Reborn on Wedding Night: Flirting the Cold Bigshot into Blushes-Chapter 428: The Cutest Height Difference
Elijah Jefferson grabs Belle Gray’s arm to stop her from approaching.
Facing such a sensual beauty, Elijah’s eyes are full of clarity. "It has nothing to do with anyone else. I just won’t treat my marriage as a transaction."
Belle Gray mocks, "How naive, Young Master of the Jefferson Estate. If it’s the families wanting us to interact, would you still refuse?"
Elijah chuckles, his eyes bright and shining. "Of course I would refuse. Do I look like someone who follows family arrangements blindly?"
He refuses without hesitation.
A charming smile falters on Belle’s face; as the most outstanding member of the Gray Family’s young generation, she has never been refused so ungraciously.
Elijah doesn’t offer an easy way out, so Belle finds one herself and lightly laughs, "Is it because of that sickly beauty? If you like that type, I can go ask and learn from her."
Elijah’s smile fades, his gaze turns sharp. "Don’t reach for her; you can’t learn to be like her."
Belle muses as she watches Nancy Allen’s back.
Elijah and Belle stand together.
One is cool and handsome, the other is charming; from a distance, they actually seem to match.
Emma Lewis is with Basil Smith at this moment, watching the scene and can’t help but comment, "That Belle Gray is actually targeting Elijah Jefferson? Elijah definitely won’t be interested in her."
Emma has disliked Belle Gray since childhood.
Their family backgrounds are quite similar, and as children, several families’ kids were relatively close.
Belle has been well-versed in music, chess, calligraphy, and painting since she was a child.
Emma’s childhood was vibrant and lively, doing whatever she wanted to do and learning whatever she wanted to learn.
The two top family daughters formed a sharp contrast, and people constantly compared them; naturally, Emma was always the one criticized.
If it were just that, Emma wouldn’t dislike her.
She remembers once a group of kids were playing a game, and Belle liked a boy who then played with another little girl. The next day, that little girl ended up with an accidental facial injury from Belle.
The girl’s family didn’t dare cause trouble for the Gray Family, so they took compensation; but money can’t buy back a girl’s appearance.
Emma thinks Belle is like a carnivorous flower: beautiful and malicious, which is why she’s disliked her from a young age.
This woman has her eye on Elijah, who likes Nancy Allen; Belle probably won’t have good intentions towards Nancy, right?
Emma decides to keep an eye on things.
Emma suddenly lifts her hand to pat Basil’s shoulder and asks, "Do you think I’m better, or that she-devil?"
Emma’s hand is strong, making Basil’s shoulder ache, but he endures it and reassures, "You’re better."
Emma’s eyes sparkle and she whispers into Basil’s ear, "Our young lady really has an eye."
Basil uneasily adjusts his glasses.
Basil, a serious person with a calm heart, can only be ruffled by someone as unruly as Emma, often losing his composure around her.
Emma just likes Basil’s poised young lady demeanor.
Hailey Smith comes over without regard for the situation and says, "Hey, look over there, that guy who’s openly in love with our Young Madam is being tangled up by a woman. Honestly, they kind of match, and that height difference is super cute."
Emma’s originally happy face darkens at once, she turns to Hailey and asks, "Isn’t the height difference between me and your brother adorable?"
Basil gives Hailey a look that says, "Think before you speak."
Hailey finally realizes and blurts out, "Cute! Sis-in-law is 180, my brother is 175, definitely cute!"
Basil: "..."
Feeling utterly insulted.
Emma instantly thinks Hailey has good taste, moving to the back to chat and laugh with him.
The gaze beneath Basil’s glasses gradually softens — his silly brother and lively spouse.
In this life, Basil only wishes to protect these two, in addition to being loyal to the big master.
Julius Shaw settles Nancy Allen and then comes out.
Basil also stands up to arrange today’s banquet.
The big master hasn’t managed the company for a long time, so various parties are watching, some with ulterior motives. This birthday banquet, he’d negotiated with Julius, not only to affirm Young Madam’s status but also to warn those with hidden agendas.
Julius stands on stage, speaking with that indifferently condescending tone, "First, I thank all of you for coming to this birthday banquet today. Lately, it’s been a tumultuous time, and many might be idle, watching Cloudglow, watching me..."
Though unfamiliar with company affairs, Julius has an excellent memory, completely reciting the script Basil wrote for him, and delivering it with Godfery’s exact tone, not missing a word.
Basil stands aside, smiling.
The hall is silent, each with their own thoughts. 𝗳𝚛𝚎𝚎𝘄𝕖𝕓𝕟𝕠𝚟𝚎𝕝.𝗰𝕠𝐦
But many of the young women present were thinking about the fleetingly stunning lady.
At such a grand banquet, even if a guest feels unwell, they usually wait until after the opening to go for a rest.
As Godfery’s wife, she made a stunning entrance, and with slight discomfort was promptly taken away to rest, regardless of the occasion or timing — truly pampered.
At this moment, one guest quietly leaves the seat.
Belle Gray is extremely curious about that woman, wanting to see her for herself.
Usually, Nancy stays in Imperial Garden, difficult for outsiders to see. While nobody’s paying attention, Belle heads to the lounge.
Nancy is alone in the lounge, heels kicked off to the side, drifting into sleep.
Beneath the skirt’s cover, one can slightly see the swollen ankle from a twist.
Lightly sleeping outside, Nancy hears the door push open and instinctively awakens, thinking it’s Julius Shaw. Without opening her eyes, she lazily says, "Don’t bother."
That lazy, flat tone carries a sense of delicacy.
Belle walks in, seeing the exquisite woman turn over and murmur. If forced to find a flaw, it would only be the less-than-pleasing voice.
Such a woman captivates the souls of excellent men.
Belle approaches, Nancy senses something off and realizes it’s not Julius; she opens her eyes.
Nancy sees a stranger and props herself up from the sofa, frowning, "Who are you? Do you need something?"
Belle saunters over, reaching to support Nancy, ignoring her rejection, pressing her chest against Nancy’s arm.
Helping Nancy up, Belle coos charmingly, "I’m Belle Gray, accidentally wandered into the wrong lounge but happened to meet Miss Allen. I’ve looked forward to meeting Miss Allen for a long time, truly it’s better than reputation."
Nancy dislikes close contacts; although typically girls like pretty older sisters, Nancy doesn’t. Her past tragedy taught her that beneath beauty often lies malice, and there’s no such thing as coincidence.
She tries pulling her hand away, but it doesn’t budge.
Nancy frowns and coldly commands, "Let go, I don’t like being too close."
