go back to the classroom. Study hard. I believe in you."
After he said that, he looked at Jared Zimmerman’s hair, which was already reaching his eyebrows. "Your hair is too long. Get it cut this week."
Jared Zimmerman grunted in acknowledgment, then raised an eyebrow at Holly Winslow, who was still standing there.
Holly Winslow stood there for a few seconds before turning and heading into the classroom.
Anna Willow and Iris Kensington immediately flanked her. The three of them stood in the aisle as Anna asked worriedly, "Holly, are you okay?"
Iris Kensington looked just as worried.
"I’m fine." Holly Winslow shook her head.
Anna Willow let out a sigh of relief, then said angrily, indignant on her friend’s behalf, "Who’s such a bitch, making false reports? It’s not even true."
Right after the lunch break, word got out that Holly Winslow and Xavier Jennings had been reported to the Dean of Students for being in a relationship.
"Someone reported me?" Holly Winslow paused, stunned.
No wonder. She had been wondering how the rumor about her being in a relationship had suddenly started.
"Holly, you didn’t know? Someone reported you and Xavier Jennings to the Dean of Students, and that’s why he went to our head teacher," Iris Kensington whispered.
Holly Winslow understood now that someone was targeting her. She glanced around the classroom. Most of her classmates were looking in their direction, their faces full of gossip. When her eyes met theirs, they all looked away.
She never understood where the hostility from some of her classmates came from.
She pressed her lips together. A few seconds later, she bent down, took out the milk teas, and handed them to Anna Willow and Iris Kensington. "Your Uncle Winslow bought them."
Iris Kensington had known her since middle school and could tell she wasn’t in a good mood. She reached out and rubbed her back comfortingly. "Holly, did Uncle Winslow scold you?"
"Of course not. Your Uncle Winslow is very gentle."
Holly Winslow smiled and pinched Iris Kensington’s cheek, adding playfully, "Ellie, you’ve gained weight again. Your face is so chubby."
Iris Kensington had been wailing just that morning because she couldn’t fit into her jeans. Hearing this, her face fell. She stomped her foot. "Holly, I’m not friends with you anymore."
"Ellie, you have to bravely face the fact that you’re gaining weight," Anna Willow joined Holly Winslow in teasing her, patting her on the shoulder.
"Friendship over for ten minutes." Iris Kensington marched off with her milk tea, pretending to be angry.
A few seconds later, the bell rang for class. This period was also physics, and Julian Carlton continued his lecture from the previous class.
Holly Winslow was taking notes when a scratchpad was suddenly passed to her from the side. On it was a line of elegant handwriting: *You okay?*
She turned her head to look at Mina Shaw, gave her a small smile, and whispered, "I’m fine, thanks." Then she handed the scratchpad back to her.
Julian Carlton glanced at the two of them, assuming they were discussing a problem they didn’t understand. "Some of you might not have gotten that, so I’ll go over this problem one more time. Listen carefully, now. This type of question has appeared on the college entrance exams in previous years."
