Reborn as the Third Prince: To Build and Conquer my way to Royalty.-Chapter 59: A new loyal soul.
Chapter 59: A new loyal soul.
A few days passed, and a few changes had begun to settle in the kingdom.
For starters, Martins was back to being the king of Verdenez, but under the control of Elizabeth.
Most of the people who were once under the influence of his star blessing reverted to normal.
Including Alfred, who was considering retiring as Martin’s Mystero.
Unlike Sylus, whose aspect [Lordship Avails] stops his underlings from betraying him—or rather, gets them punished if they do—
Martin didn’t have the same blessing. His subordinates only ever stayed out of respect and trepidation.
With that loss, they had nothing to hold on to.
Although Elizabeth had already made it clear that no one was to spread the news past the castle walls. Martin’s reputation getting spoiled would do no good for Sylus.
At the same time, a secret burial was held for the first queen, Layla, and Elizabeth also cleared her name to the public, explaining how Layla had agreed to the whole thing.
Since Martin told the same story as well, people were forced to believe it, sending their apologies to the queen en masse.
Meanwhile, Sylus had not woken up ever since that fateful day.
Luckily, he was still breathing and was said to occasionally open his eyes, only to fall back asleep.
Not wanting to take any chances, Elizabeth called the priestess to run a few tests on him.
According to her reports, Sylus was trying to recollect all the mana he had lost. Although she found it weird that it was taking so long, she assured them he would wake up once he was done.
And sure enough, he did.
Sylus opened his eyes, the ceiling being the first thing he saw.
Sleeping peacefully on his chest was Aria, her feathers forming a small blanket as though they were trying to protect Sylus from the cold.
’Ah, I am awake.’
Sylus wasn’t the least bit impressed.
Reflecting on what happened, he wished he had been swallowed by the ground instead.
Though it was in small fragments, he still remembered waking up a few times, only to do something stupid and fall asleep right back.
He even vividly recalled one time when he buried his face in Ava’s chest and Erica was freaking out about how she wished it was her instead.
’Kill me.’
Gently placing Aria on the bed, Sylus sat upright.
He looked to the left side of the room, his eyes meeting the mirror, where he could see his reflection.
His hair had grown longer again, and his eyes had a red glow to them, brighter than usual.
’I wonder how long I was asleep. It feels like I’ve been away for years.’
[Notice!]
Sylus picked up on the sudden notification. He had just woken up, and the system was already bothering him.
[You have a soul fragment in your possession.]
[Would you like to form a contract?]
’What? A soul fragment? What is that?’
[Soul Fragment]
Description: Soul fragments were once living souls, now wandering the world in search of a master. This particular soul has chosen to stay close to you, seeking a contract.
’A soul...’
Sylus kept his hand on his temple as he wondered what kind of soul would want to make a contract with him.
Surely it couldn’t be a random soul? Nothing in the books he had read informed him of souls being able to wander around after death.
So this soul had to have some kind of intense power gap if it could defy the laws of the world.
’Hmm...’
He raised his head.
’Okay, I accept.’
If the soul ended up being a powerful warrior who had surpassed pure strength, then it would be a good ally to add to his list of subordinates, especially now that he intended on going through with that plan.
[Request confirmed.]
[Contract with soul has been initiated.]
[Congratulations, you have successfully made a contract with a soul fragment.]
’Hmm...’
[You have acquired a new subject.]
[The nameless character will now undergo a star transition.]
[You have given birth to a lesser star.]
[The lesser star has been handed to the nameless subject.]
[The Star Beta.]
Sylus was speechless.
Right beside him, a gust of dark mana swirled on the ground, dark sparks moving across the room, threatening to expand even further.
What happened next was truly shocking.
A woman, tall and slender, grew from the shallows of the darkness, standing respectfully next to Sylus.
She spoke, her voice soothing and endearing to the ear.
"It’s an honor to meet you, Master."
She did not have a face nor a body to speak of.
Yet, her black dress remained firm, and the veil stood on top, covering a head that wasn’t there.
Sylus was certain—this entity in front of him had no body.
’I guess... a ghost, uhn...’
[The nameless character would like to be offered a name.]
[Upon naming the nameless character, they shall undergo evolution in respect to your aspect {Lord of the People}.]
Sylus didn’t really think much about it; he simply just blurted out the first name that came to his mind.
"Sophia."
[The name Sophia has been registered.]
[The character Sophia will now undergo evolution.]
Before Sylus’s eyes, the entity began to go through some very vivid changes.
First, her dress vanished, showing nothing but a skeleton.
Soon after, tissues began to form, muscles followed, and then flesh. Keeping the same pace, Sophia developed flesh, hair, eyes, and every other needed body part.
Until eventually—
"Layla?"
Sylus blurted out, his eyes widening in wonder at what he was looking at.
He stood up hastily, walking toward her, one hand now resting on her cheek.
"It’s... you... right?"
Though she looked younger and even prettier, Sylus was confident it was her.
Sophia smiled.
"Master looks happy to see me; you must like my new form. Although I apologize, I do not know who Layla is. Is she a lover of yours?"
Sylus sighed, taking a step back.
"What are you?"
"I am a part of you, your most loyal servant. Shall I kill off everyone in this castle to prove that to you?"
Sylus’s eyes lowered to the rest of her body.
"No. Get dressed first."
