Chapter 25: Chapter 25: Standing Up for Their Family

The people around Gu Jinli were all startled by her actions, having no clue what she was up to.

Nanny Chen tried to step forward in tears to pull her away but was roared back by Qi Yi: "Stand back! She's saving my and Ah Shu's child, whoever dares to interfere will be executed immediately!"

Qi Yi was known for his mild temper, having never uttered such grave words before, which frightened Nanny Chen.

Housekeeper Lin gestured to her not to intervene, implying that Young Master Qi's stillbirth was enormously shocking, and it was only natural for Young Madam to be emotionally distressed.

The current situation couldn't get any worse; should this young girl manage by a stroke of blind luck to revive Young Master Qi, it would be a cause for great celebration.

With Qi Yi's support, no one dared to stop Gu Jinli anymore; she could now use her knowledge to try her best to save the child.

Young Master Qi's condition was that of typical newborn asphyxiation, and the first step to saving him was to clear his respiratory tract of mucus.

This was not modern times, lacking hospital apparatus; she had no choice but to pinch the child's nose and suck mouth-to-mouth, careful not to exert too much force and harm the newborn.

Seeing Gu Jinli pinch the child's nose, Nanny Chen became even more frantic. Was this a rescue or harm?

Unable to bear the urgency, Nanny Chen wanted to run into the tent and call out Young Madam to stop Gu Jinli, but recalling that Young Madam had just narrowly escaped death's door, learning about Young Master's condition might induce a fatal fit. So, Nanny Chen stomped her feet and continued to wait anxiously in place.

Fortunately, it wasn't long before the girl tormenting Young Master Qi suddenly turned her head and spat out a mouthful of dark green stuff.

And this dark green stuff was precisely the mucus clogging the child's airway.

Gu Jinli then resumed pinching the child's nose, suctioning his mouth again, and after extracting two more patches of the smaller mucus, stopped; yet the child remained with eyes closed, unable to breathe.

Immediately, Gu Jinli proceeded to perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child, rhythmically pressing on the infant's chest, then pinching the nose and giving breaths.

Doctor Li, who had been watching till now, couldn't hold back any longer, squatting down next to Gu Jinli to observe her giving the breaths to the child.

After about twenty or so breaths, the child finally revived, emitting a weak cry.

"Wuuu~ Wuuu~"

The infant's cries quietened everyone around, followed by a gasp, their gazes at Gu Jinli filled with disbelief.

However, the people of the Old Gu Family watched Gu Jinli with eyes full of rage. This despicable girl actually saved Qi Mansion's Young Master Qi; what would become of their own Gu Family then?

Doctor Li was the most excited. Upon hearing Young Master Qi's crying, he immediately checked the pulse, and seeing the weak but genuinely beating pulse, he excitedly exclaimed, "He's been saved, truly saved!"

Having been a doctor all his life, he only knew that to deal with newborn asphyxia, one must flip the baby and pat its back; with luck, the baby could be made to cry and then would survive, but with bad luck, the baby would die.

In his many years of practice, he had heard countless tales of newborns dying from asphyxia. He had already deemed Young Master Qi beyond help, yet this young girl had miraculously saved him.

Upon hearing Doctor Li's words, Qi Yi came back to his senses, rushing over, wanting to pick up the child, but not daring to, he looked anxiously at Gu Jinli.

Gu Jinli smiled and said: "Uncle Qi, little brother is all right now, you can hold him."

Only then did Qi Yi carefully pick up his own child, looking at the tiny, softly crying baby wrapped in swaddling clothes, Qi Yi's eyes reddened.

He hurriedly stopped Doctor Li: "Doctor Li, can you check on the child? Why is his cry so faint? Is something wrong?"

Doctor Li had already felt the child's pulse before, the child was well-nourished, and although he was premature, his health seemed fine. It was because he suffered as soon as he was born that he appeared tired, which made his cries fainter.

Knowing the child was precious to Qi Yi, Doctor Li took the child's pulse again. After the time it took to drink a cup of tea, he explained the child's condition in detail to Qi Yi, who then let go of his worries and laughed heartily.

Qi Yi turned to Gu Jinli and said with all sincerity: "Good child, thank you for saving my son."

Gu Jinli stood on tiptoes, peering at the child wrapped in the swaddling clothes, and smiled: "Uncle Qi, you don't need to thank me. I'm also happy to be able to save the little brother. My father said, it's not easy to escape famine, and when we can lend a hand to others, we should. Not to save someone in dying need is inhumane."

Seeing Gu Jinli mention Gu Dashan, Qi Yi looked towards him and said: "Brother Gu, wait here for a moment for me. For today's incident, I shall certainly seek justice for your family."

The young girl was very smart; by purposely mentioning Gu Dashan, she surely sought for him to stand up for their family. He caught on and was quite willing to support them.

Gu Dashan, stunned by Gu Jinli's rescue of Young Master Qi, felt somewhat bewildered. Upon hearing Qi Yi's words, he could only nod his head.

Qi Yi was busy bringing the child in to show his wife and did not linger outside for long, he quickly walked into the tent.

Nanny Chen, upon seeing that the young master was unharmed, wept with joy, and followed Qi Yi into the tent at a quick pace, to attend to the young madam and her child.

Doctor Li asked Gu Jinli: "Young girl, what was that method you used just now? Where did you learn it?"

That emergency procedure was so useful; if it were spread, it could save many lives.

Gu Jinli replied: "I learned it from a medical book, which was given to me by an elderly gentleman. I can't show it to you, but I can teach you the method I just used."

Doctor Li felt sorry he couldn't see the medical book but was overjoyed when he heard Gu Jinli would teach him the emergency method, and eagerly said: "Very good, teach me now."

Doctor Li was impatient; having seen a new life-saving method for the first time, he couldn't wait a moment longer.

Gu Jinli carefully explained the procedure to him. The method was simple; Doctor Li jotted it down in his notebook and after reading it twice, he mastered it, exclaiming in admiration: "It's really that simple."

Yet, it was such a simple method that saved a child's life.

"The key is that the mucus was blocking the child's windpipe, just suck out the mucus, help the child breathe again, and the child can survive on his own," Gu Jinli explained the most crucial part to Doctor Li.

Doctor Li quickly took note of this point, then asked: "What to do if the mucus or a foreign object cannot be sucked out?"

Gu Jinli shook her head: "If that's the case, nothing can be done, and the child can only pass away."

In ancient times, unlike the present day, modern hospitals have specialized medical equipment to remove tracheal foreign objects. In ancient times, you could only rely on your mouth, and if it couldn't be sucked out, the only outcome was suffocation.

Her success in saving the young master of Qi Mansion today was half due to luck.

The people of the Old Gu Family saw Gu Jinli chatting cheerfully with Doctor Li, and with their mouths bound by cloth, they called out to her with whimpers. Their ferocious expressions were as if they were itching to devour her.

Gu Jinli glanced at them and responded with an arrogant, cold laugh, almost infuriating the people of the Old Gu Family to the point of a mishap.
