Reborn To Be The Imperial Consort [BL]-Chapter 79: Zopyra — XVI
Chapter 79: Zopyra — XVI
Insolence of this kind was something the ten-tailed fox rarely tolerated. But knowing that this reptilian bastard was someone important to Hu Lijing made him want to see what it was that attracted the stupid fox to the latter.
Was it his attitude? Or the nonchalant way he spoke to someone of higher strength than him? Or the lack of fear on his features? Or the relaxation in his form?
It almost made him want to spare this particular dragon and perhaps toy with him a bit. But he had no time to waste, especially with just how little time he had left in Hu Lijing’s body.
Long ZhenHai’s words had struck a nerve in him, yes. It made him bristle, yes. It made a want to grab him by the throat and snap it, yes.
But he chose to turn away and ignore him instead, shrugging in reply as his flicked his gaze to the absolutely beautiful scenery of carnage below him.
He only said one thing.
"It is not a question you want an answer it," a yawn left him as he continued. "Keep your distance from me and you will not be harmed."
He was cruel, he was a merciless fallen deity, yes. But he was not a fiend who would kill someone’s lover. Losing a loved — physically or metaphorically — was a pain he knew all too well.
Sure he wanted Hu Lijing to suffer, he wanted Hu Lijing to break into pieces, crying over the atrocities, over the absolute horrors that had been done by the ten-tailed fox using his body.
He wanted him to despair over everything that was lost.
He, however, didn’t want that foolish bastard to despair over a broken heart or a cooling corpse of his lover.
"I have chosen to let you walk away," he gave the dragon of the infinite sea a sidelong glance with an impassive look on his face. "Do not make me reconsider the decision, dragon." He spat out the last word with so much venom that it could kill.
With a shake of his head, Long ZhenHai pursed his lips, finding himself incapable of being away from Hu Lijing, even if the latter was a mere body at this moment.
"I’m afraid I cannot bring myself to do so." He sighed, his words pausing as his gaze flickered down to the flames that were raining on the people of his clan. They weren’t his people by any means, but the race counted, he supposed. "This may be the last time I see Jing’ge."
He looked down, his half-lidded and insurmountable gloom clouding his entire body.
The ten-tailed fox let out a snort as he snapped his fingers, casually directing desvastating attacks towards the precariously standing buildings.
"I could care less." He grumbled in a low voice. "Love is but a foolish word. And you too are a fool." He pushed himself away, flying to a different spot. "Last time? Oh, once I leave his body, you will have plenty of time to give him your so-called love. That is, if he doesn’t die before that."
Malice was his root, if he had even a single thread of mercy within himself to give, the mercy would still be a poison. Malice was all he knew, there was no kindness in him, nor in the life he had lived.
Even now, he had nothing but hatred to give to this realm and increase it tenfold before throwing it towards the object of his revenge.
"As for me?" He drawled idly, moving his fingers in a slow, deliberate, movement to control the direction and the intensity of those flames. "I’m just here for mine and this foolish fox’s revenge. Do not get in the way, bastard dragon, I have no mercy to spare."
He never did.
And he was running out of time. The life force of Hu Lijing’s child was waning very rapidly.
However, there was a sadistic joy, a profane glee in watching, in basking in the pain of these people, it made him reluctant to part with the plane of physical existence after finally having somewhere to be tethered to it after such a long time.
But...
The ten-tailed fox frowned to himself, his displeasure making itself known on his face as his brows drew together and his hand clenched into a fist, the minute action closely followed by a loud explosion which left clouds of dust and sparks flying around, tainting the clear skies.
If he failed to uphold his end of the deal, his existence — spiritual and metaphysical — would be compromised, the worst possible outcome being obliteration of his soul.
The ten-tailed fox did not want that, obviously.
With a shake of his head, the fallen fox deity decided to banish those thoughts and instead take joy in the moment.
As he flew languidly, taking in the pleasurable sight of those dragons’ mortal agony, he could feel the stupid dragon’s presence lingering around himself, his cold energy clashing rather magnificently with Hu Lijing’s scorching one.
From the corner of his eyes, he could easily catch the sight of Long ZhenHai’s form. It was annoying, like a constant reminder of something the ten-tailed fox never had.
A constant by his side, someone he could trust his back to.
But Hu Lijing did. He had an extremely annoying dragon who was willing to follow him even when he clearly knew that it was not the nine-tailed fox.
The ten-tailed fox made a face, lips pulled into an annoyed curve as he snapped his head to look Long ZhenHai, his crimson eyes narrowed dangerously.
"Quit lingering, foolish dragon!" He snapped, irritated, with a flick of his sleeve. "I truly have no patience for you. Do not try to stop me, lest I will kill you."
Long ZhenHai frowned. "You cannot. You would not be able to, ten-tailed fox."
The confidence in his voice was nothing short of infuriating to the ten-tailed fallen fox deity. His lips pulled into a mocking smirk as he asked, curiously.
"Oh?" He asked, fangs grinding together as he tilted his head to the side. "What gives you such a confidence?"
Long ZhenHai simply looked at him and shrugged as though he was not facing a monster who had just slaughtered two of the major clans of the realm but an acquaintance.

"I just know. My soul does." He answered after a while, his gaze roaming around to inspect the sky high and scorching flames licking the hem of his clothes. "It doesn’t matter whether Jing’ge is in control or not, he would never allow any harm upon me."
The ten-tailed fox raised an eyebrow, somewhat intrigued as he glided closer to Long ZhenHai, his crimson eyes glaring at the ravenette intensely.
"What an interesting assumption, why don’t we test it out?" He asked menacingly eyeing Long ZhenHai.
