Chapter 497: 481 Husband and Wife Pig’s Feet Soup

Tian Sangsang shook her head lightly. "No need to pay attention—just two mad dogs." To her, Li Yibai was merely a stranger, and Jia Wenxiu had tried to harm her several times. There was no reason for her to talk to them, nor did she want to. She couldn’t control what others said, but surely she could control herself? Out of sight, out of mind—better to take a detour.

Jiang Jinghuai had always detested being touched by strangers—especially by an unfamiliar man.

After all, he was a germaphobe.

"Take your hand off me." He suppressed his anger, his eyebrows knitted in cold fury, his whole body tense.

Li Yibai gripped him even tighter and said, "Show some respect. Apologize to Wenxiu; she’s your sister, and you shouldn’t ignore her." Jia Wenxiu glanced at Jiang Jinghuai’s ice-cold expression and inwardly felt a surge of dread. She wanted so badly for Li Yibai to rein things in. After all, Jinghuai was nothing less than a military brat!

Jiang Jinghuai turned his head and gave him a piercing sidelong glance before throwing him over his shoulder. Then, he said:

"What do you want? Is this enough for you?"

"Ah!" Li Yibai cried out in pain, clutching his dislocated arm as he lay on the ground, wailing.

"Yibai! Yibai!" Jia Wenxiu rushed to support him, then looked up at Jiang Jinghuai with resentment and exclaimed indignantly, "Brother, how could you hit someone? We’re on the street!" Precisely because they were on the street, she assumed Jiang Jinghuai wouldn’t dare go too far.

"Don’t call me that; I’m not your brother." Jiang Jinghuai’s deep gaze settled momentarily on her fake sincerity before shifting to the man on the ground. His eyes flickered with surprise—so it was him...

This was nothing but the behavior of an arrogant good-for-nothing!

Li Yibai struggled to stand, his face twisted with pain. "What—so being in the military makes you superior? Does being a soldier give you the right to hit people? Does being a soldier mean women don’t exist in your eyes?"

Ah, so he even knew about Jinghuai’s military background. Clearly, he had done his homework.

Jiang Jinghuai scoffed, his lips curling faintly as he looked down at him. "Teaching a waste like you a lesson—nothing special." Damn it, he’s nothing but an embroidered pillow. A single throw could make him red-faced and breathless.

Talking to scum like this was nothing but a waste of time.

"You!" Li Yibai seethed with rage, furious enough to tear apart this spoiled bully who dared to harass people in public!

Just then, Ye Binyi approached, carrying a food box in her hand. The closer she got, the deeper her gaze seemed to become.

Jia Wenxiu hurried to put on a pitiful demeanor. She believed her mother was soft-hearted and still cared about her.

Li Yibai let out a contemptuous chuckle. So the original spouse had arrived.

Jiang Jinghuai suddenly felt tense, wishing desperately that he could throw these two into the Pacific.

But he was already a step behind—Ye Binyi had seen them. Jinghuai thought he would never forget the time he accompanied his mother to find his father, only to see his father with that other woman. The way his mother sobbed uncontrollably after returning home remained etched in his memory.

Ye Binyi stood before them, her expression calm.

"Mom," Jia Wenxiu called weakly.

Ye Binyi glanced at her briefly and asked, "Wenxiu, who is this?"

Seeing that her mother was willing to acknowledge her, Jia Wenxiu felt overjoyed.

She quickly introduced, "This is Li Yibai, my boyfriend. I’ve mentioned wanting to bring him home so you could meet him. Yibai is amazing—he’s an author, and his hit novels Heroic Legend of the Condor Heroes and Return of the Condor Heroes are his work. He’s studying at Jing University, Mom, you must..."

"That’s enough, Wenxiu!" Ye Binyi cut her off coldly. "Starting today, I am not your mother!" In that moment, she had completely lost faith in Wenxiu, especially after seeing her with Li Yibai.

Jia Wenxiu didn’t understand what had just happened and stared blankly at their retreating figures.

Li Yibai comforted her, saying, "Wenxiu, don’t worry. They’re just dogs riding the coattails of power—abusing their influence to oppress others. When we rise to success, I’ll fight for your justice. Together, we’ll expose their family’s dirty secrets. These so-called noble families are the most hypocritical—they use their privileges for nothing but vile deeds."

Jia Wenxiu nodded repeatedly. The Jiang Family held nothing for her anymore; she was merely putting on a show.

"Mom." Jiang Jinghuai looked at his mother’s frail frame, pressing his lips together and speaking softly.

"Don’t worry about me." Ye Binyi smiled wryly. "He’s studying at Jing University—I’ve seen him more than once. Like you, I recognized him the first time I saw him. He looks too much alike."

"You’re impressive for still remembering." She sighed. "There are things you shouldn’t have needed to remember."

Jiang Jinghuai asked, "Does Dad know?"

At that moment, Ye Binyi felt utterly drained. She suddenly realized—what good had all this resentment brought her over the years? Yet, she still couldn’t swallow her anger. Life in this world often seemed like it could go flawlessly—her own life had been smooth sailing, almost spotless. Why, then, had it been marred so abruptly? And why had that stain come from the person who shared her bed?

Who could truly swallow that anger? The more one tried to forget, the harder it became; in the blink of an eye, more than ten years had gone by. Life really is a one-time deal—it cannot be redone.

"I haven’t told him. It’s his issue; he can handle it himself." Ye Binyi lifted the food box in her hand and said tiredly, "Aunt Zhang made pig trotter soup. Take it."

"Is this for me?" Jiang Jinghuai asked, surprised.

Ye Binyi rolled her eyes. "For you? No, for my grandson!" She added furiously, "If you want to eat, go home and take care of yourself. Do you think I’ll run short on food for you? Spending all day outside and becoming this skinny. That Tian..."

Before she could hear further unpleasant words, Jiang Jinghuai quickly interjected, "Mom, I understand. I’ll talk to Sangsang."

Jiang Jinghuai knew his reputation was already tarnished worldwide. Carrying the pig trotter soup home, he didn’t dare give it to Tian Sangsang. His wife’s impression of him had finally improved, and he couldn’t risk even the smallest disruption erasing that. Thus, he could only give the soup to Meng Shuyan and Guan Kunling.

Tian Sangsang silently watched him but ultimately didn’t care much. However, she thought of something else. Earlier, while standing by the door, she suspected that Jiang Jinghuai might have learned of Li Yibai’s true identity.

Ye Binyi couldn’t possibly fail to recognize Li Yibai, which meant—did Jiang Jinghuai?

As a result, she occasionally observed Jiang Jinghuai closely afterward. Yet, his expression remained flawless, showing no trace of sadness, rage, or hatred that might indicate inner turmoil.

Two possibilities: either he was extremely good at hiding it, or he genuinely didn’t care.

Tian Sangsang leaned more toward the former.

Unable to hold back, she confronted him directly, "You don’t have any secrets you’re hiding from me, right? You look like you’re carrying a heavy burden."

"What?" Jiang Jinghuai looked a little startled, then saw her exaggerated expressions and her adorable round face. "Stuff your imagination back into your belly."

"I can’t," Tian Sangsang said, shaking her head. "I can’t add more weight to my belly; I’d be overweight. Are you sure there’s nothing going on?"

"Nothing." Jiang Jinghuai’s gaze didn’t falter.

Sometimes, the more you care about someone, the less you want them to know about your past—especially parts of that past that no longer matter. He had long let go of them. Why bring them up just to hurt others and himself?

Tian Sangsang responded with an "Oh," looking downward as though she weren’t concerned. Still, he hadn’t said it.
