Reborn With a Money-Making System: Ruined Actress to Nation's Treasure-Chapter 88: Practicing Those Cheesy Lines (1)
In the end, Henry didn’t let me drive the golf cart because it was already late, and he was afraid I’d crash into something in the dark.
When we arrived at the manor, Lando told me he’d let me know if he found more information about my past case. He also said it could serve as strong evidence to bring down the Davenport family if they were truly involved.
"Thank you, husband." I bent down to meet his eyes, smiling. "You really made me feel better."
"It’s nothing," Lando said softly. Then he added, "You also made me feel better today. Thank you."
I smiled brightly at his words, and after wishing each other good night, we went back to our own rooms.
By then, all the tears and heavy thoughts I’d carried throughout the day had drained me completely. The moment my head hit the pillow, I fell into a deep sleep.
When morning came, the first thing that greeted me was Penny’s loud voice. 𝚏𝗿𝗲𝐞𝚠𝕖𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝕖𝚕.𝚌𝗼𝗺
[Congratulations, Host! You have successfully completed your mission: Find the illegal site you saw in the past with Lando!]
[Reward: $40,000 has been credited to your account.]
[Remaining Balance: $220,915]
I groaned softly, pressing a hand to my head that throbbed from her voice.
"That was last night’s quest. Why are you only announcing it now?" I mumbled, pulling the blanket over my face and shutting my eyes again.
[Penny didn’t want to ruin your moment with Lando last night, so Penny decided to delay the announcement.]
I muttered under my breath, "Oh, you’re kind of cute."
But I immediately took it back when she suddenly screamed so loud it made me jump.
[Host! Host! Marissa just sent you the details for your next audition!]
[Get up now and do your best!!]
I groaned again and shoved a pillow over my face, hoping it would block her voice, but it was useless since her voice came from inside my head.
"Okay! Okay! I’m getting up!" I grumbled, sitting up and rubbing my face roughly to wake myself up.
I grabbed my phone and checked the message from Marissa.
[Marissa: Helcia, I’ve already registered you for the audition, and I also got some inside info on what the producer will most likely look for when choosing the cast.]
For The Love Beneath the White Umbrella, the producer was looking for a young woman with natural beauty and eyes that still held a spark of youth.
It actually made sense. They probably wouldn’t use much makeup since the story was set in high school, and let’s be honest, eyes that looked like they’d been through war and paying taxes definitely wouldn’t fit a teenage girl.
Well, I did have natural beauty, and as for the "youthful gaze" ... I could pull that off.
On the other hand, for the series My Boss’ Obsession, they were looking for an actress who could still look attractive and sexy even while dressed like a nerd, since I would be auditioning for the role of the male lead’s secretary, and his mistress.
Well, well, well. Who would’ve guessed I’d end up playing characters that were basically Helcia and Lando’s mothers?
It sounded fun ... or maybe a total nightmare.
[The audition for My Boss’ Obsession will be held next week, so you can focus on the Green Leaf Production series first, Host.]
Like I said before, the schedule was way too tight, and so was Penny’s quest deadline.
[There’s no such thing as impossible, Host!]
[As long as you believe you can do it, then you can do it!]
That used to be my motto too, though I still ended up dying anyway.
But no! Penny was right! I couldn’t let negativity swallow me up this early in the day.
So I told Marissa I’d start studying the scripts for both dramas soon and might send her a practice audition tape later.
"Alright, let’s do this!"
Once I had a goal for the day, I immediately felt a surge of energy.
As usual, Lando had already left before sunrise, so I ate breakfast alone. At least that made it easier to finish quickly. After that, I went outside to get some fresh air and read the printed script in my hands.
"The dialogues are kind of cheesy," I complained to my cats, Lingo and Lira, who were lounging beside me in the garden. But every time I looked at their cute little faces, I remembered something horrifying; I still hadn’t sent the video of me wearing the dragon costume to my followers.
Why the hell did I promise something like that anyway?!
I sighed and shook my head, forcing myself to focus again on the overly romantic lines in the script. Marissa had told me to go for the female lead role since it wasn’t too complicated for a rookie like me.
Marissa had a point, actually.
The female lead was basically a sweet, kind-hearted girl who had been bullied by the male lead since they were in elementary school.
Yes, that was really the plot. I still got goosebumps every time I thought about it.
I thought The Love Beneath the White Umbrella would be a story about pure love, but apparently, the "white umbrella" was just a symbol of the female lead’s pure heart, trying desperately to shield itself from the storm ... or more accurately, from the male lead’s awful behavior.
How the hell could anyone forgive someone who bullied her that badly?!
If that were me, I’d probably marry him just so I could chop off his dick once the wedding was over.
[Host, you can’t act that fierce if you want to play her character properly.]
I let out a long sigh. "Of course, I know that." I added, "I’ve played so many characters before, this one isn’t even the worst."
I started pacing around the garden, reading through the entire script first so I could get a better grasp of the character’s personality.
However, the more I read, the more convinced I became that this female lead had zero survival instincts, even Helcia was better than her!
