Reborn in the 80s: The Smart Wife with a Secret Space-Chapter 1032: Why Should I Believe What You Say Is True
Uncle Liang looked at Xinyan’s serious little face and knew the matter she wanted to discuss wasn’t trivial: "Alright, let’s go over there."
He pointed to the open space opposite; it had a broad view, and others wouldn’t be able to overhear.
The three of them moved over there, and Uncle Liang looked at Xinyan: "What are you here to inquire about?"
Xinyan spoke: "Do you happen to know Gu Kaitai?"
Upon hearing the name, Uncle Liang’s face changed, his tone becoming somewhat unfriendly: "Who are you people?"
Hearing this, Xinyan understood that Uncle Liang indeed knew and realized she’d found the right person: "Uncle Liang, I won’t hide it from you; I’m Gu Kaitai’s great-granddaughter, though I only found out recently."
Uncle Liang visibly relaxed, but his eyes were still full of wariness: "What is your purpose in seeking me out?"
Xinyan got straight to the point: "I heard that you were one of those who helped with the burial back then. We’ve come to ask if you could point out my great-grandfather’s burial site so I can pay my respects to him."
Uncle Liang said with a face full of caution: "Why should I believe what you’re saying is true?"
Xinyan took out a jade pendant from her pocket, actually from the space: "This jade pendant is said to have been taken off my great-grandfather back in the day. Take a look."
Seeing the jade pendant, Uncle Liang’s eyes turned red: "This jade pendant indeed belonged to Old Master Gu. Are you really a descendant of the Gu Family?"
Xinyan nodded: "Yes."
Uncle Liang’s expression then turned cold: "It’s been over twenty years, and no one from the Gu Family has come to pay respects."
Xinyan’s eyes instantly welled up: "Indeed, it’s been too long a wait for my great-grandfather, but circumstances were beyond our control. I hope you can help with this now, Uncle Liang."
Back then, it happened suddenly, and there were people creating trouble, so we could only hastily bury him under the cover of night. Apart from a quality coffin and decent burial clothes, the old master didn’t take anything with him.
As for the burial place, according to my grandfather, he only remembers a general direction. So many years have passed, and I fear without someone leading, he himself wouldn’t find it.
We can only seek out the locals who helped back then.
Uncle Liang heard the phrase ’beyond our control’ and thought of the circumstances over the years, realized the identity of the Gu Family, knowing he probably misunderstood them: "Alright, it’s certainly too late today. Tomorrow morning, come to the village to find me, and I’ll take you there."
Hearing Uncle Liang agree, Xinyan was quite excited: "Thank you."
Uncle Liang waved his hand: "The old master has been lonely there for so long, remember to bring offerings tomorrow."
Xinyan nodded in agreement: "Uncle Liang, I will, but please keep this matter confidential for now."
Uncle Liang thought of something, didn’t make it difficult for Xinyan anymore, and lightly nodded: "Okay."
After exchanging a few words, Xinyan and He Jinxuan finally left.
Uncle Liang looked at Xinyan’s back and sighed: "Such a pity she’s a girl."
Uncle Liang thought of the old master wanting to relocate to the ancestral grave, feeling that a man in charge from the family would be essential. Though a descendant has come, he still held some old-fashioned views and hence didn’t hold much hope for Xinyan.
Thinking of this, unable to help himself, he turned to look in a certain direction.
He sighed, as he wanted to ask about the situation of the Gu Family’s descendants but feared overthinking it, thus dismissing the thought.
Now that the people have left, he couldn’t feel happy; worried that Old Master Gu had finally hoped for descendants but still might not return to the ancestral grave, he found the thought distressing.
Old Master Gu had done many good deeds in the region back then; during a drought one year, if not for his opening the granary for relief, countless people might have starved. Those of his generation always remembered this kindness.
So when Old Master Gu fell into trouble, they risked helping to bury him overnight.
Later, because of this, many suffered physical woes, yet it seemed worth it, at least Old Master Gu’s remains were preserved.
That event back then caused quite a stir, and later, due to special circumstances, the Gu Family descendants hadn’t shown up. Over these years, he and another secretly paid respects, and now finally he could be at ease.
