Reborn with My Genius Husband-Chapter 153: Which Bastard Reported Me
"Thank you, ma’am."
After the woman left, Holly Winslow looked through the snacks. It seemed the woman hadn’t known what she liked, so she had brought a little bit of everything. Among them was a package of pickled chicken feet.
Her eyes lit up. She wasn’t sure what year the rumor about chicken feet being soaked in formalin had started, but ever since, Wyatt Winslow hadn’t allowed her to eat them.
After she started dating Mortimer Quincy, he wouldn’t let her eat them either.
’Pickled chicken feet are actually really good.’
Because Holly Winslow was in the office, Wyatt Winslow glanced at his watch. Half an hour had already passed.
He said a word to the workers, then returned to the office to check on Holly Winslow. She was gnawing on a chicken foot while doing her homework.
He frowned, his tone slightly stern. "Stop eating that. It’s not good for you."
Holly Winslow jumped in surprise, then sheepishly put down the half-empty package of chicken feet.
Wyatt Winslow walked over, threw the chicken feet into the trash can, and looked through the other snacks. There were no more.
They got off work at six. On the way home, the two of them stopped by the wet market, where Wyatt Winslow bought several pounds of chicken feet and some pickled chili peppers.
When they got home, Wyatt Winslow told Holly Winslow to do her homework while he busied himself in the kitchen.
He had never made pickled chili chicken feet before, so he took out his phone to look it up online.
Holly Winslow had already done a lot of worksheets at school; those two chemistry worksheets were her last bit of homework.
She opened the kitchen door. "Dad, let me help you."
"No need."
Wyatt Winslow turned off his phone, slipped it back into his pocket, and started washing the chicken feet. Seeing her come over, he pursed his lips. "Go buy a bag of salt."
Holly Winslow glanced at the salt canister, which was still more than half full. She was a bit baffled but nodded anyway. "Okay. Iodized salt?"
"Mhm. The wallet’s on the sofa," Wyatt Winslow nodded.
"I have money. I still haven’t used the six hundred you gave me," Holly Winslow said with a giggle.
Hearing the front door close, Wyatt Winslow took out his phone again. After a few minutes, he had a clear understanding of the steps and went back to washing the chicken feet.
...
From a distance, Mortimer Quincy saw the girl tearing the wrapper off an ice cream bar in front of a small convenience store, something tucked under her arm.
She took a bite, her eyes squinting in pleasure.
He raised an eyebrow and quickened his pace to follow her. As he got close, he leaned forward. "Sneaking a snack again?"
The sudden voice made Holly Winslow jump. Her hand trembled, and the ice cream bar fell to the ground. "..."
She glared at the culprit and held out her hand. "You owe me! Two of them."
Mortimer Quincy bent down, picked up the fallen ice cream bar, and tossed it into a trash can. Then he took her hand, his voice fond. "Come on."
But he only let her take one. "I’ll owe you the other."
Holly Winslow took a bite of her new ice cream bar before replying, "I’m writing this down in my notebook when I get home. Don’t even think about going back on your word."
"When have I ever gone back on my word?" Mortimer Quincy couldn’t resist pinching her cheek.
Holly Winslow just hmphed.
He walked her to her door. Mortimer Quincy gestured with his chin for her to go inside. Holly Winslow waved and mouthed, "Bye-bye, honey."
That bold scoundrel Mortimer Quincy, knowing full well her father was home, kissed her right there at the door.
...
The pickled chicken feet needed to soak for two hours, so they’d have to wait until the next morning to be eaten.
After dinner, Wyatt Winslow and Holly Winslow both sat on the sofa, one watching TV and the other reading the newspaper. At nine o’clock, they each went to their respective bedrooms.
Just as Wyatt Winslow was about to enter his room, Holly Winslow suddenly called out, "Dad."
Wyatt Winslow turned to look at her. Before he could say anything, she added with a wide smile, "Good night, Dad." With that, she blew him a kiss and shut her bedroom door.
Wyatt Winslow chuckled softly. He stood there for a dozen seconds before opening his own door and going inside.
...
When Holly Winslow woke up in the morning, Wyatt Winslow had already left for the factory. He’d said they were rushing to finish a big order.
After breakfast, she called Iris Kensington to see if she was ready. Once Iris said she was, Holly headed out. 𝕗𝚛𝚎𝚎𝐰𝗲𝗯𝗻𝚘𝚟𝚎𝗹.𝕔𝐨𝕞
Iris Kensington was already ready.
