Reborn in the 1970s — Married a Proud Rough Man-Chapter 119 - 54: Don’t Wash Your Hair During Special Times
There was something comforting about taking a bath in the washroom while someone waited outside.
"You washed your hair?" Jie Jingchen asked, his brow furrowing slightly in displeasure when he saw that she had.
"Yeah, I did," Qin Mei nodded, unconcerned. She knew washing her hair during her period wasn’t ideal, but it felt too uncomfortable to leave it unwashed.
’The periods this body got were always irregular,’ she mused. ’They came without warning, always catching her off guard. Fortunately, they never lasted more than three days.’
Jie Jingchen stared at her with his sharp eyes. His gaze made Qin Mei extremely uneasy, like ants were crawling all over her. It was an awful feeling, and for some reason, it made her feel guilty.
The stiff line of Jie Jingchen’s lips twitched. He took a step forward, draping a military greatcoat over her shoulders. His voice was low, laced with a commanding authority. "From now on, don’t wash your hair when it’s that time of the month."
"Okay, I’ll listen to you." Qin Mei knew how to read the room. The expression on Jie Jingchen’s face was terrifyingly stern, and he radiated an authority that permitted no argument. Now was not the time to defy him.
’He’s just worried about my health, after all. I can’t be ungrateful.’
Jie Jingchen was satisfied. The corners of his lips curved up as he thoughtfully pulled the greatcoat tighter around her and took the bucket from her hand. "Hurry back to your room so you don’t catch a cold."
"Okay." Qin Mei’s almond-shaped eyes curved into crescents, her smile so wide it nearly hid her eyes from view.
Her smile was bright, pure, and incredibly infectious. Jie Jingchen was captivated.
Back in the room, Qin Mei took off the greatcoat and sat by the window, rubbing her wet hair with a dry towel.
Jie Jingchen set down the bucket, his eyes fixed on Qin Mei. He watched her slender, pale hands work the towel through her dripping hair. Her movements were natural, yet they held a captivating allure that was both beautiful and bewitching.
Acutely aware that Jie Jingchen was watching her, Qin Mei glanced to the side. Their eyes met. Jie Jingchen froze. Qin Mei’s hands stilled for a moment before she quickly veiled her shimmering almond eyes and resumed drying her hair.
Jie Jingchen had been about to step forward and help her, but he had only just taken a single step when...
"Jing Si," someone called for Jie Jingchen from the courtyard.
Jie Jingchen’s body went rigid, and he halted.
"Jie Jingchen, someone’s outside looking for you," Qin Mei said, unable to stop herself when she saw him standing there like a statue.
"I’ll be right out." Before the words had even left his mouth, Jie Jingchen turned, strode out of the room, and closed the door.
After Jie Jingchen left, Qin Mei’s tense body unconsciously relaxed. ’Things have been subtly different between me and Jie Jingchen since the miscarriage. To say that feelings are blossoming between us... no, I’d deny that. I’m just purely infatuated with his face. As for his body, well, it’s undeniable that he has a great figure. And as for...’
Qin Mei shook her head abruptly, a tempting blush creeping up her fair, delicate cheeks.
"What am I thinking?" Qin Mei patted her cheeks, then gave them a little pinch. She warned herself, ’Stop being a pervert. Be reserved. You have to be reserved!’
Qin Mei had expected Jie Jingchen to be back in a few minutes, but time passed until even her hair was dry, and he still hadn’t returned.
Her hands and feet had grown cold. Qin Mei shivered and burrowed under the covers. The bedding was warm. She paused, stunned, and then she saw the hot water bottle tucked inside. Her eyes flickered. ’Did Jie Jingchen leave this for me?’
A wide smile spread across Qin Mei’s face. Hugging the hot water bottle, she felt a warmth spread through her heart.
Qin Mei was easily moved. If someone treated her with their whole heart, she would give them her own in return.
Jie Jingchen returned in the middle of the night, his devastatingly handsome face looking grave. He stood by the bed, gazing at Qin Mei’s peaceful sleeping face. A faint smile touched his cool eyes, and his cold expression softened.
The next day, Qin Mei woke up. She sat up, rubbing her sleepy eyes as the covers slid off her. She glanced quizzically at the empty space beside her. ’Did Jie Jingchen even come back last night?’
"Xiao Mei," Mrs. Xie’s voice called from outside the door.
Startled, Qin Mei pushed her thoughts aside and asked, "Mom, what is it?"
"Xiao Mei, should we give Jing Qi her medicinal bath first, or have her drink her medicine?" Mrs. Xie asked.
Qin Mei was taken aback again and called out urgently, "Mom, wait a minute!"
Qin Mei quickly got up, changed her clothes, opened the door, called out to Mrs. Xie, and then dashed toward the washroom.
A few minutes later, Qin Mei came out of the washroom and went to Jie Jingshan’s room. She and Mrs. Xie worked together to help Jie Jingshan into the medicinal tub. After an hour’s soak, they helped her out again. While Mrs. Xie helped Jie Jingshan get dressed, Qin Mei noticed the medicine hadn’t arrived yet, so she turned and left the room, heading for the kitchen.
Jie Jingchen was nowhere to be seen in the kitchen. Only Jie Jingjue was there, staring blankly at the small stove where the medicine was brewing.
"Jie Jingjue, the medicine," Qin Mei said, waving a hand in front of his face.
