Chapter 64: Oh, so young.

Sylus spent the night going through all the studies dealing with the county, Liyue, all while Sophia was keeping him company.

It wasn’t until midnight that the young prince decided to take a nap.

By the time the sun was out the following day, Sylus could barely get up from his bed.

Why?

For some weird reason, the bed was unusually cozy and warm. His muscles felt as though they were melting in sensation, wanting to remain sleeping on the bed.

Even as he was half-asleep, fighting a war in his mind about whether to get up or remain lying down, he could hear the commotion happening outside as they were setting up his ride and everything else he needed.

It wasn’t just that; he could also feel Sophia staring hard at him while he was asleep.

Actually, she had been doing so all night. This was one of the reasons why he could not fully enjoy his rest.

The saying all good things must come at a cost made a lot of sense now.

While he was busy researching the territory he was going to rule over and eventually turn into a separate kingdom, he also branched into Sophia’s attributes and existence.

From what the system told him, she was once a soul fragment, but after she made a contract with him and became his subordinate, she underwent evolution and became what is known as a concept.

His knowledge of what these beings are was basically absent, but the system described them as beings who shape the world.

Sophia was supposed to be the concept of envy.

That title granted her the aspect [Cataclysm], allowing her to destroy anything she came in contact with; that also applied to her dark mist.

That alone already made her the strongest of all his subjects, at least at face value.

Not to mention her star blessing, [The Star Beta], which was basically her being able to not only summon the dead but also rule them as well.

The possibility of her gaining another title after claiming her first soul was high.

Yeah, she was bound to have issues.

Slowly, Sylus opened his eyes, and the first thing he saw was Sophia, hovering in the air and looking down at him.

Her eyes were so passionate that it was almost unnerving. And for some reason, it felt as if she was going to drool any second from there.

’This person...’

Sylus threw on a deadpan expression.

"Oh—good morning, Master."

It was one thing to wake up with Zani by his side; it was an entirely different matter when it was death incarnate, with the power to kill everyone in the castle if she willed it.

"What are you doing on top of me?"

"I was watching you sleep. You are awfully innocent when you’re asleep; it was quite adorable."

"Is that so?"

Seeing that Sylus wanted to stand up, Sophia moved to the side, her body still up in the air, and yet, her dark mist was connected to Sylus.

As he stood up, Sylus did the first thing that came to mind, which was to pull off his shirt and head to the shower for his long trip to the county.

Before he left the room, he made sure to give Sophia a few rules.

The first was to never show herself to anyone unless he gave her permission to do so. Secondly, she should never kill a soul without informing him, either before or after. And lastly, she should forget the first rule if he were ever going to be assassinated or ambushed.

She responded pretty positively to it, so Sylus assumed she understood what he meant.

If she could just pop out whenever she felt like it, every single plan he had would be ruined before it could even begin.

Once Sylus was done taking a bath, he headed straight back to the room and got dressed for his trip.

He noticed the castle was empty, which meant they were probably already waiting outside for him as some sort of farewell.

Hell, even his father was probably waiting outside as well.

Elizabeth probably scolded and forced him to.

There had been news about Martins turning a new leaf, which was great and all, but the question remains:

Can humans truly change?

Sylus for sure didn’t think so—at least not with his father.

After a while of getting ready, Sylus was finally set to head out.

As he opened the door, there—waiting on the other side—was a young man, looking to be in his mid-30s.

He had perfectly silky blonde hair and wore a nice black outfit with a white shirt and a black jacket over it. Almost the exact same way a noble would dress.

"Good morning, Your Highness. I hope this morning finds you well," the young man bowed his head.

At first, Sylus was confused; the man looked so familiar and also different.

Until he realized...

"Alfred?!"

Sylus was so shocked, he had to lean back a bit, his expression betraying him.

A cheeky smile made its way to Alfred’s lips. "Yes, Your Highness. I have gotten the same expression from everyone this morning. My new appearance must be quite the shock—it was to me as well."

’He... is handling this quite well. He used to look so old; now he is... young? It took about the same amount of time as Zani’s evolution.’

Thinking about it now, Sylus was sure everyone must have been dumbfounded by this.

Zani was still young during her evolution, so it was dismissible. But this was an old man going back to his middle age—it was bound to provoke a reaction.

Feeling sympathy, Sylus placed one hand on Alfred’s shoulder.

"The ladies are going to love you."

Confused, Alfred raised his head. "The ladies?"

"Yeah, don’t worry about it. Let’s head outside; I’m sure the others are waiting."

Alfred scanned his body for a while, wondering if the prince meant he looked like a lady.

Then he sighed and followed right behind him.

...
