Reborn as the Failed Lord with my Resource Gathering System.-Chapter 246: The cost of a blabbering mouth.
There was a bit of silence, both from Isak and his sister, as they wanted to be sure they heard Dorian right.
Blinking continuously like children trying to understand a new word, Isak spoke, his eyebrow twitching in shock.
"Did you just say… you worked for three days straight? Each day twenty-four hours?"
"Did I stutter?" Dorian slightly tilted his head to the side, looking at them as though what he said was the most normal thing in the entire world.
"Don't look at me like I have gone mad! Are you using some kind of spell or what? How is it possible for people to work three days straight without getting even a wink of sleep?" Isak yelled, now once again pointing directly at Dorian.
"I don't know. You tell me." Dorian shrugged his shoulders.
This made Isak fume even more. It made no sense. That was the first time he was hearing of anyone being capable of working three days straight. Humans, no less.
Then Maria chimed in.
"The Aurelian men are well trained when it comes to working for longer days without food or water. The most they can handle is a week before the fatigue starts to hit them. I assure you, it is nothing to worry about."
Hearing one of Dorian's wives say it directly to his face made Isak genuinely feel like he was going insane.
Just how abnormal was Dorian and the people around him?
It seemed like the more he knew about the Duke, the more confused and terrified he got of him.
When it seemed like the matter had died down for a while, Elizabeth decided it was the right time for her to speak her mind.
"Are your men working like golems because you are the Dragon Monarch? I would think your power is that great, ri—"
Fear etched on Isak's face for many reasons, but one of those was something he could definitely no longer interfere in.
Maria, with a swift movement, stretched her Storm Breaker blade toward the Princess's neck, her eyes carrying a red glow that would send shivers down the spine of anyone who watched.
At the same time, Flare appeared right beside Dorian, standing about six feet tall, with flames glowing around specific parts of its body.
Lilii had her sharp claws close to the Princess's face, and Ciel had her dragon tail aimed at her as well, threatening to cut off her head if she were to move a single muscle from where she stood.
All that was left was Dorian, still standing where he was, and the onlookers, turning their gaze toward the site, still willing to pounce whenever the opportunity came to them.
"Where did you get that from? Are you a spy?" Maria spoke, not even a hint of a smile on her face. That was enough to tell anyone that she wasn't joking in any way.
Princess Elizabeth stood straight as a stick, sweating bullets as her eyes swayed from one attacker to the other.
Anyone in her position would have dropped to their knees and pissed themselves.
Not only was a dragon—a True Dragon—aiming her tail at Elizabeth's neck, but a bat-girl had her dark claws at the ready as well.
"B-brother! My brother told me about it, yeah! I only overheard it when he told Father!"
She immediately confessed, not ready to bargain anything to get scratches on her skin.
Almost instantly, all eyes and readied attacks fell toward Isak.
Unlike his sister, Isak immediately raised his hands to the sky, showing he meant no harm whatsoever.
Even the guards behind him did not dare make a move.
"I lied! It was only a lie I told my father because I felt it would take him off my back! I knew the City of Dragons was under your territory, but I did not think you would actually be the Dragon Monarch!"
"He is telling the truth. Step down."
"But My Lord—" Maria tried to protest but quickly gave up.
She could remember Dorian telling her how he didn't want anyone knowing he was the Dragon Monarch and how that would lead to many of the other Dragon Masters wanting to know his whereabouts.
"I am sure he isn't the only one suspecting that I am the Dragon Monarch. He is just the first to say it directly to my face. Dumb as it may sound. He is still a Prince; let's treat him as such."
Each word Dorian uttered was followed with a step forward, along with his subordinates drawing away from the attack.
Elizabeth immediately moved closer to her guards for protection, more than terrified by what had just happened.
On the other hand, while Isak was sighing in relief, he suddenly felt Dorian wrap his arm around his shoulder. Which, of course, immediately caught him off guard.
"Yeesh, that was a close call, wasn't it? My dragon friends here would have killed both you and your sister if I hadn't stepped in. That would have been such a shame."
Isak could only carry a nervous look on his face.
"I am sorry, I wasn't aware that you were the Dragon Monarch. Which is insane now that I think about it. You're a being of legend; it makes more sense now."
"Right? I knew you'd understand, which is why I also want to keep it a secret since I don't intend on attracting any kind of attention yet."
"I understand. You have my word not a soul will hear about this from me."
"Yeah, but here's the thing. Your father already knows about this. That is quite problematic for me."
Dorian hinted, practically sticking his lips into the scared Prince's ear.
"But of course, I am not an evil person. Even I have my own morals. As such, I am willing to compromise if you help me with a tiny little bitty situation."
"Help?"
A devilish smile played on Dorian's face.
"How about you get your old man to sign a contract for me?"
