Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 69: Ch : Uniting the World - Part 1
"Thief, I have brought our guests. Are you going to come out and greet them soon?"
Monkey King yelled as they entered a beautiful villa that had clearly seen better days and was in need of a repair job. This looked like a place a minister would have owned, but now it had been turned into Thief’s headquarters.
"Ugh, I think Thief is busy. Let me go and call him down. You all should make yourself at home in the meantime."
Monkey King told them all as he quickly ran out to check where Thief had disappeared to.
"So, should we take a seat or not?"
Lilianna asked once they had been left all alone. She shifted her feet a little, not sure what she was supposed to do now. So Andrew was the first one to move and sit on the sofa.
He gestured for the other two to join him, and Lilianna took the seat by his side.
Seraphina chose to remain standing, her vigilant eyes looking around for any sign of danger she could spot. But at the moment, it did not seem as if anyone was going to attack her.
It took no time for Monkey King to come back with Thief and Queen behind him. Thief had a soothing smile on his face, while Queen looked ready to chop their heads off for even saying a single thing.
Her obvious hostility did not go unnoticed, and Seraphina’s hand tightened into a fist as she got ready to take action.
"Let’s all calm down and have a civil talk. Queen, if you won’t be able to control your temper, then you should not be here in the first place."
Thief warned, and Queen flinched before she bowed her head.
"Of course. I apologize for the hostility. I will make sure to control myself from here on."
But even though she said that, her glare remained.
Cough
"Anyway, please ignore Queen. As our protector, she takes her job a little too seriously. We should get back to the main reason I called for you to come here. This is the reason. Please take a look at this and tell me what you think about it."
Andrew was handed a few papers to look at by Thief, and he made sure to read them thoroughly. Since there was not a lot, he was able to get through it all quickly.
"This is..."
"A special project to unite the rest of humanity against the system. The governments have already agreed to form an ultimate organization that would work toward the betterment of humanity. However, we need a leader who can unite the people under his power and influence. As much as I would like to fulfill that goal, I am well aware of my own shortcomings."
Thief admitted with a heavy face.
"But you are-"
"Not enough."
Queen opened her mouth to protest again, but Thief shot her down quickly and turned to look at Andrew and his companions for their opinion.
It was not a bad idea to unite all the humans and prioritize the benefit of human survival over individual survival.
And having more people know about the games and how to tackle them would benefit humanity in the long run. It would also make resource management much easier and more affordable.
But that was the ideal situation, and in reality, this might just become a place for infections to fester on human desires.
"It seems like a good idea on paper, but I am not sure if human nature will allow such a place to flourish."
"I know. But this can work. I am sure that this is the right step to take toward humanity’s future. And who knows? A miracle might be born if we have the right people to head this place."
Thief tried to reassure Andrew again and emphasized that this was a good project.
He was trying too hard to push Andrew into accepting this project, which likely meant that he was desperate for him to participate for some reason.
"Did you see something regarding this in your visions of the future?"
Andrew asked, and Thief froze for a second before he let out a smile.
"You are much more annoying than I remember. But since you are someone I need on my side, I will part with this information. This organization is the only way for humanity to move forward. In any other future, our survival is not assured." 𝗳𝐫𝚎𝗲𝚠𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝘃𝚎𝗹.𝗰𝗼𝗺
The proclamation was followed by silence, and Andrew gave Thief a searching glance.
There was not a single hint of doubt on Thief’s face. He believed each and every word he said at that moment.
Sigh
"I see. This project is humanity’s only hope? It makes sense why you are so desperate."
Andrew spoke, and Thief looked relieved.
"Then, that means you-"
"I will have a talk with my other comrades and give you an answer. I will let you know before the next game is over."
Andrew told Thief, and Queen took offense to that.
"What is there to even think about? Thief just told you that this is the only way-"
"Queen, that is enough. If Mark Dawson needs some time to think this over, then let’s give him some time. Making such a decision is not an easy thing to do."
Thief reminded Queen, and she calmed down with a frustrated sigh. Her eyes continued to glare at Andrew, pinning this all as his fault.
But Andrew ignored her and put the papers back in his inventory.
"I will await the good news from your side. You as well, Miss Lilianna. If Andrew won’t join us, I hope you would consider joining us in order to help a lot more people than you are able to help now."
Andrew nodded toward Thief before he left. He watched as Thief’s eyes landed on Lilianna, who looked uncomfortable.
She had no intention of helping more people than she was now, but her conscience made her feel guilty about it.
It showed so clearly on her face that even Seraphina had to say something.
"Don’t feel as if it is your fault. This world has turned into one where everyone needs to fight for their own survival. You do not owe anyone anything."
