Chapter 42 - The Fall of House Ascarion – The Villain’s Triumph
◇◇◇
[Ascarion Estate – Outer Gate]
The walls of House Ascarion trembled as the Valtara army approached, their crimson and black banners blazing with authority. At the forefront stood Leonhardt Valtara, his gaze cold, his presence overwhelming. By his side was Evelyn Astralis-Valtara—now his wife—her once-heroic purity now shrouded in dark elegance as she stood with the enemy.
Behind them stood Duke Aldrich Valtara, Duchess Selena Valtara, and Celestia Nightshade, each wearing a victorious smile.
"It's time," Leonhardt said coldly. "Crush the Ascarion estate."
"YES, MY LORD!!"
The siege began.
◇◇◇
[Inside the Manor]
"NOOO!!"
Rael Ascarion, the former hero, stumbled through the halls of his crumbling manor. His eyes were bloodshot, his breath ragged. The trauma from his last encounter with Leonhardt still plagued his mind—coupled with the unbearable fact that Evelyn... his first love... was now Leonhardt's wife.
"No... no...!! T-This can't be happening...!!" Rael gasped.
The doors burst open.
"MASTER RAEL!! THE VALTARA ARMY HAS BREACHED THE GATES!!" a servant screamed.
Rael's face paled. "N-No... this can't be happening..."
"W-We have to escape!!"
But Rael didn't care about escape. His mind had only one thought:
I need to take Evelyn back... I need to save her...
◇◇◇
[Evelyn's Old Room]
Rael stumbled toward Evelyn's old chamber. Desperation filled his steps.
"If I can just talk to her... convince her... she'll come back to me... I-I know it...
He reached the door. His hands trembled. And then—he pushed it open.
"Evelyn—!!"
But his world crumbled.
Evelyn stood there, but she was no longer his.
She wore a long, elegant black dress, signifying her status as Leonhardt's wife. A dark choker adorned her neck—engraved with the Valtara crest. Her expression was serene, but her eyes... were filled with deep affection for her husband.
Rael's breath froze. "E-Evelyn...?"
Evelyn turned slowly. When she saw Rael—her face twisted with... pity.
"Rael... what are you doing here?" she asked softly.
Rael's chest tightened. "E-Evelyn... I-I came to save you!! T-That monster—Leonhardt—he manipulated you!! H-He forced you to marry him, right?!"
Evelyn's eyes widened. Then... she smiled.
"...You still don't understand, do you, Rael?"
Rael froze. "W-What...?"
Evelyn took a deep breath. "...I wasn't forced."
Rael's pupils shrank. "W-What did you say...?"
Evelyn's voice turned softer. "I chose to marry Leonhardt."
Rael's world shattered. "N-No... you're lying!! Y-You're under his control—!!"
Evelyn shook her head. "No... I love him."
"...!!"
The words pierced Rael's heart like a thousand blades.
"I-I DON'T BELIEVE YOU!!" Rael screamed, grabbing Evelyn's wrist. "C-COME WITH ME!! I-I CAN STILL SAVE YOU—"
SLAP!
Evelyn slapped Rael across the face.
Rael froze. "...W-What...?"
Evelyn pulled her hand away, disgust written on her face. "Don't touch me like that again."
Rael trembled. "B-But... I-I'm your lover... w-we promised to be together..."
"No," Evelyn's voice turned cold. "I'm Leonhardt's wife now."
Tears streamed down Rael's face. "N-No... t-this can't be happening..."
Suddenly—
BOOM!!
The door burst open.
Leonhardt Valtara stepped inside, his crimson eyes filled with amusement. "Oh? Am I interrupting something?"
Rael froze in pure terror. "Y-You...!!"
Leonhardt's gaze instantly locked on Evelyn. "Darling, are you alright?"
Evelyn's expression melted with affection. "Yes, my love. I was just rejecting an unwanted guest."
"...!!"
Rael's heart snapped.
"Y-YOU BRAINWASHED HER!!" Rael roared, drawing his sword. "I-I'LL KILL YOU AND FREE HER—!!"
CLANG!!
Before Rael could even swing, Duke Aldrich appeared and effortlessly disarmed him—shattering his sword with a single strike.
"AAAGHH!!" Rael screamed as he collapsed.
Leonhardt smirked. "How pitiful."
Rael gasped for breath. "G-Give her back... p-please..."
Leonhardt chuckled. "Why would I do that?"
He turned toward Evelyn. "Darling, why don't you tell him who you belong to?"
Evelyn's face turned completely red—her heart pounding as she gazed at Leonhardt. Without hesitation, she walked toward him, leaned in—and kissed him passionately in front of Rael.
"MMPHH...!!" Evelyn's soft moans filled the room.
Rael's eyes shattered.
"N-No... no... NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
Leonhardt pulled away, smirking darkly. "See? She's mine."
"...!!"
Rael's mind finally collapsed. His body trembled as he stared at his former lover—now passionately kissing his mortal enemy. His stomach twisted. His heart shattered.
"N-No... t-this isn't real... it's not real..."
Leonhardt laughed darkly. "It's very real, Hero."
He then turned toward his father. "Burn the Ascarion estate to the ground."
Duke Aldrich grinned. "With pleasure."
◇◇
As flames engulfed the Ascarion estate—Rael was dragged to his knees before Leonhardt. His spirit utterly broken. His heart annihilated.

"L-Leonhardt..." Rael choked. "P-Please... j-just let Evelyn go..."
Leonhardt chuckled. "She's my wife now, fool. Why would she ever return to a pathetic man like you?"
Rael's soul finally shattered. Tears streamed down his face. His voice cracked.
"...P-Please... k-kill me..."
Leonhardt smirked. "No. I want you to live."
Rael's eyes widened. "W-What...?"
"I want you to live every single day, remembering that I took your woman, your honor, your pride, and your family name," Leonhardt's voice dripped with cruelty.
"And every time you close your eyes—you'll remember the sound of my wife moaning my name."
Rael's sanity—completely broke.
"NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!"
Leonhardt turned toward Evelyn, who was now clinging to his arm lovingly. "Let's go home, darling."
Evelyn smiled warmly. "Yes, my love~"
And as the Valtara family walked away—leaving the Ascarion estate in flames—Rael's devastated screams echoed in the night.
The Hero had lost everything.
