Reborn As Cursed Alpha's Mate-Chapter 125: Blood Moon Flower Plant
Chapter 125: Blood Moon Flower Plant
Cassandra didn’t want to be in his proximity but she willed herself to follow him and see what he wanted to show her.
Getting up was an effort; her body seemed to have lost all strength, and her chest screamed. The anklet around her leg seemed like a shackle to her instead of his token of love. Siroos moved ahead, keeping his distance; the will to just turn around and have her in his arms rendered him weak inside.
He wanted to comfort her, apologise to her, soothe her but the regrets were like chasms between them, separating them.
Cassandra mindlessly wandered behind him as he halted near the place where the dragon had taken her the day of the festival and she had slept in his arms.
There was a unique plant which was nestled between the gigantic palm trees. It was a kind of bush Cassandra had never seen before.
The plant had thick dark green leaves which seemed to glow with this unearthly energy. There were so many insects dancing on it, happy dancing. It had this magical feel to it which pulled her towards it as if she had some deeper connection to this.
Siroos squatted near it and touched its leaves with his fingertips while Cassandra kept standing, watching it slightly mesmerised.
"This is called a Blood Moonflower plant. No one has seen it grow anywhere else in the world. It doesn’t grow above this size and it doesn’t die. We don’t know how long it has been here, but according to the records, it has been centuries."
Cassandra’s heart began to race for unknown reasons and she just couldn’t take her eyes off the plant Siroos was touching as he continued to tell her its unique tale.
"A giant red flower blooms in it after many many years under a full moon. Whenever it does, a special Alpha is born in our pack. A cursed Alpha like me to be precise. The last time it bloomed was 30 years ago, that’s when I was born. Under him, the curse is triggered and the number of children being born dwindles. Unless he finds his mate and does not mate with her. All prior Alphas who were born during the blooming of this flower were extremely powerful but they never found their mates."
Cassandra slightly gasped at the revelations made. She understood how important it was for shifters to find their mates to feel complete, she didn’t know it went to such extremes.
"Why does the pack choose them as their Alpha? Why not select someone else?" Cassandra couldn’t help but ask Siroos.
"All of them are always born with very unique powers which help the pack substantially. The pack thrives under them in wealth and power and there is always a soothsayer who gets a prophecy that the Alpha needs to lead the pack and remain mateless as if to make him suffer for some crime. At least six Alphas have been born under this curse before me, I am the seventh."
Siroos slowly turned his head to watch his beautiful mate and said the final words dipped in his pain. It pierced her heart making her hand fly over it.
"But I am the only one who ever found his mate and was asked to bring her here. Others before me remained mateless. Most of them went crazy over time without their mates and died of heartbreaks and loneliness at an early age. The curse is lifted after their death until the next Alpha is born and the process repeats all over again."
Her heart was a mess hearing this gut-wrenching story and now she was all embroiled in this. More tears welled up in her eyes and fell on the ground near the plant, and it soaked in it.
"Don’t cry, please." His voice came out so ragged, so broken, so very desperate.
He hung his head low; there was so much he wished to say to her in terms of an apology, but what would he even say to her?
She sniffled, wiping away the tears from her face.
The fate was so cruel but why?
Could it be that he was being reborn again and again as some punishment?
Why was she chosen to be his mate and had all those memories from some past life?
She didn’t know that Arkiam had hardened the hearts of half the people who were to cross paths with her just as Aylin had softened off the other half.
"How is everything connected to this flower?" freёwebnoѵel.com
Cassandra questioned, her vision blurry from the tears.
"We don’t know but that blue halo I have. It’s consistent with all previous Alphas, too. That power comes from the flower. It glows and transfers it to the baby before dying," Siroos explained what he knew about the Blood Moon Flower.
"I see," she sniffled, her hands clutched the sides of her dress.
"Cassa, I can’t turn back time. Nor can I take back the hurt I caused you, the hurt I keep causing you. But I know if you leave, I won’t survive that heartbreak. Stay on your terms. I won’t force you into anything. My pack needs us. I might not be worth your love anymore, but they do."
Siroos slowly stood up and turned to face her but Cassandra instinctively took a step back. A gasp fell through her mouth, her eyes bulging from the shock of his words.
How could he speak about his death so casually? Or was he trying to manipulate her? But if what he had said was true and what she had heard about shifters losing half of themselves in case they were rejected or their mates died or left, this was a possibility.
The pain she had experienced from just his betrayal was enough of an indicator of how excruciating it could get, and she wondered what they had done to him.
She had seen the look in his eyes while he was with Kela, that was not the loving mate she had grown to admire over the months. Like he said, he wasn’t himself and that’s exactly the reason why he punished the Elders and Kela too.
The throes of stabbing aches in his heart intensified the more he watched her and waited for her decision.
Cassandra finally tipped her head up and faced him.
"You and me, and whatever fucked up relationship we share. It can’t get physical. The more we try to be together, the more fate pulls us apart, and people get hurt in the process. I can’t live with myself if you keep killing people just to protect me. I will stay but you will not come to my chamber or ever try to touch me again."
