Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 96: My Husband Asked Me a Weird Question
"What do you think?" I asked my cats while twirling in front of the mirror, checking myself out in the dragon costume.
People in my comment section had gone completely wild. Every time I uploaded a new video, they’d flood the comments with, "Where’s the dragon?" or "Dragon! We need the dragon!"
I seriously didn’t get it. It was just a dragon costume!
"Meow!" Lingo was the first to respond. I looked down and grinned. "Mommy looks beautiful? Oh my God, thank you!"
I was about to start recording the video when I suddenly heard a knock on the door. Without taking off my costume, I quickly walked over, not expecting to see Lando standing there.
"Oh?" He looked a little startled, probably wondering why on earth I was wearing a dragon costume when Halloween was still so far away. "What are you doing?"
"I’m filming a video!" I said with a big grin. "My Zentra account hit a milestone, so I want to do something special for my followers."
Honestly, my account had reached 100k followers this morning, and people were slowly starting to recognize me as Madeline’s sister. But since I never replied to any of those comments, they were still unsure.
"Do you need something?" I asked with a friendly smile.
Lando took a deep breath, suddenly looking flustered. Did my dragon costume make him lose focus and forget what he wanted to say?
But it looked cute on me, so it shouldn’t distract him that much... right?
[Ding! Ding!]
[Random Quest!]
[Quest: Say ’YES’ to your HUSBAND’s request!]
[Reward: $33,000]
[Time Limit: 30 minutes.]
What?! How was I supposed to say "YES" blindly when I didn’t even know what he was going to ask me?!
What if he asked me to strip in front of him? No way, he wouldn’t ask for something that shameless.
"I want to talk about our conversation at the park earlier," he said, sounding nervous. He even unbuttoned his collar like he needed to breathe.
What did we talk about that made him so tense? Did I say something wrong without realizing it?
"About what?" I asked, frowning a little. "Did I do something bad?"
"No, you didn’t, or maybe you did." Lando pressed his lips together and closed his eyes for a moment before opening them again, his gaze deepening as he looked at me. "I don’t want to be your friend."
I gasped in shock, freezing the moment I heard his words. He didn’t want to be my friend? Why? Why didn’t he want to be my friend?!
"D-did I annoy you too much?" I grabbed his sleeve in panic. "I’ll talk less if that’s what bothers you, I promise! But please... don’t abandon me. I don’t have any other friends. Sure, Henry and Marissa are nice, but still... who else would listen to my rants if not you?"
I wasn’t even sure when it happened, but somewhere along the way, Lando had become the first person I turned to whenever I felt stressed or lonely.
I even messaged him before my audition. If he suddenly wanted to end our friendship, then who would I talk to when I got nervous during the second round?
"No, it’s not like that!" Lando quickly reached out and grabbed my hands, holding them tightly. "I won’t abandon you."
I blinked a few times, tilting my head in confusion. "Then... what did you mean when you said you didn’t want to be my friend anymore?"
"It means..." He took a few deep breaths, his chest rising and falling before he finally said, "I don’t want to be your friend because I want you to see me as your husband."
I stared at him in silence, suddenly not knowing what to say. The kittens jumped off the vanity table and started wandering around my feet, but even their cuteness couldn’t pull my focus away from Lando.
"But... I already call you my husband, don’t I?" I asked softly.
"Yes." Lando nodded. "Yes, you do. But you still keep saying we’re just friends, and... I don’t like that."
"But I thought... you wouldn’t like it if I called us a real husband and wife." I lowered my gaze, my voice barely above a whisper. "I just didn’t want to make you uncomfortable since our relationship started from an arranged marriage."
Besides, what’s really the difference between being friends and being husband and wife? It’s not like we’ve ever done anything couples usually do, other than holding hands.
"I was uncomfortable at first," he finally admitted. "But now... every time you call me your friend, it just feels wrong. Helcia, I know you might think it doesn’t make much of a difference, but if you saw me as your husband, there are so many things I could do for you."
I blurted out without thinking, "Having sex?"
He froze for a moment, taking a slow breath before answering. "No." His eyes locked onto mine. "That’s not the only thing a husband can do."
He continued, his voice softer now, almost hesitant. "A husband is supposed to make his wife feel safe. He’s the person who stands by her when she’s scared, listens when she’s upset, and protects her even when she doesn’t ask for it."
My heart beat faster in my chest as I listened to him.
"I don’t just want to be someone you talk to when you’re sad, Helcia," he said softly. "I want to share those moments with you; the good ones and the bad ones. Sure, friends can do that too, but sometimes... there are things you can only tell your partner. And I want to be that person for you."
We both fell silent for a moment. I didn’t know what to say because my mind suddenly went completely blank.
Then, out of nowhere, he lifted my hands and brought them to his lips, pressing a soft kiss on the back of them.
"Helcia," he said softly. "Maybe I’m a little late to ask this, but..." He took a deep breath, his eyes never once leaving mine. "Will you be my wife?"
