Reborn as the Sweetheart of a Paranoid Boss-Chapter 375: Sibling Conversation, Candid Confessions
"Okay, I’ll go do it now."
Lynn Rhodes agreed.
"Should I call Lana Blanchett now?"
She took out her phone.
"Alright, we’ll wait for you outside."
Selena Kensington finished speaking, grabbed Hugh Kensington, and motioned for Lea Dutton to leave the reception room.
After a few minutes, Lynn Rhodes came out.
"How did it go?"
Selena asked her.
Lynn nodded, "Lana took the bait. On the phone, she mocked me, saying no one would help me again this time..." 𝒇𝒓𝒆𝒆𝙬𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝒎
Selena and Hugh exchanged a glance.
"Seems like she’s gotten quite arrogant being the art director over the years..."
"But, this could work to our advantage."
Selena’s lips curled into a smile.
"You should post a tweet using your own account now."
"Alright."
Lynn nodded.
Then she logged into her social media, furiously typing away.
After finishing, she handed it to Selena to look.
"Is this okay?"
Selena glanced at the content.
It was mostly Lynn writing in an angry tone about Lana plagiarizing her work, threatening her, and even forcing her to leave Aethelgard...
"It’s fine, post it as is."
After Lynn made the post, Selena told her to go rest.
"Lea, anything else?"
Selena asked her.
Lea shook her head, and Selena sent her off too.
Soon, only the siblings were left.
Hugh looked at Selena, who hadn’t left. "Do you have something to discuss?"
Selena gave him a look, "What, are you trying to get rid of me?"
Hugh covered his forehead with a hand, speaking helplessly, "How could I dare? I’m just curious."
"Let’s go, to my office. There’s something to discuss."
"Okay."
Thus, Selena followed Hugh to his office.
Entering the office, Hugh called on the intercom for two cups of coffee, "One with extra sugar."
He added another sentence.
Hugh still remembered his sister’s preference for sweet things.
Selena didn’t stop him, sitting on the sofa.
"What do you want to talk about?"
Selena asked him.
Hugh came over and sat opposite her.
His expression became very serious, taking Selena by surprise.
"Sis, I’m your only family now, right?"
Looking at the still somewhat youthful face, Selena felt a little dazed.
As if overlapping with the young, handsome face of their father in her memory.
"What, are you going to tell me you’re actually adopted by mom and dad?"
Selena chuckled.
Hugh’s mouth twitched slightly, the somewhat solemn atmosphere he struggled to create was destroyed by his sister’s words.
"I’m your only family, so can you tell me what Sidney Dalton and Roxanne Sutton actually did to you."
"And... Sis, you’ve probably hidden a lot from me."
"Did you secretly go to see Aunt?"
Selena’s smile became increasingly stiff with Hugh’s string of questions.
She restrained her smile, her gaze slightly darkening.
Looking at Hugh, his face was calm and unwavering.
She really underestimated her little brother’s capabilities...
"Yes, I went to see Aunt."
Selena admitted openly.
"And Sidney Dalton and Roxanne Sutton, they indeed did some things, but those... I’ll handle myself."
After all, it’s about past events, Selena herself didn’t want to recall those unpleasant memories.
Nor did she want to burden Hugh unduly.
Hugh’s gaze suddenly turned deep, making Selena pause.
"Sis, father taught me before, I’ve never forgotten."
Hugh suddenly said.
Upon hearing Hugh’s words, several images flashed through Selena’s mind.
It’s of their father, standing before them, speaking words of guidance.
As for what was said, Selena couldn’t clearly remember.
Hugh saw her slightly bewildered expression and sighed.
"It’s okay, I’ll help you remember."
"Father said, I’m the boy of the family, I can be the umbrella of protection for you and mom."
"So, Sis, you don’t need to hide it from me."
Selena’s lashes quivered slightly, remaining silent.
Coincidentally, the assistant came in to deliver coffee, and noticing the odd atmosphere in the room, quickly left after placing the two cups on the table.
Selena silently picked up the coffee, taking a sip.
Hugh waited for her response.
After a long while, Selena put the coffee down, looking up at Hugh.
"Do you remember what happened ten years ago?"
Hugh’s eyes showed a hint of pain, "I remember clearly."
Unlike Selena’s vague memory, Hugh had that memory deeply etched into his heart.
Because of the clear remembrance, he hid his thoughts, disguising himself.
No matter the distance, he couldn’t forget that scene.
The day before, he cried in his parents’ arms because they took only his sister to Oakhaven, not him.
He also remembered blaming Selena for eating all three candies by herself.
But just in two days, everything changed.
As if the bubble of happiness had become a mirage.
He watched helplessly as Uncle’s family came to their home, followed by his grandma’s family escorting the indifferent, emotionless sister back.
At that time, Selena seemed like a robot, her eyes filled with confusion and coldness.
No matter how Hugh tried probing her, she’d shake her head saying she forgot.
Later, even before Hugh fully accepted the news of their parents dying in a car accident, Uncle hurriedly organized the funeral.
He didn’t even have time to ask grandma’s family what actually happened.
They vanished from his life.
Back then, Hugh was only eight years old. Though sensible and smart, he was still a child.
He clung to Selena in fear, hoping she would provide answers.
Eventually, Selena returned to normal.
Except her first words to him were, "Hugh, don’t be scared, Sis will protect you."
This one sentence made Hugh make up his mind.
He began navigating the entertainment industry, debuted, handing over every penny earned to Selena for safekeeping.
Because he understood, their parents were gone.
With that, only he was left to support this family.
Selena listened in a daze as Hugh spoke. It took her a while to mutter, "If I told you, mom and dad’s death was not an accident?"
Hugh’s eyes suddenly flashed with fierce shock, "What?!"
Not an accident?!
Selena collected herself, looking steadily at him, "Yes, and I suspect it’s related to Uncle."
"Previously, after seeing Uncle, I went to find Aunt."
"Unfortunately, Uncle is guarding this matter strictly, even Aunt doesn’t know much..."
"Just that, apparently, father seemed to have predicted it long ago..."
Hugh frowned, "Could it be Uncle deliberately harmed them for the inheritance?!"
Selena pressed her lips together, shaking her head.
"That could be a reason, but with Uncle’s brain and ability, he’s nothing more than a scapegoat; the true culprit is someone else."
