Reborn to Outshine My Ex and His White Moonlight-Chapter 385 Did I Say That?
Chapter 385: Chapter 385 Did I Say That?
Lin Zhiyi glared at Li Huan.
Li Huan chuckled, "Please, just treat it as helping me out, will you? He hasn’t even been willing to take his medicine lately."
Lin Zhiyi took a deep breath. Considering how Li Huan had helped her before, she still agreed.
"Where should we do it?"
"There’s a place nearby we can go. Wait for me."
Li Huan went to get the car, while Lin Zhiyi sent a message to Sang Li.
"I’m catching up with Li Huan. You go ahead first."
"Alright."
Shortly after, Lin Zhiyi got into Li Huan’s car, and they stopped along the way to pick up some necessary ingredients.
Li Huan, who often had to work night shifts, had bought a small apartment near the hospital.
About ten minutes later, the two of them arrived at the apartment.
Opening the door, what came into view was a clean and tidy room, along with... Chen Jin?
"Assistant Chen? What are you doing here?" Lin Zhiyi asked in surprise.
"He stayed here last night," Li Huan said, opening a cabinet and handing Lin Zhiyi a pair of disposable slippers.
Lin Zhiyi’s gaze darted between the two of them. "Huh?"
Chen Jin explained, "He had a night shift yesterday."
"You sure know a lot," Lin Zhiyi muttered.
Chen Jin remained silent, surprised by how much Lin Zhiyi seemed to understand.
Li Huan looked perplexed as he glanced between them and asked, "What’s going on? Aren’t we going in?"
Lin Zhiyi spoke cautiously, "I hope I’m not disturbing you?"
"Not at all," Li Huan replied while pouring some water. "Miss Sang’s mood has been quite erratic after her surgery. She insisted on having the Third Young Master by her side. So, the Third Young Master and Assistant Chen only had time to come here for a nap before rushing back to work at the company."
"Assistant Chen is here today to help the Third Young Master pack his things."
Li Huan gestured towards the bag in Chen Jin’s hand as he spoke.
"Oh."
Lin Zhiyi glanced at the two of them with a hint of awkwardness.
Li Huan paused his pouring, then raised an eyebrow and said, "What are you imagining?"
Lin Zhiyi quickly changed the topic, "Can you find me a large pot? I need to wash the ingredients first."
Hearing this, Chen Jin looked at the two of them, puzzled.
Li Huan explained bluntly, "I asked her to come over and help make some loquat leaf water."
Chen Jin immediately understood who the loquat leaf water was for.
Seeing Lin Zhiyi’s injured hand, he rolled up his own sleeves. "Let me help."
Li Huan turned and said, "I’ll use the restroom. You two start preparing the ingredients."
Soon, only Lin Zhiyi and Chen Jin remained in the kitchen.
Chen Jin lowered his head and began washing the loquat leaves. His voice was calm as he said, "It seems like you’re the only one who remembers that this drink works for him."
"It’s not a big deal," Lin Zhiyi replied casually.
"Miss Sang demanded he stay by her side all night, and he caught a cold because of it. Plus, the company’s workload in the first half of the year has been overwhelming..."
"Oh."
Lin Zhiyi interrupted him.
Chen Jin wasn’t usually talkative. Now that he had said so much, Lin Zhiyi knew what he had in mind.
"Don’t misunderstand. It was Li Huan who asked me to come. I’ve written down the method; I’ll send it over to you later. As for the smoking and drinking, I can’t control that. If he wants to destroy his health, no one can stop him."
Lin Zhiyi’s indifferent tone made Chen Jin inexplicably irritated, causing him to accidentally tear a loquat leaf.
Seeing this, Lin Zhiyi grabbed the torn leaf and tossed it into the trash can.
"If it’s no good, it should be thrown away."
"..." Chen Jin fell silent.
When Li Huan returned, he found the atmosphere even more tense. Quickly, he pulled out the biggest pot he could find to divert their attention.
"Will this pot work?"
"Yes," Lin Zhiyi nodded.
After boiling a large pot of water, all that remained was enough to fill a thermos.
Lin Zhiyi placed the thermos aside and said calmly, "I’m heading back now."
"Miss Lin."
Chen Jin suddenly walked towards Lin Zhiyi, the scent of his body wash lingering in the air.
The faint fragrance was an ordinary one, yet Lin Zhiyi, being pregnant, had become overly sensitive to smells. A scent she would normally find pleasant now felt worse than gasoline.
