Reborn as a Weak Earthling, I Became the Most Overpowered Mage Alive-Chapter 62: Ch : Familiar Faces in Rebellion- Part 2
The tension was high in the city, but no one bothered Andrew and the others about what had happened with the queen. Since they had been out of the city the whole day, they were not suspects of the queen’s assassination.
It allowed them to be able to sneak around much more easily when it was time, and they entered the pub where the meeting was to take place.
The first thing Andrew noticed was that there were more than a few players around. Most players seemed to have found their way to this rebellion, which made it both an opportunity as well as something to be careful of.
"Be careful here. Anyone can turn out to be a traitor here."
Andrew reminded his group before they headed toward the center where the guard who invited them was sitting.
The guard looked surprised and elated to see them.
"Ah, you all managed to make it here. Did you have any problems with the guards? It seems unlikely. Now that you are here, let me introduce you to someone who is the current backbone of this rebellion-Duke Neils."
The rebellion leader pointed to someone Andrew was very familiar with. Thief’s face looked back at him with a smile, and he waved.
A stunned silence followed that declaration before Clara was not able to hold her excitement and surprise.
"What do you mean, ’Duke Neils?’ That man is clearly...muffff-"
Andrew quickly put his hand to good use and stopped Clara before she could make any mistakes. He was just as surprised as she was at Thief’s identity, but unlike Clara, Andrew did not want to sabotage this situation.
Thief just smiled at what was happening, and he patted the seat beside him.
"Please sit here for now. I was hoping to talk to you about what was happening here anyway."
The look in Thief’s eyes told Andrew that he knew what he was doing, and all this was done deliberately.
Still, they had the same goal of ending this game for now, so Andrew took the olive branch he was being handed.
He sat down, and Seraphina followed him to sit on his other side. Lilianna looked hesitant, but she also squeezed herself between Andrew and Thief. Clara and Emperor kept standing, ready to take action at any second.
Thief just smiled at the open hostility in the air, but he did nothing to reassure their side that he meant them no harm.
Instead, he decided to open up and speak more about the current situation.
"I am sure you are surprised to see me sitting here as Duke Neils. But there is a reason I am here currently. The real Duke Neil, aka the backbone of this whole operation, is already dead. Since his absence can cause the rebellion to collapse, I decided to play this part for now."
Lilianna frowned at that explanation.
"You...just replaced a whole person and no one batted an eye at that? I somehow find it hard to believe."
Thief just chuckled at her response before he clarified the situation.
"Well, we are in a game. As long as the players remain the same, who cares who takes what identity. Anyway, I heard from Queen that you beat her to the relic search. That brings us closer to our goal of taking down the queen...I mean, the evil one."
Thief chuckled at his own joke, but no one found it funny.
Andrew just nodded at his words, understanding what Thief meant. The system must have allowed Thief to replace an NPC since it made the situation much more fun. But much like Seraphina, it would limit Thief and put his life on the line.
"How bold of you to put your life on the line by becoming an NPC. I can’t tell if it is foolishness or a calculated decision on your part."
Seraphina had caught on to what was happening as well, and her words made Thief chuckle.
"Well, there are more than a few capable people on my side, so I felt like this risk was worthy enough to take. Besides, I am not worried about this game. I am sure we will all get from it what we want...even you."
Thief’s words were ambiguous, but he did not show any surprise at seeing Seraphina. It meant that he had likely seen her in the future.
But unlike Emperor, he did not show hostility toward her, so it was hard to know exactly what he saw.
"Stop beating around the bush and tell us what you are planning."
Emperor got annoyed by the game everyone was playing and decided to interject himself. His loud voice caused people to shudder in fear and look at him.
But Thief did not look intimidated by him.
"I am getting to it. As you all know, the rebellion is our one chance to take down the queen. So we will attack her in the next two hours. My abilities tell me that it is the only window we will get for a long time."
There was no way to know whether Thief was lying or not. But Andrew knew one thing-desperation bred stupid decisions.
The more time people were forced to spend in this world, the more they would gravitate toward an easy solution.
If rebelling was too hard, then they would seek out the queen to join her side....
"Do we even have enough people? There will be players on the queen’s side already. Should we not talk to them and persuade them to come to our side?"
Lilianna asked, and Thief just chuckled.
"You are quite naive, young Miss. But I guess that’s what makes you charming..."
Lilianna and Clara both looked offended, but Thief continued.
"The attack will take place in two hours. You all are free to decide whether you want to participate or not. By the way, it was not something that I decided on a whim. It was always going to take place regardless of our will. We can choose to participate or ignore it."
Thief explained, and Andrew felt a small headache forming.
He understood Thief’s words and the hidden meaning behind it. This raid was not something the players had decided, but it was a system event. And if they ignored it, then they would lose a huge portion of their support against the queen.
At that point, the only thing left would be to gain the queen’s trust, which would be impossible to do.
"Tsk, so we have no choice in this matter after all. Just say that, you bastard."
Emperor cursed, also realizing the situation.