Holly Winslow habitually sent Mortimer Quincy her itinerary for the day, then started to change. When she went downstairs, she found Mortimer Quincy standing under a tree.
"What are you doing here?" she asked as she walked over.
Mortimer Quincy dangled a set of car keys. "Your free chauffeur."
"Let’s go then, my free chauffeur."
Holly Winslow couldn’t help but smile. She linked her arm with his and added, "Behave yourself later. Anna’s mom is home."
"Your cousin knows the rules," Mortimer Quincy said, then leaned down and gave her a kiss.
Holly Winslow glanced around. Seeing no one but a group of six- and seven-year-old kids, she glared at Mortimer Quincy. "I told you not to kiss me in the neighborhood."
"It was my lips’ fault, not mine. I can’t control them." Mortimer Quincy took her small black bag and slung it over his own shoulder.
Holly Winslow was speechless.
’Such a show-off.’
When they reached the spot where they were meeting Iris Kensington, Holly realized she wasn’t the only one who had brought her "cousin."
She and Iris Kensington exchanged a look, and both burst out laughing. In unison, they greeted Mortimer Quincy and Chris Chaucer, "Hi, Cousin!" After saying it, the two girls linked arms, bent over with laughter.
Iris Kensington had been inspired by Holly Winslow and had started calling Chris Chaucer her cousin whenever they were out. And you know what? It was a great idea.
Last time, an old woman had even said she and Chris Chaucer looked alike.
Chris Chaucer still didn’t know that Mortimer Quincy was Holly Winslow’s boyfriend. Iris Kensington was very loyal to the bestie code and hadn’t revealed a thing.
He said politely, "Hello, I’m Chris Chaucer."
"Hello, Mortimer Quincy," Mortimer Quincy replied.
The four of them got into a small black car. Mortimer Quincy was in the driver’s seat, and Holly Winslow was in the passenger seat.
Iris Kensington and Chris Chaucer sat in the back.
They arrived at the Willow Family’s home half an hour later. Brian Willow opened the door for them. He glanced at Holly Winslow, who was wearing a thick blue sweater with a white collar, then stepped aside to let them in.
Hearing the commotion, Anna Willow ran over from the sofa and threw herself at Holly Winslow and Iris Kensington. In a tone of someone who’d just been "liberated," she cried, "You’re finally here!"
After her excited greeting, she looked at Mortimer Quincy and Chris Chaucer. "Cousin, Chris."
Anna Willow’s mom gestured for them to sit down, all the while scolding Anna, "You’re less like a girl every day. Why can’t you learn from Ellie and Holly and be a little more gentle?"
Anna Willow pouted but didn’t dare talk back.
Brian Willow brought them some water and then sat down next to Chris Chaucer.
It was the first time Anna Willow’s mother had met Mortimer Quincy. She sized him up for a few moments. "Holly, is this your cousin? He looks so sharp."
Anna Willow corrected her mom’s old-fashioned phrasing. "Mom, the word is ’handsome,’ not ’sharp.’ ’Sharp’ sounds so weird."
"Mind your own business. You’re just like your father, always talking so much," Anna Willow’s mother said, glaring at her.
Holly Winslow couldn’t help but smile. The atmosphere in the Willow Family’s home was always pretty relaxed, which was one reason she didn’t worry too much about Anna Willow.
She replied, "Mhm, he’s my cousin."
Mortimer Quincy said politely, "Hello, ma’am. I’m Mortimer Quincy."
"Mortimer Quincy? Weren’t you on TV with Holly?" The more Anna Willow’s mom looked at him, the more familiar he seemed.
Parents with high schoolers tended to pay at least some attention to these things.
Anna Willow felt her mom was being way too nosy and grumbled, "Mom, are you running a background check on him?"
Holly Winslow and Iris Kensington couldn’t hold it in and burst out laughing.
Anna Willow’s mom stayed for a few more minutes before heading out to play mahjong, leaving the house to the young people.
When the cat’s away, the mice will play. The moment her mom was gone, Anna Willow—completely ignoring that her brother was still there—started airing her grievances. "Which asshole reported me? Now I have no personal freedom at all!"
Holly Winslow glanced at Mortimer Quincy, but the scoundrel was as calm as ever, as if the word "asshole" had nothing to do with him.
