Reborn as a Tough Army Wife-Chapter 785 - 780: Repaying a Favor (Third Update)
"I’ll go..." said the grandaunt, slightly bowing her body.
She wasn’t stupid, and because she was puzzled as to why Mrs. Liu brought her to a stranger’s house, she’d been paying close attention to the conversation between Mrs. Liu and Fang Pingying.
From those few words and Mrs. Liu’s rather cautious attitude towards Fang Pingying, she basically understood why Mrs. Liu brought her here.
To be honest, though she had always been somewhat of a joke in the Liu family because of a disappointing son, and had been to borrow money more than a few times, being scolded by Mrs. Liu was not a once or twice thing. Perhaps she was used to it, enduring the shame as it came and went.
But now, being asked to kneel to a stranger, or doing so without even understanding why, felt humiliating to her. She was human too; she had her dignity and thought it would be best to leave the place when the opportunity arose.
But before she could finish speaking, Mrs. Liu sternly interjected, "She will stay."
Joking aside, Mrs. Liu brought her over for a reason; there’s no way she’d let her leave so easily.
Stopped by Mrs. Liu, Taotao dared not move, so she awkwardly smiled at Fang Pingying and sat back in her seat.
Fang Pingying glanced at Mrs. Liu and the grandaunt, nodded, and signaled the nanny to take Tingting upstairs.
Once Tingting went upstairs, Fang Pingying no longer beat around the bush and asked Mrs. Liu directly, "Aunt, let’s get straight to the point. What brings you here today?"
Mrs. Liu didn’t mince words either, getting straight to the point, "Miss Fang, I know there has been some unpleasantness between you and my family, Fengsheng, because of the supermarket business competition, but it’s clear who won now. It seems like you haven’t lost much, but my Liu Fengsheng is now troubled with issues. Could you help him for old times’ sake?"
Although Mrs. Liu appeared to be asking for help, her tone was more of an order, deliberately mentioning past feelings. An outsider might think that if Fang Pingying didn’t agree, she would be in the wrong.
Fang Pingying smiled slightly. It turned out she could misjudge people too. Why did she once think the Liu family was decent and well-mannered? Looking back, Liu Fengsheng’s character was likely heavily influenced by his mother.
Seeing Fang Pingying’s indifferent smile, Mrs. Liu increased her effort, "You and my Fengsheng used to get along well, practically like family here. I believe you haven’t forgotten those times?"
Mrs. Liu kept harping on past feelings, which annoyed Fang Pingying. Since she was so fixated on them, Fang Pingying followed her lead, "Aunt, you’re mistaken. The reason Liu and I are at this point is not just because of the supermarket competition. It’s because Liu refused to let me be. Had I lost this time, it wouldn’t just be about being troubled; it could be doomsday for me. I wonder if Aunt ever asked Liu if he remembered our past feelings and spared me back then?"
"This..." Mrs. Liu was not expecting Fang Pingying to be so forthright and was at a loss for words. After hesitating, she conceded awkwardly, "But right now, you’re not at a loss, yet our family is deeply affected by this. Without your help, the consequences are unimaginable."
"Aunt, honestly, when it comes to helping, I’m quite powerless. I’m just a simple woman who tries to earn some money to support my family. As for major help, it’s beyond my capability." Though she was unwilling to assist outright, a different approach might be possible.
Thus, Fang Pingying made her position clear.
"You..." It was clear that Mrs. Liu couldn’t grasp it.
Which was understandable; she wasn’t business-minded and couldn’t comprehend the underlying meaning in Fang Pingying’s words.
"If you’re here today only to discuss this issue, perhaps we should end it here. My stance is clear, I can’t help. Aunt, please, see yourself out," Fang Pingying concluded, beginning to escort them out, "As for Tingting, if Aunt feels comfortable, let her play here for a while, and I will arrange for a car to send her back in the afternoon." 𝐟𝐫𝕖𝗲𝘄𝚎𝗯𝕟𝐨𝕧𝐞𝚕.𝕔𝕠𝐦
Mrs. Liu felt she had exhausted all the gentle approaches, time to switch to the suggested tough ones as her husband guided her—that’s after soft, then hard.
About to voice the serious part, she adjusted her posture, wearing a half-smiling expression, and said to Fang Pingying, "Miss Fang, perhaps instead of addressing the current matter, we should talk about repaying kindness."
"Remember, when you needed help buying land, our Fang Family wholeheartedly supported you. I always thought Miss Fang was someone who values gratitude; shouldn’t you help our Fang Family through this tough time out of gratitude?"
"Heh, Aunt is indeed Mr. Liu’s biological mother; everything you do is about returns," Fang Pingying chuckled lightly. The Liu family truly was ordinary, using whatever means possible. Well, fine, let’s be candid, she addressed Mrs. Liu, smiling calmly, "Alright, since you brought it up, indeed it’s a debt of gratitude I owe to your Fang Family. Now, tell me, how do you suggest I repay this kindness?"
Mrs. Liu, seeing hope in Fang Pingying’s words, pulled herself together to say what Mr. Liu had advised, "Actually, Miss Fang, you know our Fengsheng lacks funding now. As long as funds are available, supermarket operations can resume, and the rest are minor issues."
Pausing slightly, worrying if Fang Pingying hadn’t understood, she continued to elaborate, "We’re requesting a financial injection into the supermarket. Of course, we don’t just expect you to lend money without basis, considering it’s quite a sum. Simply put, since you’re investing, you should become a shareholder, entitled to a share proportionate to your investment. Once everything settles, you’ll only need to wait monthly for dividends without any hassle from you."
"Actually, I’m aware Miss Fang came from humble rural beginnings and should understand the vast profits once supermarkets start yielding returns, especially before it’s mainstream. If it were me, I’d be thrilled to easily gain a share in a supermarket."