"Ugh."
She dry-heaved and ran to the restroom to vomit.
When she returned, Li Huan and Chen Jin were standing in the living room, staring blankly at her.
Chen Jin was the first to approach. "What’s wrong? The stomach medicine the Third Young Master bought for you is top-notch. There’s no way it should still be affecting you."
Faced with his suspicion, Lin Zhiyi knew what he might be thinking.
As Gong Chen’s personal assistant, Chen Jin would undoubtedly be aware of what had happened at the engagement party.
Lin Zhiyi felt her stomach churn again. She swallowed tightly to suppress it.
"It got worse after my mom’s accident. I forgot to take the medicine consistently," she replied.
"Is that so?"
Chen Jin leaned closer to Lin Zhiyi, as if deliberately letting her catch a whiff of his scent.
Lin Zhiyi gritted her teeth and endured it, then raised her gaze to meet Chen Jin’s with composure.
Chen Jin frowned deeply but eventually stepped back politely.
"Sorry, Miss Lin."
"It’s fine."
Just as Lin Zhiyi was about to breathe a sigh of relief, she noticed Li Huan fixating on her without blinking.
Suddenly, she felt rooted to the spot, unable to move.
Chen Jin being single and unfamiliar with pregnancy might make him easier to fool, but Li Huan was a doctor.
Even if his specialty wasn’t obstetrics, he should at least know the basics.
Li Huan’s gaze slowly shifted downward as he stared at Lin Zhiyi.
He had analyzed the blood sample from the day of Gong Chen’s engagement. The concentration of hallucinogens was exceedingly high—Ye Feifei had clearly gone to great lengths.
No one would have been able to resist its effects.
So...
Lin Zhiyi interrupted quickly, "Li Huan, I know what you want to say. Don’t worry. Once I’m abroad, I’ll continue treatment for my hand. The school environment is beautiful—it’s perfect for recovery and learning. I genuinely like it."
So, don’t overthink and don’t say anything.
Her words were clear enough for Li Huan to understand her meaning.
He offered a blessing, "Safe travels."
"Thank you. Goodbye."
Lin Zhiyi grabbed her bag and left without hesitation.
After hearing the door close, Chen Jin gave Li Huan a hesitant look.
"Last time she saw soup dumplings, she almost vomited too. Don’t you think..."
"It’s clearly anxiety-induced stomach spasms. She needs careful nurturing to recover. With everything that’s happened, and with Second Madam almost being jailed, it’s understandable her condition worsened." Li Huan patted Chen Jin’s shoulder before adding, "Take the loquat leaf water to the Third Young Master. Tell him to drink less alcohol and smoke less."
Hearing this, Chen Jin stopped speculating and grabbed the thermos from the table.
"I’m off."
Li Huan nodded and moved to the balcony, looking down at Lin Zhiyi departing below. He let out a heavy sigh.
...
At Gong Mansion.
Gong Chen had just settled Sang Ran in and was preparing to leave.
Sang Ran clung to his arm desperately. "Third Young Master, could you stay tonight?"
"I have a cold. It’s not convenient," Gong Chen said impassively.
"Are you angry because of what I said to Zhiyi at the hospital?"
"..."
Gong Chen remained silent.
"Just one night! I’m begging you!"
Sang Ran gripped his sleeve tightly, making it difficult for him to leave.
In the next moment, Gong Chen didn’t even spare her a glance as he forcibly freed his arm, not offering a single explanation before leaving the room.
As the door closed, Chen Jin arrived upstairs carrying the thermos.
"Third Young Master, this is... the cough remedy Li Huan cooked. Drink it while it’s warm."
"Alright."
Gong Chen turned and entered his study, intending to retrieve some documents before heading out.
Just as he sat down, Chen Jin began pouring the remedy out.
A delicate fragrance filled the air, prompting Gong Chen to pause while searching for his files.
Taking the cup, he sipped a mouthful, and his previously icy expression softened, his gaze warm and fluid.
"Lin Zhiyi made this. She always accidentally adds too much rock sugar."
"Yes, she made it."
"Pour me some more," Gong Chen instructed.
"Certainly."
Chen Jin let out a breath of relief. At least he was willing to take medicine now.
As he poured, Gong Chen pulled out a cigarette and prepared to light it.
Thinking for a moment, he remarked, "Miss Lin also said you drink and smoke without restraint. She won’t stop you if you want to die young."
Gong Chen: ...
Lin Zhiyi: Did I actually say that?
